  • division with wrong result

    - by PeterK
    Hi, I am trying to divide integers but get 0 as result. I just do not understand what i am doing wrong. I am using only int's in this example but get the same result testing with float or double. The code i use is: int wrongAnswers = askedQuestions - playerResult; int percentCorrect = (playerResult / askedQuestions) * 100; int percentWrong = (wrongAnswers / askedQuestions) * 100; NSLog(@"askedQuestions: %i", askedQuestions); NSLog(@"playerResult: %i", playerResult); NSLog(@"wrongAnswers: %i", wrongAnswers); NSLog(@"percentCorrect: %i", percentCorrect); NSLog(@"percentWrong: %i", percentWrong); NSLog(@"calc: %i", (wrongAnswers + playerResult)); NSLog(@"wrong answers %: %i %%", ((wrongAnswers / askedQuestions) * 100)); The result i get is: 2011-01-09 16:45:53.411 XX[8296:207] askedQuestions: 5 2011-01-09 16:45:53.412 XX[8296:207] playerResult: 2 2011-01-09 16:45:53.412 XX[8296:207] wrongAnswers: 3 2011-01-09 16:45:53.413 XX[8296:207] percentCorrect: 0 % 2011-01-09 16:45:53.414 XX[8296:207] percentWrong: 0 % 2011-01-09 16:45:53.414 XX[8296:207] calc: 5 2011-01-09 16:45:53.415 XX[8296:207] wrong answers : 0 % I would very much appreciate help :-)

  • How do I stack images to simulate depth using Core Animation?

    - by Jeffrey Berthiaume
I have a series of UIImages with which I need to simulate depth. I can't use scaling because I need to be able to rotate the parent view, and the images should look like they're stacked visibly in front of each other, not on the same plane. I made a new ViewController-based project and put this in the viewDidLoad (as well as attached three 120x120 pixel images named 1.png, 2.png, and 3.png): - (void)viewDidLoad { // display image 3 UIImageView *three = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"3.png"]]; three.center = CGPointMake(160 + 60, 240 - 60); [self.view addSubview:three]; // rotate image 3 around the z axis // THIS IS INCORRECT CATransform3D theTransform = three.layer.transform; theTransform.m34 = 1.0 / -1000; three.layer.transform = theTransform; // display image 2 UIImageView *two = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"2.png"]]; two.center = CGPointMake(160, 240); [self.view addSubview:two]; // display image 1 UIImageView *one = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"1.png"]]; one.center = CGPointMake(160 - 60, 240 + 60); [self.view addSubview:one]; // rotate image 3 around the z axis // THIS IS INCORRECT theTransform = one.layer.transform; theTransform.m34 = 1.0 / 1000; one.layer.transform = theTransform; // release the images [one release]; [two release]; [three release]; // rotate the parent view around the y axis theTransform = self.view.layer.transform; theTransform.m14 = 1.0 / -500; self.view.layer.transform = theTransform; [super viewDidLoad]; } I have very specific reasons why I'm not using an EAGLView and why I'm not loading the images as CALayers (i.e. why I'm using UIImageViews for each one). This is just a quick demo that I can use to work out exactly what I need in my parent application. Is there some matrix way to translate these 2d images along the z-axis so they will look like what I'm trying to represent? I've gone through the other StackOverflow articles as well as the Wikipedia references, and have not found what I'm looking for -- although I might not necessarily be using the right terms for what I'm trying to do.

  • MPMoviePlayerController not setting the bounds for background image

    - by VXtreme
    I am using MPMoviePlayerController for playing the media . I want to set the image at the background of the player.The image is set accordingly but when i set the bounds for the image then the image is not set according to bounds . I have tried following code: UIImageView *imageView=[[UIImageView alloc]initWithImage:[operationControl getCoverImage:stringId]]; imageView.bounds=CGRectMake(0, 100, 200, 200); [moviePlayer.backgroundView addSubview:imageView]; [moviePlayer.backgroundView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor purpleColor]]; moviePlayer.controlStyle = MPMovieControlStyleDefault; moviePlayer.shouldAutoplay = YES; [moviePlayer setScalingMode:MPMovieScalingModeAspectFit]; [self.view addSubview:moviePlayer.view]; [moviePlayer setFullscreen:YES animated:YES];

  • Should we use NsMutableArray in CGRectIntersect ?

