  • How to route to a secondary interface on the same physical ethernet?

    - by sjose3612611
INTERNET<->(wan)BRIDGED_DEVICE(lan)<->ETH_ROUTER<->LAN Problem: Need to access web server on BRIDGED_DEVICE's LAN from INTERNET via ROUTER (BRIDGED_DEVICE's web server cannot be accessed form INTERNET since it has no Public management IP). Cannot configure bridged device. It has a static IP on its LAN to which its web server binds. Attempt: Create a secondary/alias WAN Interface on ETH_ROUTER (e.g Primary: eth0.1 (for internet access) and Secondary: eth0.2 (for accessing web server on BRIDGED_DEVICE), (No VLANs). eth0.1 has a public IP; eth0.2 has a static private IP in the BRIDGED_DEVICE's subnet (e.g 10.0.X.Y). Iptables on ETH_ROUTER: Added a port forward (DNAT) from eth0.1 to eth0.2: iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -i eth0.1 -p tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to-destination 10.0.X.Y iptables -t nat -I POSTROUTING -o eth0.2 -s 10.0.X.0/24 -j MASQUERADE Stateful firewall w/ overall drop policy on FORWARD chain, hence: iptables -I FORWARD -i eth0.1 -d 10.0.X.Y -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT Can ping from ETH_ROUTER to BRIDGED_DEVICE but unable to reach the web server from Internet. I see packet cont increasing for the DNAT rule but not sure where it disappears in the ETH_ROUTER after that. ETH_ROUTER is the only device that can be configured to achieve this. If familiar with this scenario, please suggest what I may be missing or doing wrong here or suggest techniques to debug?

  • Motherboard/PSU crippling USB and Sata

    - by celebdor
I very recently bought a new desktop computer. The motherboard is: Z77MX-D3H and the power supply is ocz zs series 550w. The issue I have is that once I boot to the operating system (I have tried with fedora and Ubuntu with kernels 2.6.38 - 3.4.0), my hard drive (2.5" Magnetic) occasionally makes a power switch noise and it resets. Needless to say, when this drive is the OS drive, the OS crashes. I also have a SSD that works fine with the same OS configurations, but if I have the magnetic hard drive attached as second drive, it works erratically and the reconnects result in corrupted data. I also noticed that whenever I plug an external hard drive USB2.0 or USB3.0 to the computer the issue with the reconnects is even worse: [ 52.198441] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Spinning up disk... Also the issue of the usb reconnects is less frequent if the hard drive is plugged before I switch on the computer. Does anybody have some advice as to what I could do? Which is the faulty part/s that I should replace? As for me, I really don't know if to point my finger to the PSU or the Motherboard (I have updated to the latest firmware and checked the BIOS settings several times). EDIT: The reconnects are happening both in the Sata connected drives and the USBX connected drives.

After running a bash fork bomb which made my webserver down, I think I should be more careful even not under root.I thought it would be totally fine while I'm not under root.So I ignored the warning and ran the bash fork bomb which is :() { :|:& }; : .(Please don't run it if u don't understand this code cuz it will make you system down). And I think I need a list of common ways those could cause a sever shutting down unexpectly even not under root. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Regards `

