  • recently used programs stopped updating Vista Home Premium 64

    - by Calum
For some reason my list of recently used programs has stopped updating. Any program that I "pin" to the start menu remains, but where you would normally expect to see the recent programs is just blank space. What setting do you think could have changed? I don't recall changing anything. Thanks! edit Start MenuProperties Privacy "Store and display a list of recently used programs" is indeed checked.

  • Disadvantages of not having a swap partition

    - by Bo Tian
I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. Due to space constraint of the SSD, I did not set a swap partition for the OS, and I have 1.5GB of RAM. There's a warning during installation, but I think it's not a big deal since everything went smoothly. For the long term, would there be any drawbacks of not having a swap partition?

  • FWBuilder DNS Object Run Time - when exactly does it resolve the DNS name?

    - by Jakobud
In Firewall Builder, when you use the DNS Object and set it to run time, when exactly does the firewall (iptables in our case) actually resolve the DNS name? Is it whenever a call is made to that DNS name in the firewall? So the firewall would resolve the name on the fly whenever someone/something tries to access that DNS name? Or is it when you execute the fw script to load the rules into iptables? So in this case, it would resolve the DNS name that one time and then hard-code the resulting ip address into the iptable rules? From what I read, I think its #1, but it's just not 100% clear to me. We have two servers for a certain function on our network. One is the primary server and one is backup. alpha0.domain.com alpha1.domain.com In DNS we have this: alpha.domain.com -> alpha0.domain.com If the primary server goes down and we need to switch to the backup, I just change our local DNS record to point to alpha1.domain.com instead. So back to the firewall, if I just put in a Domain Object as alpha.domain.com, do I have to reload the firewall rules every time we switch to the backup alpha server and change the DNS record? Or will the firewall automatically resolve to the correct address even after the switch?

  • What's the proper way to setup a client chosen domain name?

    - by Greg
In my web app, I'm toying with the idea of giving my user the opportunity to select a subdomain of their choosing, so they could select something like: foobar.myapp.com where foobar is their chosen subdomain. What is the proper way to go about setting up something like this? .htaccess? Have some api for writing virtual hosts? The application would still always map to one directory on my sever, I just want to give theme a custom URL.

  • Sendmail stat=Sent

    - by user44774
Guys, I am trying to figure out why sendmail is saying that it sends out an email but I actually never get it. This is from the logs when the email is being sent out: I have replaced the email address with some fake address and I have also replaced the name of the server with a fake hostname. The most significant point of this information from the logs is that it shows that the "Message was accepted for delivery". Do you guys have any suggestions as to why it seems like the message goes out but I never get the actual email? • Tomato/DD-WRT router to act as switch & only NAT some port

    - by fseto
BACKGROUND: I have a device that must use a real IP address. Currently, my ISP uses DHCP and I can have up to 4 real IP address assigned. However, the cable modem only have 1 ethernet port and it's connected to my router (running Tomato, but can run DD-wrt or other Openwrt if required). Question stems from how I can connect the additional device, requiring a real IP? EASY SOLUTION: would be to get a switch and connect to the CM, Router, and Device. But alas, I want to avoid this route, since: my wiring cabinet in my home is drawing lots of power and heat already Device will be unprotected by any firewall unable to monitor the traffic to/from device. Besides, what would be the FUN in that? =) IDEA: So what I want to do is to configure the router, so that one of the switchport is removed from the normal br0 bridge. Instead, I want to make it behave like a switch on the WAN port. What's the best way of doing this? Should I create another bridge on the WAN & the device port? Can a single port belongs to two bridges? or would I need to create a subinterface first? Would I need a DHCP-relay? Am I expecting too much from my poor cheapie router? +------+ | CM | +--++--+ || +----WAN---------------+ | / \ Router | | BR1? • Code optimizer extension for Dreamweaver?

    - by Vercas
Due to my neat coding style, my pages take up like 30% more space on both my server and the output HTML. Is there any free extension for Dreamweaver to automatically optimize my pages when uploading them? I mean not only HTML, but also PHP, CSS and JS... Actually, removing unnecessary tabs, spaces and new lines will just do the trick. After removing the unnecessary spaces, tabs and new lines from my PHP code, the page loaded three times faster so this is important...

