• Deactivated wifi drivers, now they won't activate again on a Dell Mini 10v?

  I have ubuntu 13.04. In the software and update menu, under additional drivers, Were it says "Broadcom Corporation; BCM4312 802.11b/gLP.PHY" the box labbeled "do not use it ticked" and when i try tick the one that says "Using Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA Wireless drivers....." it wont let me apply changes, it starts doing it then stops and re-ticks the do not use box. Because of this I can not use the wiress driver. Is there another way i can fix this. Or maby restore ubuntu to previous date. I accidentally ticked the do not use box this morning and now can't undo it. I have restarted several times to try apply changes and still no luck

• Fixing a broken toolbox (In Visual Studio 2010 SP1)

  I was recently running into a situation where every time I opened Visual Studio 2010 SP1, the following message would appear for about 60 seconds or so: "Loading toolbox content from package Microsoft.VisualStudio.IDE.Toolbox.ControlInstaller.ToolboxInstallerPackage '{2C98B35-07DA-45F1-96A3-BE55D91C8D7A}'" After finally get fed up with the issue, I started researching it and decided that I’d share the steps that I took to resolve it below: I first made a complete backup of my registry. I then removed the following key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\Packages\{2c298b35-07da-45f1-96a3-be55d91c8d7a}] I went to the following directory: C:\Users\Your Name Here\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\ and created a folder called bk and moved the .tbd files to that folder (they are hidden so you will have to show all files). I then removed the .tbd files in the root directory. I then launched Visual Studio 2010 SP1 again and it recreated those files and the problem was gone. • It appears you are running a x server NVIDIA Drivers 304.02 Ubuntu 12.04

  So I went to NVIDIA's site and I saw they had a version with a lot of bug fixes. http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/49073 and I downloaded it, I ran the .run file rooted. It keeps saying "It appears you are running a x server" I don't have any current NVIDIA driver installed, I tried the nvidia x-config thing but that didn't work. It just says it can't be found. Should I wait until that version gets on Ubuntu's software center? I don't feel like installing their old and bad version of the drivers.

• Most Useful New Technology?

  I'm looking to take a sort of sabbatical, and I'd love to use it to learn a new technology. My question is this: What's the most useful "new" technology for a software engineer to use? Node.js, iOS programming, Android, something else? I'd prefer to stay away from anything too new or experimental, since those are, in my experience, rarely actually used in professional production environments (for better or worse). Does anyone happen to have stats on how many jobs there are for each new technology or have anecdotes about how fun each one is? I've been using python/Django, so that's out, and it's similar to Ruby so i don't think learning Ruby would be that useful to expanding my skills. Anyone have any other ideas?

• Does your team develop their supporting tools or this should be outsourced out of it?

  By supporting tools, I mean: reference data manager, like virus definition for anti-virus software test data generator level builders for games simulators or advanced mocking systems Does the team building the core product (in the case above, the game or the anti-virus) should be part of the development of the supporting tools significantly, or this is a task you would outsourced out of the team to help it focus on the product? I don't have enough experience to evaluate the pros & cons of each, so I'm hopping you would come up with personal experiences to share, or even studies or papers you read on the subject.

  I'm applying for a company far away and if I get an interview it will probably be done remotely. I have been searching for advices regarding this but all tips seem to be directed at face-to-face meetings (things like "shake hands firmly"). What are the differences? How can I make the best out of those differences? Update: This is a software developer position, so there's also something about technical questions (such as, I can Google anything that they ask ;) This question also applies to any freelancers who are dealing with customers, or recruiters who are interviewing remotely. • Managing a manager who expects too much

  I am in 3rd line support. We do a lot of bug fixing (although we should be doing other stuff). Quite often, we get systems which are so badly designed and configured (at the server OS level and software level) that they are beyond repair. Yet my manager, even though he was a dev, may swear when I tell him the system is unrepairable (As the person who does our server work gives an opinion that it's FUBAR). However, he still expects it to work without a rebuild. How can I make it work like that when a guy with a million years more experience says the system needs a rebuild?

• Wi-Fi Connection Issues.. tried a lot.. pls help

  I am posting a question for the first time, do not know coding and am relatively new to ubuntu, but a quick learner. I have an Acer Aspire One D270 notebook that came originally with Windows 7 starter installed. I have removed that and installed Ubuntu 12.04 I have chronic issues with connecting to the wi-fi. I figure it is due to issues with the driver(s) I think this is the driver I have- BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter (on entering this in the terminal- lshw -C) I also installed the software Windows wireless drivers and it shows currently installed drivers as blank- but when i choose install new drivers, it asks me to select inf file which I do not know where to find. Please help with this, coders. Thanks a ton

  Software development is an area where parallel development to its fullest form is very difficult to achieve, although you could get reasonably close with the right design. This is especially true for game development. That being said, if you are designing a game from scratch from engine to front end, what steps should be taken in order? How would you efficiently manage your project and your team? I'm asking because several people and I are interested in working on a relatively large project for learning purposes. • No desktop after installation of nvidia drivers