  • Excluding child processes from ps

    - by stefpet
    Background: To reload app configuration I need to kill -HUP the parent processes' PIDs. To find PIDs I currently use ps auxf | grep gunicorn with the following example output: $ ps auxf | grep gunicorn stpe 4222 0.0 0.2 64524 11668 pts/2 S+ 11:01 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_api:app -c app_api.ini.py stpe 4225 0.0 0.4 76920 16332 pts/2 S+ 11:01 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_api:app -c app_api.ini.py stpe 4226 0.0 0.4 76932 16340 pts/2 S+ 11:01 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_api:app -c app_api.ini.py stpe 4227 0.0 0.4 76940 16344 pts/2 S+ 11:01 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_api:app -c app_api.ini.py stpe 4228 0.0 0.4 76948 16344 pts/2 S+ 11:01 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_api:app -c app_api.ini.py stpe 4229 0.0 0.4 76960 16356 pts/2 S+ 11:01 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_api:app -c app_api.ini.py stpe 4230 0.0 0.4 76972 16368 pts/2 S+ 11:01 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_api:app -c app_api.ini.py stpe 4231 0.0 0.4 78856 18644 pts/2 S+ 11:01 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_api:app -c app_api.ini.py stpe 4232 0.0 0.4 76992 16376 pts/2 S+ 11:01 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_api:app -c app_api.ini.py stpe 5685 0.0 0.0 22076 908 pts/1 S+ 11:50 0:00 | \_ grep --color=auto gunicorn stpe 5012 0.0 0.2 64512 11656 pts/3 S+ 11:22 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_game_api:app -c app_game_api.ini.py stpe 5021 0.0 0.4 77656 17156 pts/3 S+ 11:22 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_game_api:app -c app_game_api.ini.py stpe 5022 0.0 0.4 77664 17156 pts/3 S+ 11:22 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_game_api:app -c app_game_api.ini.py stpe 5023 0.0 0.4 77672 17164 pts/3 S+ 11:22 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_game_api:app -c app_game_api.ini.py stpe 5024 0.0 0.4 77684 17196 pts/3 S+ 11:22 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_game_api:app -c app_game_api.ini.py stpe 5025 0.0 0.4 77692 17200 pts/3 S+ 11:22 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_game_api:app -c app_game_api.ini.py stpe 5026 0.0 0.4 77700 17208 pts/3 S+ 11:22 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_game_api:app -c app_game_api.ini.py stpe 5027 0.0 0.4 77712 17220 pts/3 S+ 11:22 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_game_api:app -c app_game_api.ini.py stpe 5028 0.0 0.4 77720 17220 pts/3 S+ 11:22 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_game_api:app -c app_game_api.ini.py Based on the above I see that it is 4222 and 5012 I need to HUP. Question: How can I exclude the child processes and only get the parent process (please note however that the processes I want do also have a parent (e.g. bash) that I'm uninterested with)? Using a regexp with grep on how much indentation there is in the ascii tree feels dirty. Is there a better way? Example: The desired output would be something like this. stpe 4222 0.0 0.2 64524 11668 pts/2 S+ 11:01 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_api:app -c app_api.ini.py stpe 5012 0.0 0.2 64512 11656 pts/3 S+ 11:22 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/bin/gunicorn app_game_api:app -c app_game_api.ini.py This would be easily parseable to be able to automatically find the PIDs in a script that does the HUPing which is the goal.

  • Creating a tar file with checksums included

    - by wazoox
Here's my problem : I need to archive to tar files a lot ( up to 60 TB) of big files (usually 30 to 40 GB each). I would like to make checksums ( md5, sha1, whatever) of these files before archiving; however not reading every file twice (once for checksumming, twice for tar'ing) is more or less a necessity to achieve a very high archiving performance (LTO-4 wants 120 MB/s sustained, and the backup window is limited). So I'd need some way to read a file, feeding a checksumming tool on one side, and building a tar to tape on the other side, something along : tar cf - files | tee tarfile.tar | md5sum - Except that I don't want the checksum of the whole archive (this sample shell code does just this) but a checksum for each individual file in the archive. I've studied GNU tar, Pax, Star options. I've looked at the source from Archive::Tar. I see no obvious way to achieve this. It looks like I'll have to hand-build something in C or similar to achieve what I need. Perl/Python/etc simply won't cut it performance-wise, and the various tar programs miss the necessary "plugin architecture". Does anyone know of any existing solution to this before I start code-churning ?