    - by srikanth rongali
To know whether two sprites cross each other or not, should we use NSMutableArray to store the sprites ? In my game one fixed sprite(player) is there. And the other is a bullet fired and if this sprite intersects player sprite, then enemy won. I have used NSMutable Array to store the bullet sprites. If I do not use NSMutableArray then even though the the bullet intersects player it is not recognizing the intersection ? I am using ( (CGRectIntersectsRect(bulletRect, playerRect)). Thank You.

  • Save UITextView content in NSString.

    - by camilo
Hi, I'm trying to save the contents of an UITextView into a NSString which I will somehow persist later. The problem is that the UITextView "text" property doesn't save all the rows in the textView (after touching "return"). I tried print the TextView object and the textView.text, and they're different. Does anybody know how (after editing the textView) I can save its content into a String (or something else that I can later access and share through different views and persist in the database)? Thanks a lot. Pretty sure it is simple, but I'm honestly not finding the solution.

  • How can I add sprite image from a set of sprites which have different properties for each sprite?

    - by srikanth rongali
In my application one player and 10 targets are there. Each target appears one after the other (from target1 to target10). It's a shooting game. If we hit the first target then second target will come. The targets have properties like name, speedOfGunDraw, probability to hit the player, speedOfFire. What should I do to make them appear one after the other with these properties. I am using CCMenuItem for the target. I am using a sprite for the player. Please give me idea to do this. Thank You.

  • Can I create a UITableViewController that inherits from a custom subclass of UIViewController?

    - by prendio2
I have common functionality that I need to access from all screens of my app: a right bar button item and associated action. So as not to repeat the code I would like to set this up in a custom UIViewController and have all my view controllers inherit from it. - (void)viewDidLoad { UIBarButtonItem *rightBarButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemPlay target:self action:@selector(lightsCamera)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = rightBarButton; } - (void)lightsCamera { … } However, I have a number of UITableViewControllers however and I would like to know if it is possible for them to inherit the functionality too?

  • Smooth table view like on iPod.app

    - by Gilo
Hey folks ;), Im trying to redo the table view in the ipod.app. The one with 2 labels and the cover on the left. I want the same information there. I mean the cover plus all the other MPMediaItem stuff. Everything works fine. I can build the table and get all the information from the music library I need. My only problem is that my table is far away from being smooth. It lacks. When I remove the MPMediaArtworkItem from the table its super fast. So I guess its a problem with that. Is there any way to load the MPMediaProperties more faster? Whats the fastest way? THX in advance :)

  • Change Sprite Anchorpoint without moving it?

    - by OscarMk
Hello, I am trying to change my Sprite anchor point so that I can rotate over a 0.0f,0.0f anchorpoint. At first my object is rotation at the default anchor point (0.5f,0.5f). However later on I need it to rotate over a 0.0,0.0 AnchorPoint. The problem is I cannot change the anchor point and change the position accordingly, so it stays on the same position, without the object appearing to quickly move and reposition to its original point. Is there a way I can set the anchor point and the position of my Sprite at once, without it moving at all?. Thank you. -Oscar

  • Force a view change from a button when using UITabBarController

    - by user342197
Hello - When using a UITabBarController, when the user enters some data on View1 and presses a button, I need to perform some calculations and present the results on View2. I have an AppDelegate, View1Controller, View2Controller, and View3Controller (View3 is a basically static view). My AppDelgate declares UITabBarController *rootController; On View1, I have the calculations being performed in an IBAction for buttonPressed; however, I can't seem to force the view to switch to View2 programmatically. I have done a lot of searching for similar problems, and think I should be doing something like "self.rootController.selectedIndex = 1"; however, when I do this from within buttonPressed on my View1Controller, I get an error "request for member rootController in something not in a structure or union". I think I'm missing something basic here... probably need do do something with my AppDelegate, but I'm banging my head against the wall. Can anyone provide some guidance in this situation...like key things I should do in View1Controller header and implementation with reference to my AppDelgate? Thank you!

