  • problem in decreasing page's queries

    - by Mac Taylor
    hey guys i have a tag table in my php/mysql project that looks like this Table name : bt_tags Table fileds : tid,tag and for every story rows there is a filed named : tags Table name: stories table filed : tags that saved in this field as ids 1 5 6 space between them now problem : when using while loop to fetch all fields in story table , the page uses 1 query to show every stories' detail but for showing tag's names , i should query another table to find names , we have ids stored in story table now i used for loop between while loop to show tag names but im sure there is a better way to decrease page queries how can i improve this script and show tag's names without using *for loop ?* $result = $db->sql_query("SELECT * FROM ".STORY_TABLE." "); while ($row = $db->sql_fetchrow($result)) { //fetching other $vars ---- $tags_id = explode(" ",$row['tags']); $c = count($tags_id); for($i=1;$i<$c-1;$i++){ list($tag_name,$slug) = $db->sql_fetchrow($db->sql_query( 'SELECT `tag`,`slug` FROM `bt_tags` WHERE `tid` = "'.tags_id[$i].'" LIMIT 1' )); $sow_tags = '$tag_name,'; }

  • Radius of multiple latitude/longitude points

    - by zekial
I have a program that takes as input an array of lat/long points. I need to perform a check on that array to ensure that all of the points are within a certain radius. So, for example, the maximum radius I will allow is 100 miles. Given an array of lat/long (coming from a MySQL database, could be 10 points could be 10000) I need to figure out if they will all fit in a circle with radius of 100 miles. Kinda stumped on how to approach this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Optimum php.ini and my.cnf settings for a small Drupal 7 site on a virtual server

    - by the other dude
I looking for advice on how to set up the default configuration of php.ini and my.cnf for a small site (100 pages) with very little traffic (300 visitors per day). All pages have a bit of text, some images, no video, no audio, no flash/silverlight, very little javascript and jquery. For tracking I'm using GA and Piwik. The main site database is around 50MB. The site is hosted on a virtual server with 20GB RAM and 6 vCPUs so there's hopefully a lot of muscle to make it run very fast. I don't know much about tweaking php and mysql settings and would appreciate it if your answers can be as detailed as possible. Thanks

  • PHP PDO Username Availability Checker

    - by John Bernal
I'm building a registration page that uses JQuery's validator plugin to validate the form. For the username, i used the remote method. So here's my jquery+html code: fiddle And here's Available.php: <?php $usr = $_POST["username"]; $link = new PDO('mysql:***;dbname=***;charset=UTF-8','***','***'); $usr_check = $link->prepare("SELECT * FROM Conference WHERE Username = :usr"); $link->bindParam(':usr', $usr); $usr_check->execute(); if($usr_check->rowCount()>0) echo "false"; else echo "true"; ?> So I have a test account in my database with the username: user. When I tried to submit my form with the same username, it didn't display the error saying "username taken" which means the php isn't correct. Any ideas where I went wrong? Thanks

  • Adding a Third Table to a Two-Table Join Query

    - by John
    Hello, The query below works just fine. It pulls fields from two MySQL tables, "comment" and "login". It does this for rows where "username" in the table "login" equals the variable "$profile." It also pulls fields for rows where "loginid" in the table "comment" equals the "loginid" that is also being pulled from "login." I would like to pull data from a third table called "submission," which has the following fields: submissionid loginid title url displayurl datesubmitted I would like to pull fields from rows in "submission" where "loginid" equals the "loginid" that is already being pulled from the other two tables, "login" and "comment." How can I do this? Thanks in advance, John Query: $sqlStrc = "SELECT l.username, l.loginid, c.loginid, c.commentid, c.submissionid, c.comment, c.datecommented FROM comment AS c INNER JOIN login AS l ON c.loginid = l.loginid WHERE l.username = '$profile' ORDER BY c.datecommented DESC LIMIT 10";

  • Virtual directories as DB queries

I have a site, e.g. site.com I would like users to be able to access it in their locale at site.com/somecity This is similar to craigslist, but they do it with subdomains e.g. sfbay.craigslist.org Using Apache HTTP server. MySql for DB. If you can provide a brief explanation and perhaps links to more thorough discussions, I would be quite interested in learning. I'm developing a web-app and wonder if I should focus some time to read up on Apache, or should I focus more of my time on server-side programming. Thanks!

  • how to debug a query that has valid syntax, executes, but returns no results?

    - by Ty W
So I'm writing a fairly involved query with a half dozen joins, a dependent subquery for [greatest-n-per-group] purposes, grouping, etc. It is syntactically valid, but I've clearly made at least one mistake because it returns nothing. In the past I've debugged valid queries that return nothing by removing joins, executing subqueries on their own, removing WHERE conditions, and removing grouping to see what I would get but so far this one has me stumped. Are there better tools or techniques to use for this sort of thing? This particular query is for MySQL if it matters for any platform-specific tools.