  • probems using ssh from cron

I am attempting to automate a script that executes commands on remote machines via ssh. I have public key authentication setup between the machines using ssh-agent. The script runs fine when executed from the command prompt. I suspect my problem is that cron isn't starting the ssh-agent due to it's minimalist environment. Here is the output when I add the -v flag to ssh: debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,gssapi-with-mic,password debug1: Next authentication method: gssapi-with-mic debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,gssapi-with-mic,password debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,gssapi-with-mic,password debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Offering public key: /home/<user>/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Server accepts key: pkalg ssh-rsa blen 149 debug1: PEM_read_PrivateKey failed debug1: read PEM private key done: type <unknown> debug1: Trying private key: /home/<user>/.ssh/id_dsa debug1: Next authentication method: password debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,gssapi-with-mic,password Permission denied, please try again. debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,gssapi-with-mic,password Permission denied, please try again. debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,gssapi-with-mic,password debug1: No more authentication methods to try. • lighttpd: weird behavior on multiple rewrite rule matches

    - by netmikey
I have a 20-rewrite.conf for my php application looking like this: $HTTP["host"] =~ "www.mydomain.com" { url.rewrite-once += ( "^/(img|css)/.*" => "$0", ".*" => "/my_app.php" ) } I want to be able to put the webserver in kind of a "maintenance" mode while I update my application from scm. To do this, my idea was to enable an additional rewrite configuration file before this one. The 16-rewrite-maintenance.conf file looks like this: url.rewrite-once += ( "^/(img|css)/.*" => "$0", ".*" => "/maintenance_app.php" ) Now, on the maintenance page, I have a logo that doesn't get loaded. I get a 404 error. Shouldn't it stop after the first match with rewrite-once?

  • How To Perform Distributed Website Monitoring?

    - by cballou
I would like to know how sites like the following perform distributed website monitoring (from multiple checkpoints/countries). pingdom.com, site24x7.com, uptrends.com, siteuptime.com, etc, etc. To be exact, what process would occur in checking if a given domain name went down? If the server finds that the site is down, what is the next step? Would it make a REST API request to a separate server to run the same test and report the results? I have a few theories, including: utilizing host(s) from different countries utilizing proxies from different countries I'm looking for the most proper or correct way to handle this, which can include the usage of servers from multiple countries/hosts.

  • Debian tuning for increasing read/write buffer.

    - by Claudiu
Is there a way to modify Debian settings so the memory could be used more for disk read/write caching ? I am already using RAID 0 but thats not enough for multiple users, and the disk is almost struggled. Torrents use the disk very much and rTorrent doesn't have cache settings.

  • Finding ALL currently used IP addresses of Website

    - by Patrick R
What steps would you take to discover all (or close to all) IP addresses that are currently used by a website? How would you be as exhaustive as possible without calling a website admin and asking for the list of IP addresses? ;) nslookup works but will vary based on dns server queried. whois is another good tool. Dig, not bad. Let's use Facebook for example. I'm blocking that site for the majority our our company's users, but some are approved for "research". I can not easily use OpenDNS because we all appear to come from the same request IP address. I could change that but don't want to add more vlans than I already have. I also could use block something like regex facebook1 "facebook\.com" (I'm running a cisco firewall) but that's pretty easy to sidestep. All that being said, I'm asking about specifically about finding ip addresses for a domain and not for other methods that I can block a domain name.

  • Ubuntu 9.10 x86_32 with PAE causes graphics issues, mainly slowness

    - by widgisoft
I've tried the 64bit version and found I was constantly hitting a brick wall trying to get 32bit stuff to run; I'd previously used PAE on 9.04 without any issues so figured I'd give it a shot. However, on 9.10 it seems PAE or the process of enabling PAE breaks the nvidia drivers/module somewhat as performance is terrible; I can't even enable desktop effects and there's lots of artifacting on random controls. Disabling the pae image and rebooting fixes the issue however I'm then stuck with "only" 2.7Gb of ram and unable to use the full 8gb that's installed. Is there somthing special I need to do when using pae and nVidia drivers or should I be using 64bit and just figure out how to force run 32bit packages? :-p