  • What's the best NAME for "quick" Category you add to a file?

    - by Joe Blow
So the other day I was sick of typing out repetetive addTarget:action:forControlEvents:s, and macros are only entertaining for so long, so I did this: @implementation UIControl (xx) -(void)addTarget:(id)target action:(SEL)action { [self addTarget:target action:action forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; } @end *and simply added it at the top of the .m file in question. Works great of course, but notice the "xx".* What's the best thing to NAME a "quick" Category like this? Annoyingly, it appears you can not leave the xx blank - it would then become an "Extension" (which, incidentally, I don't understand at all). I was thinking maybe: a single underscore the name of the class again identically "quick" perhaps the name of the class in this file (as in "quick extra routines for UIControl in CherryBomb") - so it would be UIControl(CherryBomb), ie, remind you that these extra routines are handy for CherryBomb "x" your or your company's initials (use the same "quick" Category name everywhere) "ThisTextNeverUsedAnywhere" By the way, I've been assuming that Categories only happen in the files that see them (CherryBomb.m in the example) - they do not from then on apply app-wide. ie they only apply where you include the header file (UIControl+NattyStuff) or in the "quick" case only in the file to which one adds the text. (By the way ... it appears you do not actually need to include an interface for such a Category, i.e. you can omit... //you can actually get away without these lines... //#import <UIKit/UIControl.h> //@interface UIControl (x) //-(void)addTarget:(id)target action:(SEL)action; //@end ... that part and it works fine.) For people who love Categories, and who doesn't, what's the answer to this troubling question? What should you name a "quick" Category where the name is never going to be referenced again and is irrelevant? Is "_" a solution?

  • Added buttons, webview, added outlets, but can't play with them in the code...

    - by Tom
Hi! I made a toolbar with two buttons on it. I then created two outlets in my class controller. Then I hooked the the controller to the buttons and selected the outlets. Finally I rewritten the class files (that added: IBOutlet id next; IBOutlet id previous; to my .h file). So now, everything looks okay. But then I try somewhere in the code to change the state of one of my button like this: next.enabled = YES; I tried with self. too but unfortunately I receive this error message: error: request for member 'enabled' in something not a structure or union Do you have any idea of what's happening there? And yes I have: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> :) Using: [next setEnabled:YES]; gives me no error but still doesn't work... And finally, for documenting purposes here's the whole method: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; if (!self.currentLevel) { self.currentLevel = @"1"; } NSArray *etape = [self.etapes objectForKey:self.currentLevel]; if ([etape count] > 0) { self.navigationItem.title = [etape objectAtIndex:1]; if ([etape count] > 1) { [next setEnabled:YES]; } } else { self.navigationItem.title = @"Aucune étape"; } } When I do: NSLog(@"%@", [next class]); It returns (null) ... I guess it is supposed to be UIBarButtonItem... It seems that it is impossible to play with any outlets even if I don't receive any errors while playing with them...

  • SingleTap on UIScrollView

    - by ludo
Hi, I see many post dealing with the UIScrollView like in the PhotoApp, but I don't really understand them, thats why I want to reopen a post about it and have a simple solution. What I want is to create (without IB) a simple UIViewController who will contain a UIScrollView (inside my scrollView there will be image and the scrollView will be set to pagingEnable to YES of course). I want to be able with a simple touch of the screen to display the navigationController.navigationBar inside my UIViewController and with another touch not displaying it of course. Can anyone show me how to implement that? thanks,

  • Looking for an elegant way to store one-to-many relationship in coredata when order is important

    - by Eric Schweichler
I've been trying to come up with a way to solve my problem, but every solution I can think of is messy and makes me want to retch. I have a one-to-many relationship, consisting of a Team object that can have many Member objects. When I built my data model using Xcode, I was given the default NSSet in which to store the member objects, Unfortunately Sets are not ordered and I need to preserve the order of the Member objects and I need to know if there are empty spaces between Members. I thought of Using an NSArray in place of the NSSet and creating a dummy Member object in my data store that I could use to mark vacant a spot between to Member objects, but that solution really feels like too much of a hack to me. Since I'll always have to filter out this dummy Member from any queries. An NSDictionary would be perfect as I could store the Member object references and their positions as Object-Key pairs, (taking care of both order and vacancies) but apparently CoreData does not support NSDictionary. Has anyone had a similar need, and devised a simple solution?