  • How to handle dynamic site localizations?

    - by James Simpson
I've got a website that is currently all in english. It is an online game, so it has a bunch of different pages with static text, as well as a lot of content in a database. I am trying to expand more globally and am gearing up to release some localizations of the site. However, I'm not sure about the best way to go about setting this up so that it'll be the easiest for me to manage and the easiest for users to use as well. Should I be storing the translated texts in a database, or should this be done in a completely different way? If it matters at all, the site is written in PHP and uses MySQL.

  • Can't store Data URI to database without stripping + characters

    - by citizencane
I am trying to grab a reference to images with src's in URI scheme. An example would be the images on google.com/news. if I alert(escape(saveObj.image)); I get something like below: data%3Aimage/jpeg%3Bbase64%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 I pass that from the js file and am using django to get that into a mysql table of type utf8_unicode_ci using modelform.save, but when i examine what's in the database, I see: data:image/jpeg;base64,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 nXF/pZFKuffViGPW5ximQUEz1cNdPNKms6g8TlWBufDcHyxsdLUmqoYqhiWZ1BYtsSe The key difference is that in my database all of the '+' characters from the original have been stripped and replaced with spaces. • Sum up values in SQL once all values are available

    - by James Brown
    I have events flowing into a MySQL database and I need to group and sum the events to transactions and store away into another table. The data looks like: +----+---------+------+-------+ | id | transid | code | value | +----+---------+------+-------+ | 1 | 1 | b | 12 | | 2 | 1 | i | 23 | | 3 | 2 | b | 34 | | 4 | 1 | e | 45 | | 5 | 3 | b | 56 | | 6 | 2 | i | 67 | | 7 | 2 | e | 78 | | 8 | 3 | i | 89 | | 9 | 3 | i | 90 | +----+---------+------+-------+ The events arrive in batches and I would like to create the transaction by summing up the values for each transid, like: select transid, sum(value) from eventtable group by transid; but only after all the events for that transid have arrived. That is determined by the event with the code e (b for the beginning, e for the end and i for varying amount of intermediates). Being a novice in SQL, how could I implement the requirement for the existance of the end code before the summing?

  • output all data from db to a php page

    - by Sarit
Hi, I'm a real beginner with PHP & mysql. Just for studying and for a simple example at school I would like to work this simple query and possibly output all the rows (or maybe even one) to a very basic output on a php page: <?php $user= "root"; $host="localhost"; $password=""; $database = "PetCatalog"; $cxn = mysqli_connect($host,$user,$password,$database) or die ("couldn’t connect to server"); $query = "SELECT * FROM Pet"; $result = mysql_query($cxn,$query) or die ("Couldn’t execute query."); $row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($result); echo "$result"; ?> this is the error message i've been getting: Warning: mysql_query() expects parameter 1 to be string, object given in C:\xampplite\htdocs\myblog\query.php on line 18 Couldn’t execute query. What should I do? Thanks!

  • PHP Security checklist (injection, sessions etc)

    - by NoviceCoding
So what kind of things should a person using PHP and MySql be focused on to maximize security. Things I have done: -mysql_real_escape_string all inputs -validate all inputs after escaping em -Placed random alpha numerics before my table names -50character salt + Ripemd passwords Heres where I think I am slacking: -I know know nothing about sessions and securing them. How unsafe/safe is it if all you are doing is: session_start(); $_SESSION['login']= $login; and checking it with: session_start(); if(isset($_SESSION['login'])){ -I heard something about other forms of injection like cross site injection and what not... -And probably many other things I dont know about. Is there a "checklist"/Quicktut on making php secure? I dont even know what I should be worried about.I kinda regret now not building off cakephp since I am not a pro.

  • How do detect that transaction has already been started?

    - by xelurg
I am using Zend_Db to insert some data inside a transaction. My function starts a transaction and then calls another method that also attempts to start a transaction and of course fails(I am using MySQL5). So, the question is - how do I detect that transaction has already been started? Here is a sample bit of code: try { Zend_Registry::get('database')->beginTransaction(); $totals = self::calculateTotals($Cart); $PaymentInstrument = new PaymentInstrument; $PaymentInstrument->create(); $PaymentInstrument->validate(); $PaymentInstrument->save(); Zend_Registry::get('database')->commit(); return true; } catch(Zend_Exception $e) { Bootstrap::$Log->err($e->getMessage()); Zend_Registry::get('database')->rollBack(); return false; } Inside PaymentInstrument::create there is another beginTransaction statement that produces the exception that says that transaction has already been started.