  • Best way to partition 1TB (Linux&Windows7)

    - by Simon
Any intelligent way to partition 1TB and be prepared for resizing/adding/deleting partitions? I was thinking about LVM, but as far as i remember, Windows7 can't be installed on logical volume right? For now my plan is: - ~150GB for Windows7 and other stuff (VisualStudio..., maybe I'll split it 100/50 or something like that) - simple NTFS - 850GB = LVM - disk for linux (Ubuntu) and other stuff virtual machines etc. I'm mostly interested in how and what tools should I use to get easy in maintain partitions for both systems.

  • Am I able to forward traffic from an external subdomain to a specific local host?

    - by George Bowman
I apologise in advance if the question doesn't make sense, please let me know. I've got a small LAN (~10 Virtual Servers) using Win Server 2008 as a DNS server. This is behind a smoothwall express 3.0 firewall with ports forwarded for specific services. I have a domain (123-reg) with the NS's that of afraid.org (DynamicDNS) and subdomains pointed to my (Dynamic) IP address e.g. subdomain1.example.com - 123.456.789.101. I think that adequately explains my set up. My question is, am I able to have subdomains e.g. subdomain1.example.com only point to a specific local host? Like so: subdomain1.example.com:80 - firewall(external facing) - server1.example.com:80 subdomain2.example.com:80 - firewall(external facing) - server2.example.com:80 I don't actually necessarily want to use port 80, otherwise I would just use VirtualHosts on apache, it is just an example port. Currently I can use either subdomain1.example.com OR subdomain2.example.com and they will both point to server1.example.com:80 I do not have to stay using Win Server 2008 for DNS, I am more than happy to move over to BIND if needs be, it was just easier to use Win Server 2008's DNS. I do not know if this is even possible, I have a feeling it isn't as I've only got one external IP address but any information is useful!

  • Windows 7 caches FTP credentials?

    - by Martin Booka Weser
On my remote maschine i have an iis 7.5 (win server 2008) and set up an ftp site with iis manager authentication. I then did active directory user isolation and isolated my users to physical folders according to their names. So far, so good. I can access with ftp cliens from everywhere with different test accounts that i previously set up in the iis manager auth. Every user connects to its own folder. When i now tested with windows 7 as a client i did the following. Explorer - computer - right click - add network address - the ip of my remote maschine - user1 - password1 Perfect - it works. I now want to connect with user2. So I deleted this network address and set up a new connection, but with user2 (or even anonymous) instead. Now the strange thing: Windows doesn't even ask me for a password again. It just connects me to the folder of the user1. I already disabled ftp caching in the IIS and i disabled the user1 account in IIS manager authentication! Still, if i set up a network connection with this windows 7 it connects to the folder user1 . No matter which username i use (anonymous, administrator, user2,...). And if i connect with other ftp clients or other computers it all works perfectly. So I assume that this one windows somehow caches the credentials... But then, why does the IIS still accepts this credentials even if i disabled this user1 account??? Thanks.

  • Deleting Temporary Internet Files through Group Policy

    - by Kami
I have a domain controller running on Windows 2008 Server R2 and users login to application servers on which Windows 2003 Server SP2 is installed. I have applied a Group Policy to clean temporary internet files on exit i.e to delete all temporary internet files when users close the browser. But the group policy doesn't seem to work as user profile size keeps on increasing and the major space is occupied by temporary internet files therefore increasing the disk usage. How can i enforce automatic deletion of temporary internet files?

  • How to set up daisy-chained routers for separate sub-nets?

    - by joe
This question seems to be similar to others, but I'll take a shot anyway. A client recently switched ISPs from TDS to Comcast Business Class. Before the switch, they had 5 static IP addresses assigned. Now they'll have a single IP address that will change whenever Comcast decides to do so. The issue is that this internet connection will be shared among two companies, both having (and wanting to keep) their own private subnets. Because TDS was supplying multiple IP addresses to the one location, this allowed me to put each router on the switch. Now, with Comcast, they only get one IP address, meaning there has to be a main router before the subnet routers. Luckily, the cable modem has a built-in router, which I would like to connect to each company's router, and still have DHCP enabled on all accounts. Question: What do I need to do to the subnet routers to keep them separate from each other, but still allow internet access from the main router. I would love to say "I tried this", and give you links, but everything I find on the internet only mentions daisy-chaining routers with DCHP disabled.

