• Queuing using table or MSMQ?

  A part of the application I'm working on is an swf that shows a test with some 80 questions. Each question is saved to a sql server through WebORB and asp.net. If a candidate finisheds the test, the session needs to be validated. Problem now is that sometimes 350 candidates finish their test at the same moment, and cpu on webserver and sql server explodes (350 validations concurrently). Now, how would I implement queuing here? In the database, there's a table that has a record for each session. One column holds the status. 1 is finished, 2 is validated. I could implement queuing in two ways (as I see it, maybe you have other propositions): A process that checks the table for records with status 1. If it finds one, it validates the session. So, sessions are validated one after one. If a candidate finishes its session, a message is sent to a MSMQ queue. Another process listens to the queue and validates sessions one after one. Now, What would be the best approach? Where do you start the process that will validate sessions? In your global.asax (application_start)? As a windows service? As an exe on the root of the website that is started in application_start? To me, using the table and looking for records with status 1 seems the easiest way.

  Is there any way to create a variable, and add an ID to the end of the actual variable name? I have a variable called 'gauge', used to create a new Gauge object: var gauge = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); I want to add an ID to the variable, so something like: var gauge+id = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); It's because I'm creating a number of these objects, and have a specific ID already for each one, which I want to attach to the gauge object if possible? • x86 Assembly: Before Making a System Call on Linux Should You Save All Registers?

  I have the below code that opens up a file, reads it into a buffer and then closes the file. The close file system call requires that the file descriptor number be in the ebx register. The ebx register gets the file descriptor number before the read system call is made. My question is should I save the ebx register on the stack or somewhere before I make the read system call, (could int 80h trash the ebx register?). And then restore the ebx register for the close system call? Or is the code I have below fine and safe? • What would be a better implementation of shared variable among subclass

  So currently I have a spring unit testing application. And it requires me to get a session cookie from a foreign authentication source. Problem what that is, this authentication process is fairly expensive and time consuming, and I am trying to create a structure where I am authenticate once, by any subclass, and any subsequent subclass is created, it will reuse this session cookie without hitting the authentication process again. My problem right now is, the static cookie is null each time another subclass is created. And I been reading that using static as a global variable is a bad idea, but I couldn't think of another way to do this because of Spring framework setting things during run time and how I would set the cookie so that all other classes can use it. Another piece of information. The variable is being use, but is change able during run time. It is not a single user being signed in and used across the board. But more like a Sub1 would call login, and we have a cookie. Then multiple test will be using that login until SubX will come in and say, I am using different credential, so I need to login as something else. And repeats. The file.createNewFile(); creates the temp.htm file outside the .jar file So when editorPane.setPage(Program.class.getResource("temp.htm")); is called the file is not found as it searches for file inside the test package. How to setPage() the temp.htm file whiich is outside the .jar file but in the same folder as the .jar file? As the temp.htm is a localfile and I want a relative path instead of an absolute path. After reading many articles, it states that we need to set the "maximum memory used" for the Application Pool to 800mb to eliminate the "out of memory exceptions" that are happening for us. However, what should the "maximum virtual memory" in the Application Pool be set to? I can't find information as to what that should be set to.

  I have simply created a python server with : python -m SimpleHTTPServer I had a .htaccess (I don't know if it is usefull with python server) with: AddHandler cgi-script .py Options +ExecCGI Now I am writing a simple python script : #!/usr/bin/python import cgitb cgitb.enable() print 'Content-type: text/html' print ''' <html> <head> <title>My website</title> </head> <body> <p>Here I am</p> </body> </html> ''' I make test.py (name of my script) an executed file with: chmod +x test.py I am launching in firefox with this addres: (http : //) 0.0.0.0:8000/test.py Problem, the script is not executed... I see the code in the web page... And server error is: localhost - - [25/Oct/2012 10:47:12] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 - localhost - - [25/Oct/2012 10:47:13] code 404, message File not found localhost - - [25/Oct/2012 10:47:13] "GET /favicon.ico HTTP/1.1" 404 - How can I manage the execution of python code simply? Is it possible to write in a python server to execute the python script like with something like that: import BaseHTTPServer import CGIHTTPServer httpd = BaseHTTPServer.HTTPServer(\ ('localhost', 8123), \ CGIHTTPServer.CGIHTTPRequestHandler) ###  here some code to say, hey please execute python script on the webserver... ;-) httpd.serve_forever() Or something else...

  Hi could some one look at this and tell me where I am going wrong. I have an SQL statement that when I echo using php I get this to screen INSERT INTO 'moviedb'.'genre' SET 'GenreID' = '18' , 'GenreName' = 'Drama' ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE 'GenreName' = 'Drama' WHERE 'GenreID' = '18' INSERT INTO 'moviedb'.'genre' SET 'GenreID' = '16' , 'GenreName' = 'Animation' ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE 'GenreName' = 'Animation' WHERE 'GenreID' = '16' And here is the statement $sql="INSERT INTO 'moviedb'.'genre' SET 'GenreID' = '{$genresID[$i]}' , 'GenreName' = '{$genreName[$i]}' ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE 'GenreName' = '{$genreName[$i]}' WHERE 'GenreID' = '{$genresID[$i]}'"; This is the error I recieve: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ''moviedb'.'genre' SET 'GenreID' = '18' , 'GenreName' = 'Drama' ON DUPLICATE KEY ' at line 1 Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

  I am trying to set the default value for a new column I just added. In properties I am trying to set 'Default Value or Binding' to a simple XML along the lines of: <root><title>Welcome</title><body>Thank you for your time.</body></root> However, when I click away, I get "sql error validating the default for column," I set this value in other numerical columns and it worked fine. What gives?

• Why isn't this company contacting me? [closed]

  I had a phone screen the other day with a company that I really want to work for. It went pretty well, based on cues from the HR person, such as "Next step we're going to send you a programming test," and "Well, before I get ahead of myself, do you want to continue the interviewing process." and "We'll send out the test later this afternoon. It doesn't sound like you'll have trouble with it, but I want to be honest we do have a high failure rate on it." The questions asked weren't technical, just going down my resume, and talking about the work I've done, and how it relates to the position. Nothing I couldn't talk through. This was last Thursday. It's now Tuesday, and haven't received the test yet. I sent a follow up email yesterday to the lady who interviewed me, but haven't gotten a response. Anyone had a similar experience? Am I reading too much into this? Or was I off the mark by thinking I had moved on to the next step in the interview process. Since this is a company I really want to work for, I'm driving myself insane enumerating all the various what-if scenarios.