  • web page db query optimisation

    - by morpheous
I am putting together a web page which is quite 'expensive' in terms of Db hits. I dont want to start optimizing at this stage - though with me trying to hit a deadline, I may end up not optimising at all. Currently the page requires 18 (thats right eighteen) hits to the db. I am already using joins, and some of the queries are UNIONed to minimize the trips to the db. My local dev machine can handle this (page is not slow) however, I feel if I release this into the wild, the number of queries will quickly overwhelm my database (mySQL). I could always use memcache or something similar, but I would much rather continue with my other dev work that needs to be completed before the deadline - at least retrieving the page work, its simply a matter of optimization. My question therefore is - is 18 db queries for a single page retrieval completely outrageous - (i.e. I should put everything on hold and optimize the hell of the retrieval logic), or shall I continue as normal, meet the deadline and release on schedule and see what happens?

  • Hyperlinks within a table - '<a href="">'.$row['username'].'</a>'

    - by Taimur
Hi, I have made a leaderboard table on my site, which returns the users in the MySQL database with the highest scores (score is a separate field). The fields in the leaderboard table are 'rank' 'username' and 'score'. I would like to link each username in the table to it's own profile page. The profile pages are in the format /profile.php?user=$username. How would I go about adding an <a href> within the table (which is echoed in php): echo '<tr><td>' .$a. '</td><td><a href="profile.php?user=' .$row['username']. '">' .$row['username']. '</a></td><td>'.$row['count'].'</td></tr>'; I've tried the above, but it doesn't seem to work. It shows the usernames, but they don't have any hyperlinks. Thanks

  • PDO Prepare statement not processing parameters

    - by Danten
I've exhausted all efforts at what appears to be a trivial problem, but gotten nowhere. There is a simple Prepare statement: $qry = $core->db->prepare("SELECT * FROM users WHERE email = '?'"); $qry->execute(array('[email protected]')); However, no rows are returned. Running the query with the parameters hardcoded into the query results in a successful selection of one row. I've tryed many different methods of doing the prepare, but even it this most simple form it isn't working. The PDO object is stored in a singleton called Core. PDO is using the mysql driver.

  • How to analyse Wikipedia article's data base with R?

    - by Tal Galili
Hi all, This is a "big" question, that I don't know how to start, so I hope some of you can give me a direction. And if this is not a "good" question, I will close the thread with an apology. I wish to go through the database of Wikipedia (let's say the English one), and do statistics. For example, I am interested in how many active editors (which should be defined) Wikipedia had at each point of time (let's say in the last 2 years). I don't know how to build such a database, how to access it, how to know which types of data it has and so on. So my questions are: What tools do I need for this (besides basic R) ? MySQL on my computer? RODBC database connection? How do you start planning for such a project?

  • SQL validation!

    - by Filip
I am pretty new in SQL so this may be a stupid question... I have a form in PHP which fills in few fields in my SQL table. I have this code: $sql="INSERT INTO $tbl_name (app_name, app_path, short_desc, full_desc) VALUES ('$_POST[app_name]', '$_POST[app_path]', '$_POST[short_desc]', '$_POST[full_desc]')"; But even app_name and app_path are NOT NULL columns, the query can be executed if there is no text in these fields in the form. So, my question is: How to stop the execution of the query if there is no text in the NOT NULL fields ?

  • Using strtotime for dates before 1970

    - by ctroy
I have a text column in mysql and it stores a date value in the format yyyy-mm-dd. Now, in my php page, I use this code to parse into a date value. date("F j, Y", strtotime($row['value'])); Now, I just read that strtotime() parses values only after January 1, 1970. I have lot of date values before that date. Is there a work around? I don't want to change my database structure.

  • Does having a longer string in a SQL Like expression allow hinder or help query executing speed?

    - by Allain Lalonde
I have a db query that'll cause a full table scan using a like clause and came upon a question I was curious about... Which of the following should run faster in Mysql or would they both run at the same speed? Benchmarking might answer it in my case, but I'd like to know the why of the answer. The column being filtered contains a couple thousand characters if that's important. SELECT * FROM users WHERE data LIKE '%=12345%' or SELECT * FROM users WHERE data LIKE '%proileId=12345%' I can come up for reasons why each of these might out perform the other, but I'm curious to know the logic.

  • Need Insight - What is the best practice for syncing up a production database that will be used on a

    - by james
I have a site set up using CakePHP and MySQL and I want to work on a test database without disrupting my live site in case something goes wrong. I have another busy site, but my test site runs off the live database which can be occasionally nerve wracking. What do I do if I change a table name in the test db and I want it changed in the live database? Or if I remove a record from the test database. Is there a way to diff the changes? How do I even merge those changes? How does this interfere with live user edits and things of that nature? Hopefully some of you working devs can share some insight!
