  • Best Practices for Internationalizing a Flex Appliaction?

    - by rgould
I am looking into internationalizing a Flex application I am working on and I am curious if there are any best practices or recommendations for doing so. Googling for such information results in a handful of small articles and blog posts, each about doing it differently, and the advantages and disadvantages are not exactly clear. Edited to narrow scope: Need to support only two languages (en_CA and fr_CA) Need to be able to switch at runtime

  • Why I should use an N-Tier Approach When using an SqlDatasource is ALOT EASIER ?

    - by The_AlienCoder
When it comes to web development I have always tried to work SMART not HARD. So for along time My Aproach to interacting with databases in my AspNet projects has been this : 1) Create my stored procedures 2) Drag an SQLDatasource control on my aspx page 3) Bind a DataList Control to my SQLDatasource 4) Insert, Update & Delete by using my Datalist or programmatically using built in SQLDatasource methods e.g MySqlDataSource.InsertParameters["author"].DefaultValue = TextBox1.Text; MySqlDataSource.Insert(); Recently however I got a relatively easy web project. So I decided to employ a 3-tier Model...But I got exhausted halfway and just didnt seem worth it ! It seemed like I was working too HARD for a project that could have been easily accomplished by a couple of SqlDataSource Controls. So Why Is the N-Tier Model better than my Approach? Has it anything to do with performance? What are the advantages of the ObjectDataSource control over the SqlDataSource Control?

  • Why is IE7 rendering these differently?

    - by htm
I'm totally baffled as to why these 2 sites are rendering differently in IE7, even though the theme powering both is the same, they're both on WordPress 2.9.2... This one is okay: http://htm2wp.com/dev/svn This one has the sidebar appear at the bottom: svnsvadvisors.com/blog Meanwhile, they render the exact same in Chrome and Firefox. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I think I may just be too close to the problem to see it.

  • Is it possible to route heroku-rails-app to a subdirectory of my custom domain?

    - by ernd enson
I want to setup a rails app on heroku that is part of a website. The website which is hosted on a different server explains the usage of the app, shows a tour, plans, contains a blog on related stuff and so on. I want to route to my_domain/app and the app should respond to that url. The custom_domain add-on doesnt allow to enter directories. How can I configure that or how would you realize that scenario?

  • auto_inline - inadequate documentation

    - by Mick
I want to disable inlining for a particular function. What the compiler does for everything else should be as specified in the project properties. I found a page on a forum which suggested the following: #pragma auto_inline(off) void func() { } #pragma auto_inline() The author suggested that calling auto_inline() with no arguments will set the compiler to revert to doing whatever the default action was before the call to auto_inline(off). Can anyone confirm that this works for visual studio 2008? I ask because the VS2008 documentation makes no mention at all of what happens if you call this function with no arguments.

I have an Entry model which can belong to a Category.I am providing a CategoryChoicesForm sothat the user can choose from various Categorys (from a dropdown list)when an Entry is created or edited. I am having trouble with the CategoryChoicesForm while editing the Entry. It throws a TypeError.. If somebody can make out what is happening..please advise me how to correct this. int() argument must be a string or a number, not 'QueryDict' /home/Django-1.4/django/db/models/fields/__init__.py in get_prep_value, line 537 ...views.py in edit_entry category_choices_form = CategoryChoicesForm(form_data) ... ...forms.py in __init__ self.fields['categoryoption'].queryset = Category.objects.filter(creator=self.creator) Here is the form class CategoryChoicesForm(forms.Form): categoryoption = forms.ModelChoiceField( queryset = Category.objects.none(), required=False, label='Category') def __init__(self, categorycreator,*args, **kwargs): super(CategoryChoicesForm, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs) self.creator=categorycreator self.fields['categoryoption'].queryset = Category.objects.filter(creator=self.creator) The edit_entry view is as follows @login_required @transaction.commit_on_success def edit_entry(request,id,template_name,page_title): form_data = get_form_data(request) entry = get_object_or_404(Entry,pk=id,author=request.user) ... category_choices_form = CategoryChoicesForm(form_data) ...

  • Anyone experienced with Adobe ExtendScript?

    - by lenrussell
There's a dearth of info in the supporting PDFs and on the web. I happened to come across a post in a blog that mentioned that $.write() or $.writeln() will write a string to the javascript console. Quite useful. Does anyone know if this $ object has any additional properties or methods?

  • Does the .NET Framework 4.0 intaller installs .NET 3.5 as well?

    - by John Doe
.NET 4.0 is meant to run side-by-side with 3.5 and won't run 3.5 apps, which is making me worried about having to instruct my users to download .NET 3.5 instead of just "the latest version". I've read in a blog that the 4.0 installer will install 3.5 as well if it's not already installed but I can't test it right now, did anyone try this or have an answer from a trusted source?

  • Assembla is no longer free, is there a good alternative?!

    - by pabloide86
http://blog.assembla.com/assemblablog/tabid/12618/bid/6986/Release-2-0-restricting-free-plans-giving-back-with-features-and-pric I'm very disappointed about this... I use Assembla for my personal projects(commercial) and now I have to move everything to another place! There are some questions about different free hosting... I extracted some of the sites that offers free hosting for projects: http://www.svnhostingcomparison.com/ http://www.codespaces.com/ If you know about others like assembla please post it! Cheers from Argentina!