  • Configuring network route between two routers on home network

    - by Paul
I have a home network - the main router connected to the internet (and has wifi) is a Netopia box. Connected to it is a Linksys router. Everything currently works - I can connect via the wireless network and get to the internet. Machines connected to the Linksys can connect with each other and connect to the internet. Both routers are configured to serve addresses via DHCP (Netopia 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.99), Linksys (192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.100). Here's how they are connected: Internet <-> Netopia w/wifi (192.168.1.254) <-> Linksys (192.168.0.1) I decided I really need to allow wireless connections to also communicate with machines behind the Linksys router. Currently the Linksys is configured to obtain an IP address via DHCP. I thought this would be straightforward. I configured the Linksys to have a static IP address: IP: 192.168.1.100 Mask: 255.255.255.0 GW: 192.168.1.254 Then I configured a static route on the Netopia: Network: 192.168.0.0 Mask: 255.255.255.0 GW: 192.168.1.100 So it should now look like this: Internet <-> Netopia w/wifi (192.168.1.254) <-> (192.168.1.100) Linksys (192.168.0.1) I reset both routers. I cannot ping the Netopia (192.168.1.254) from inside the Linksys network, and if I attempt to ping 192.168.0.1 from a wifi connection I get a "Destination host not available" error. Obviously I'm missing something, but I'm not sure where. Any ideas on what I'm missing?

  • TOR Proxy / Vidalia "New Identity" button not working

    - by Yisman
I need to hide my ip from time to time. In Vidalia, I click on "New Identity". Ihen I check http://myip.ozymo.com/ to see if my IP address has changed. But, no, it hasn't. Why is that? And how can this be fixed? I tried waiting till the button gets re-enabled to make sure that its done processing the command, but still the IP address is the same. In Fiddler each request is tracked, so it's not a cached response. It's re-requested, but simply does not change. Fiddler though does show one thing interesting. Here is the raw response of many of the requests: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Content-Length: 13 Date: Mon, 23 May 2011 12:02:57 GMT Server: Apache X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.14 Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Age: 1 Connection: keep-alive **Warning: 110 localhost:8118 Object is stale** 26.32.120.106 What is this warning? And is this the cause?

  • Can you create ACLs with open vSwitch on XenServer 5.6FP1 without using the DVS appliance?

    - by bwizzy
I have a pool of XenServer hosts running the Free version of XenServer 5.6 FP1. I was wondering if I change the network backend to use Open vSwitch if I can specify ACLs on individual network VIFs without needing to use the DVS appliance (distributed virtual switch) which requires an Advanced License or higher. Basically I'm looking for a way to isolate VMs on my network so that if a user had root access on the command line they couldn't access other servers they should not be able to (without using a VLAN).

  • Zyxel P-320W: How to connect to my web server using public IP

    - by hvtuananh
My company's router is Zyxel P-320W and I have a public static IP. I registered a few domains name and point to this IP address. I already setup Virtual Hosts and configured port-forwarding to my internal server and it works well. I can connect to all domains from outside The problem is I cannot connect to my domains from inside One workaround way is modify hosts file to add internal IP for those domains, but my company have many computers and I don't want to setup all PC manually

  • IPv6 Addresses causing Exchange Relay whitelists to fail

    - by makerofthings7
Several of our new Exchange servers are failing to relay messages because it is communicating over IPv6 and not matching any receive connector I previously set up. I'm not sure how we are using IP6 since we only have a IPv4 network and we are routing across subnets. I discovered this by typing helo in from the source to the server that is confused by my IP6 address. I saw the IPv6 message and the custom message I gave this receive connector. (connectors with more permission have a different helo) 220 HUB01 client helo asdf 250 HUB01.nfp.com Hello [fe80::cd8:6087:7b1e:99d4%11] More info about my environment: I have two dedicated Exchange forests each with a distinct purpose. They have no trust and only communicate by SMTP. They both share the same DNS infrastructure via stub zones. What are my options? This is my guess, but I'm no IPv6 expert so I don't know which one is the best option Disable IPv6 Add the IPv6 address to the whitelist (isn't that IP dynamic?) Tell Exchange to use IPv4 instead Figure out why we are using IPv6 instead of IP4