  I have a problem very similar to this guy: Desktop does not show when I installed nvidia drivers!. I have the same problem with the desktop not being present when I install choose the nvidia drivers from the software sources dialog. I've trie the answer mark as the solution, but this doesn't help me. Still get the same result / bug. I've also tried just to reconfigure it, like this guy says: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=12303179&postcount=4, but that didn't help me either. Then someone suggested that I should try Bumblebee. I followed the installation (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee#Installation) and after the reboot the resolution was still crappy, but this time the desktop did show up, but with bad graphics and I couldn't use optirun and it turned out that bumblebee couldn't start. I hope someone might know whats wrong or what I'm doing wrong. I have a Lenovo W520 with a nvidia Quadro FX 880M and I'm running ubuntu 12.10

• Application trying to use the wrong shared library

  I'm having a problem with a program (quartus) running on my ubuntu machine. I'm getting the following error. quartus: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXi.so: undefined symbol: XESetWireToEventCookie I have the correct libXi.so.6.0.0 file but no matter where I put it, the OS won't use it unless I apt-get remove libxi-dev, but a lot of software uses this libXi. What I want to do is add some sort of exception to the dynamic linker so that quartus uses the libXi.so that it needs and everything else still uses the one in /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu. Thanks!

• Menu to let me choose OS to run in a dual boot machine

  I recently re-imaged my Dell PC to dual-install Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. The dual-boot was a success, since I was able to start whichever OS I wanted. Now, I installed some software (the OpenJDK package) on the Ubuntu side of the PC. Upon restarting Ubuntu, I unfortunately lost the ability to choose the OS that I wanted to run (i.e., Ubuntu). Ordinarily, I'd expect to: 1. Hit the power button 2. A menu (Grub?) shows up listing all OSs installed in the PC (namely, Win7 and Ubuntu) 3. Choose which OS I want and hit enter. bingo. The problem is that I don't see that menu (step 2 above). Instead, windows automatically starts, even when I hit F12 to see the boot options, none of which I understand. Your help would be great! • FxCop ... Where have you been all my life?

  I was recently introduced to microsoft's tool that analyzes managed code assemblies called FxCop. It points out possible design, localization, performance, and security improvements against a pre defined set of rules (and also accepts custom rules). At first I was unsure how to go about using it as it seems to be aimed at software developers (.exe and .dll) . Its easy to get around this with the following steps: 1)Create a new folder (i.e C:\Code Analysis) 2)Publish your web application into the new folder 3)Open FxCop and add all the dll files from the newly created bin folder  to be scrutinized. • ctrl + a doesn't work in browsers

  The combination for select all (ctrl+a) doesn't work in a browser (either if we speak about firefox or chromium). It doesn't work if I try to clik in to the adress bar nor if I try to use it to select what I've written in google search bar at google.com. When I press ctrl + a it simply takes the cursor before the first letter. This doesn't happen when I use a text editor software like Libre Office. There the shortcut does what's supposed to do, selecting all the text. What could be the problem?

• Cant find one particular wireless network. Worked before, but sudenly stopt working.

  My first question here. My problem is: I cant find my wireless network at home. Situation: It worked fine 7 days ago. It works with a cable(wierd). I find the network on my ipad/phone. I can connect to wireless hotspot network form my phone and wireless at my university, and it works fine. I can connect to the network in windows What I have tried: Tried this Strange network issue; works on windows, but not on ubuntu, works on campus wireless, but not at home (removing resolve.conf). Hardware and software: I have a Broadcom card Use dual boot ubuntu 12.04 - windows 7 Things I did to make wireless work: blacklist brcmsmac blacklist bcma blacklist b43 blacklist ssb Can anyone help me? I'm about to kill myself(not literary)!! I'm not that good in linux so go gentle on me:)

• Drive By Download Issue

  I'm getting a drive by download issue reported on www.cottonsandwichquiltshop.com/catalog/index.php?manufacturers_id=19&sort=2a&filterid=61 reported from safeweb.norton.com when I scan the root url. I have dug through the entire site architecture, and code base and removed a few files that were malicious, i upgraded the site's framework and fixed the security holes (mostly sql injection concerns)..... However this one threat still exists and I can't locate it for the life of me, or find any valid research or information on removing this type of threat at the server level, mostly just a bunch of anti-virus software wanting to sell you on their ability to manage it on the client end. PLEASE HELP Thanks.

  this is not a exclamatory we all know about that they always postponed their time for product release. I not know what is means of it. maybe it’s trick microsoft use to make their software popular. but sometime it’s give bad impression to user. On 2009 Microsoft put a widget [ countdown ] widget for launching Visual studio 2010. who used by many MSDN blogger. Somasagar are one of them who put the widget on their blog that show “How much time after Visual studio goes released”. but after post ponding the date I not know where widget was gone. site are down who provide the widget. they use same trick they postponed their  date 20 march to 12 April to release the Visual studio. well wait something more and next time never  believe that it’s really gone to release on certain date they show you on blog.
