  • Push Notifications in Android Platform

    - by Vinod
I am looking to write an app which received pushed alerts from a server. I found a couple of methods to do this. 1) SMS - Intercept the incoming SMS and initiate a pull from the server 2) Poll the server periodically Each has its own limitations. SMS- no guarantee on arrival time. Poll may drain the battery. Do you have a better suggestion please?. Thanks much.

  • Best Practice for Context Processors vs. Template Tags?

    - by mawimawi
In which cases is it better to create template tags (and load them into the template), than creating a context processor (which fills the request automatically)? e.g. I have a dynamic menu that has to be included into all templates, so I'm putting it into my base.html. What is the preferred usage: context processor or custom template tag? And why?

  • TSQL - MSSQL 2008 add a column and update it in same stored procedure

    - by TortTupper
if I have a stored procedure say create procure w AS ALTER TABLE t ADD x char(1) UPDATE t set x =1 Even when it lets me create that stored procedure (if I create it when x exists), when it runs, there is an error on the UPDATE statement because column x doesn't exist. What's the conventional way to deal with this, it must come up all the time? I can work around it by putting the UPDATE inside EXEC, is there another/better way? Thanks

  • Ideal Folder Structure of MVC framework

    - by Sarfraz
Hello guys, I would like to ask what is the ideal folder structure for a MVC framework that should be able to support multiple installations. For example, I install xyz framework and i run two or more sites based on this single installation of xyz framework rather than installing the framework for each site. This is probably done in Codeigniter too but i don't know much about CodeIgniter, so i need your suggestions. I know some of you might even have better idea than what is done by CodeIgniter, so please share.

  • Can I redistribute the Microsoft T4 Engine with my product?

    - by Rammesses
I'm generating code dynamically, currently using String.Format and embedding placeholders - but reformatting the C# code for use as a template is a pain, and I think using a T4 template would be better. However, the code generation will be happening on a running system, so I need to know that I can safely and legally redistribute the Microsoft T4 Engine with my product. Anyone else done this? Or know the (legal) answer?

  • Easy way to build an in-app demo like they do in Convertbot?

    - by mystify
I want to make a little in-app demo like Tapbots does in Convertbot. Maybe there is a better solution than mine? make everything programmatically controlable write a huge class with hundreds of performSelector:withObject:afterDelay: calls to control the whole app for the demo The demo actually only does two things: Simulate touches on controls (i.e. programmatically pressing buttons) Show text message bubbles when appropriate to explain what is going on How would you do it?

I have an app that displays a large amount of information. For paging I'd like to use the "Home Screen" style scrolling/paging instead of the one used in pdf documents (smooth scrolling). How what should I use? also can that UI support more than 20 pages? or is there a better solution?

  • empty() doesn't work with codeigniter input class

    - by BabyAzerty
This is really weird. Whenever I call something like if(empty($this->input->post("foo")){//blabla} The whole PHP is "down" and I get a blank page from the website (even when I don't pass through this empty(input) line). I know this is not the right method and it is stupid, I change the code to if(!$this->input->post("foo")){//blabla} Better I guess ? Seriously, how come the empty(input) breaks down the entire PHP page ? (I can't get any echo "something").
