Hello i have Just Cause 2 installed on windows XP, i also install DirectX10 on it. So the only think i need its a new exe that dont ask for XP. Do you know were can i find one? Thanks
This is more of a theory question, but what are the reason(s) for a disk to suddenly cause Windows to start saying it "needs to be formatted"?
It happens to an IDE disk that I have in a cheap external enclosure, and I can usually get most of the data back by using software like recuva. It's now happened to an internal disk I have. I'm not looking for software to fix this (although links would be appreciated), but rather a low-level explanation as to what gets corrupted on the disk.
So guys,
sometime when i am browsing or doing other stuff it's like windows unplugs my usb-logitech-mouse. it than get riconnected again in few seconds.
I tihnk this is happening after I had to install virtual machines (like: virtualbox and vmware)
I already disinstalled them but this issue is still here.
When this happens even the lights on my mouse are off same behaviour as like somone unplagged it.
What could i do?
Is there a way of stopping Windows Live Mail client repeatedly asking whether I want Outlook Express [sic] to compact my messages?
[p.s. please don't suggest that I jut switch to a different mail client]
I am using a modem (ZTE USB Modem FFF1) to connect to internet and I want it to disconnect automatically after completing 90 MB (Downloaded data + Uploaded Data). Can anyone suggest how can I do this. I am using a desktop computer running on Windows 8 Consumer Preview. There's no router. I am using a dial up connection to connect. I just want to limit the data usage of my internet connection, considering sent data + received data.
It appears that installing Windows 8 on top of XP doesn't give you the option to choose the locale and other settings -- I've got the right keyboard layout restored, and can change the system locale to be for the UK, but there doesn't appear to be any way to change the time zone -- choosing the option to try and change the time zone gives error:

For some bad reason Microsoft decided to remove all standard desktop icons besides the Recyle bin.
It is easy to create shortcuts to each single disk using create shortcut method.
But I would like to have the computer icon too.
I guess there will be an increased demand to create useful shortcuts on Windows 8 Servers Desktop, because the metro surface 'on the backside of your screen' is just impractical.
very similar to: http://superuser.com/questions/111095/sync-google-calendar-with-oulook-calendar-2007
But with one caveat. I'm running Windows 7 and Google Calendar Sync is not compatible. Any ideas on how I can sync my Google and Outlook 2007 calendars?
An application I use regularly is command-line based, and I would like to add the most used commands in the Windows Explorer's context menu that pops up when right-clicking on a file or folder.
From what I read, a lot of programs in that menu are COM applications.
Is there an easier way to add commands to the menu, as an alternative to opening a DOS box and typing commands? Ideally, it should work for XP, Vista, and 7.
I have windows xp installation files on a USB drive using wintoflash. I've downloaded mass storage driverpack and slipstreamed them into the install. when the bootup begins I press f6 at the appropriate screen to enable sata drivers for my harddrive. Then it comes to the partition/harddrive selection screen, I only see my usb flash stick. I'm at my wits end with this problem. I need to install xp.
I had to format a USB hard drive to ext3 to use it with a Linksys nas box. Now I can't read the hd when I unplug it from the nas and plug it directly into my Windows 7 computer. (The computer accesses the nas over a wireless connection, so I like to plug the hd directly into my pc when transferring large files.)
How can I leave the hd formatted with ext3 and yet be able to access it (read/write) when I plug it directly into my pc?
How do I mirror a monitor in Windows Vista?
I do not want to "extend" the desktop to the monitor, but I want the second monitor (a TV in this case) to be an exact copy of the main monitor.
I'm using Outlook on Windows Mobile 6.1 connected to an Exchange server. Even if I check the Sent folder in my synchronization options, the folder always shows up as having no messages. Even emails that I've sent FROM my phone do not show up, leaving me with no way to view those. Anything else I can check or enable to see these messages?
Hi
We have a windows server that has been running for a few years, it has the Java runtime installed, which is purely used for the Dell software. Over the years various updates have been applied filling up the c:\ drive. the updates are about 200Mb each, and there seem to be a few jre.. folder in the Program File/Java folder. Can I delete some of the older ones? any ideas?
I know this question has probably been asked at some point in the past, but I am trying to figure out if Windows 7 supports passing TRIM commands through RAID controllers yet.
I am trying to decide between buying a single SSD drive and utilizing TRIM or
Buying two SSD drives and putting them in RAID 0 configuration
What is the fastest current configuration I can set up?
I want my development machine to be BLAZING fast.
I was given access to a Windows Server 2008 box and I need to check what all permissions I have on that box (if possible in the entire domain). I don't have access to domain controller and I don't want to write LDAP queries but just some GUI option or some command line stuff. Is there anyway?
PS: I am not in to network administration, I am a BI developer. Pardon me if asked a stupid question.
Windows Vista introduced ReadyBoost which lets you use a Flash drive as a third (after RAM and HD) type of memory.
It occurred to me that I could boost peformance on an old PC here w/ Win XP (32 bit, max'd at 4GB RAM) by putting it's swap file (page file) on a flash drive.
(Now, before anyone comments: apparently Flash drives (10-30MB/s transfer rates) are slower than HDD (100+ MB/s) (I'm asking that as a separate question on this forum).
In windows7 how do I request a new dhcp lease ?
What I need in the equivalent of the button "repair" on windows XP. The button "diagnose" seems to do a few things but not request a new dhcp lease if one is already available.
Disabling and re-enabling the card does the trick but messes up any program capturing traffic on the interface.
Hi, I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 and I am looking for a free tool.
I start a number of batch jobs running inside command prompt. I want to shrink them significantly, so that I can see the Window titles only. I usually shrink them by hand and move them to another monitor.
I am looking for a tool that can do that work for me as soon as certain apps start up.
Thanks!
We're having some issues with Windows 7 Roaming profiles and I was reading here that the login process can be monitored using process monitor.
"There are a couple of ways to configure Process Monitor to record
logon operations: one is to use Sysinternals PsExec to launch it in
the session 0 so that it survives the logoff and subsequent logon and
another is to use the boot logging feature to capture activity from
early in the boot, including the logon."
How does one do either of these options using process monitor to find out what is happening during a user login?
Hi,
i have installed a SQL2008 Server developer-Edition on my Dell Precision M90 Notebook with windows Vista, but the service dosen't start.
SQL Server Configuration Manager shows MSSQLSERVER as stopped and an attempt to start this service fails. No entry in eventviewer... where to look?
What might be the reason?