  • NSString writeToFile operation couldn't be completed

    - by Chonch
Hey, I have an xml file in my application bundle. I want to copy it to the documents folder at installation and then, every time the app launches, get the newest version of this file from the Internet. I use this code: // Check if the file exists in the documents folder NSString *documentsPath = [NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) objectAtIndex:0]; if (![[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:[documentsPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"fileName.xml"]]) // If not, copy it there (from the bundle) [[NSFileManager defaultManager] copyItemAtPath:[[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"OriginalFile.xml"] toPath:[documentsPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"fileName.xml"] error:nil]; // Get the newest version of the file from the server NSURL *url=[[NSURL alloc] initWithString:@"http://www.sitename.com/webservice.asmx/webserviceName"]; NSString *results = [[NSString alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url]; // Replace the current version with the newest one, only if it is valid if (results != nil) [results writeToFile:[documentsPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"fileName.xml"] atomically:NO encoding:NSStringEncodingConversionAllowLossy error:nil]; The problem is that the writeToFile command always returns NO and the file's contents remain identical to the original file I included in my app bundle. I checked the value of results and it's correct. I also made sure that the app does perform the writeToString command, but still, it always returns NO. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks,

  • Wizard style navigation, dismissing a view and showing another one

    - by Robin Jamieson
I'm making a set of screens similar to a wizard and I'd like to know how to make a view dismiss itself and its parent view and immediately show a 'DoneScreen' without worrying about resource leaks. My views look like the following: Base -> Level1 -> DoneScreen -> Level2 -> DoneScreen The Level1 controller is a navigation controller created with a view.xib and shown with [self presentModalViewController ...] by the Base controller. The Level1 controller is also responsible for creating the 'DoneScreen' which may be shown instead of the Level2 Screen based on a certain criteria. When the user taps a button on the screen, the Level1 controller instantiates the the Level2 controller and it displays it via [self.navigationController pushViewController ..] and Level2 controller's view has a 'Next' button. When the use hits the 'Next' button in the Level2 screen, I need to dismiss the current Level2's view as well as the Level1's view and display the 'DoneScreen', which would have been created and passed in to the Level2 controller from Level1. (partly to reduce code duplication, and partly to separate responsibilities among the controllers) In the Level2 controller, if I show the 'DoneScreen' first and dismiss itself with [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES]; then the Level1 controller's modal view is still present above the 'Base' but under the Done screen. What's a good way to clear out all of these views except the Base and then show the 'DoneScreen'? Any good suggestions on how to get this done in a simple but elegant manner?

  • What's the best way to measure and track performance over various calls at runtime?

    - by bitcruncher
Hello. I'm trying to optimize the performance of my code, but I'm not familiar with xcode's debuggers or debuggers in general. Is it possible to track the execution time and frequency of calls being made at runtime? Imagine a chain of events with some recursive calls over a fraction of a second. What's the best way to track where the CPU spends most of its time? Many thanks. Edit: Maybe this is better asked by saying, how do I use the xcode debug tools to do a stack trace?