  • sub domains with /etc/hosts and apache for gitorious

    - by QLands
I managed to have a local install of Gitorious. Now I need to finalize the apache integration using a virtual server but nothing seems to work. See for example my /etc/hosts file: 127.0.0.1 localhost 172.26.17.70 darkstar.ilri.org darkstar 172.26.17.70 git.darkstar.ilri.org My vhosts.conf has the following entries: # # Use name-based virtual hosting. # NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> <Directory /srv/httpd/htdocs> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks ExecCGI AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> ServerName darkstar.ilri.org DocumentRoot /srv/httpd/htdocs ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/error_log AddHandler cgi-script .cgi </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> <Directory /srv/httpd/git.darkstar.ilri.org/gitorious/public> Options FollowSymLinks ExecCGI AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from All </Directory> AddHandler cgi-script .cgi DocumentRoot /srv/httpd/git.darkstar.ilri.org/gitorious/public ServerName git.darkstar.ilri.org ErrorLog /var/www/git.darkstar.ilri.org/log/error.log CustomLog /var/www/git.darkstar.ilri.org/log/access.log combined AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml text/javascript text/css application/x-javascript BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4 gzip-only-text/html BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4\.0[678] no-gzip BrowserMatch \bMSIE !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html <FilesMatch "\.(ico|pdf|flv|jpg|jpeg|png|gif|js|css|swf)$"> ExpiresActive On ExpiresDefault "access plus 1 year" </FilesMatch> FileETag None RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/system/maintenance.html -f RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !maintenance.html RewriteRule ^.*$ /system/maintenance.html [L] </VirtualHost> Now, when I go with Firefox to darkstar.ilri.org it shows the default Apache screen: "It works!". but when I go to git.darkstar.ilri.org it waits for few seconds then falls to darkstar.ilri.org and the default apache page. No error is reported. If I run httpd -S I get: VirtualHost configuration: wildcard NameVirtualHosts and _default_ servers: *:80 is a NameVirtualHost default server darkstar.ilri.org (/etc/httpd/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf:21) port 80 namevhost darkstar.ilri.org (/etc/httpd/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf:21) port 80 namevhost git.darkstar.ilri.org (/etc/httpd/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf:37) Syntax OK The funny thing is that if I configure gotirious in a host called gitrepository, add 127.0.0.1 gitrepository and go with Firefox to gitrepository.. Gitorious works... But why not with git.darkstar.ilri.org? Many thanks in advance.

  • Setting up SSL on JBoss 5

    - by socal_javaguy
How can I enable SSL on JBoss 5 on a Linux (Red Hat - Fedora 8) box? What I've done so far is: (1) Create a test keystore. (2) Placed the newly generated server.keystore in $JBOSS_HOME/server/default/conf (3) Make the following change in the server.xml in $JBOSS_HOME/server/default/deploy/jbossweb.sar to include this: <!-- SSL/TLS Connector configuration using the admin devl guide keystore --> <Connector protocol="HTTP/1.1" SSLEnabled="true" port="8443" address="${jboss.bind.address}" scheme="https" secure="true" clientAuth="false" keystoreFile="${jboss.server.home.dir}/conf/server.keystore" keystorePass="mypassword" sslProtocol = "TLS" /> (4) The problem is that when JBoss starts it logs this exception (during start-up) (but I am still able to view everything under http://localhost:8080/): 03:59:54,780 ERROR [Http11Protocol] Error initializing endpoint java.io.IOException: Cannot recover key at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.jsse.JSSESocketFactory.init(JSSESocketFactory.java:456) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.jsse.JSSESocketFactory.createSocket(JSSESocketFactory.java:139) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.JIoEndpoint.init(JIoEndpoint.java:498) at org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Protocol.init(Http11Protocol.java:175) at org.apache.catalina.connector.Connector.initialize(Connector.java:1029) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardService.initialize(StandardService.java:683) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardServer.initialize(StandardServer.java:821) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.service.deployers.TomcatService.startService(TomcatService.java:313) I do know that's there's more to be done to enable full SSL client authentication....