  • UIScrollView Infinite Scrolling

    - by Ben Robinson
I'm attempting to setup a scrollview with infinite (horizontal) scrolling. Scrolling forward is easy - I have implemented scrollViewDidScroll, and when the contentOffset gets near the end I make the scrollview contentsize bigger and add more data into the space (i'll have to deal with the crippling effect this will have later!) My problem is scrolling back - the plan is to see when I get near the beginning of the scroll view, then when I do make the contentsize bigger, move the existing content along, add the new data to the beginning and then - importantly adjust the contentOffset so the data under the view port stays the same. This works perfectly if I scroll slowly (or enable paging) but if I go fast (not even very fast!) it goes mad! Heres the code: - (void) scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)scrollView { float pageNumber = scrollView.contentOffset.x / 320; float pageCount = scrollView.contentSize.width / 320; if (pageNumber > pageCount-4) { //Add 10 new pages to end mainScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(mainScrollView.contentSize.width + 3200, mainScrollView.contentSize.height); //add new data here at (320*pageCount, 0); } //*** the problem is here - I use updatingScrollingContent to make sure its only called once (for accurate testing!) if (pageNumber < 4 && !updatingScrollingContent) { updatingScrollingContent = YES; mainScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(mainScrollView.contentSize.width + 3200, mainScrollView.contentSize.height); mainScrollView.contentOffset = CGPointMake(mainScrollView.contentOffset.x + 3200, 0); for (UIView *view in [mainContainerView subviews]) { view.frame = CGRectMake(view.frame.origin.x+3200, view.frame.origin.y, view.frame.size.width, view.frame.size.height); } //add new data here at (0, 0); } //** MY CHECK! NSLog(@"%f", mainScrollView.contentOffset.x); } As the scrolling happens the log reads: 1286.500000 1285.500000 1284.500000 1283.500000 1282.500000 1281.500000 1280.500000 Then, when pageNumber<4 (we're getting near the beginning): 4479.500000 4479.500000 Great! - but the numbers should continue to go down in the 4,000s but the next log entries read: 1278.000000 1277.000000 1276.500000 1275.500000 etc.... Continiuing from where it left off! Just for the record, if scrolled slowly the log reads: 1294.500000 1290.000000 1284.500000 1280.500000 4476.000000 4476.000000 4473.000000 4470.000000 4467.500000 4464.000000 4460.500000 4457.500000 etc.... Any ideas???? Thanks Ben.

  • How to start writing out an existing AudioQueue in response to an event?

    - by Halle
Hello, I am writing a class that opens an AudioQueue and analyzes its characteristics, and then under certain conditions can begin or end writing out a file from that AudioQueue that is already instantiated. This is my code (entirely based on SpeakHere) that opens the AudioQueue without writing anything out to tmp: void AQRecorder::StartListen() { int i, bufferByteSize; UInt32 size; try { SetupAudioFormat(kAudioFormatLinearPCM); XThrowIfError(AudioQueueNewInput(&mRecordFormat, MyInputBufferHandler, this, NULL, NULL, 0, &mQueue), "AudioQueueNewInput failed"); mRecordPacket = 0; size = sizeof(mRecordFormat); XThrowIfError(AudioQueueGetProperty(mQueue, kAudioQueueProperty_StreamDescription, &mRecordFormat, &size), "couldn't get queue's format"); bufferByteSize = ComputeRecordBufferSize(&mRecordFormat, kBufferDurationSeconds); for (i = 0; i < kNumberRecordBuffers; ++i) { XThrowIfError(AudioQueueAllocateBuffer(mQueue, bufferByteSize, &mBuffers[i]), "AudioQueueAllocateBuffer failed"); XThrowIfError(AudioQueueEnqueueBuffer(mQueue, mBuffers[i], 0, NULL), "AudioQueueEnqueueBuffer failed"); } mIsRunning = true; XThrowIfError(AudioQueueStart(mQueue, NULL), "AudioQueueStart failed"); } catch (CAXException &e) { char buf[256]; fprintf(stderr, "Error: %s (%s)\n", e.mOperation, e.FormatError(buf)); } catch (...) { fprintf(stderr, "An unknown error occurred\n"); } } But I'm a little unclear on how to write a function that will tell this queue "from now until the stop signal, start writing out this queue to tmp as a file". I understand how to tell an AudioQueue to write out as a file at the time that it's created, how to set files format, etc, but not how to tell it to start and stop midstream. Much appreciative of any pointers, thanks.
