  • Over Optimistic Daily Productivity

    - by Dan Revell
    I'm a junior developer and have been working since I graduated last summer so coming up to a year now. I have this issue that is starting to get to me. Every night I think back to what I did that day, feel bad that I didn't get as much done as I would have liked and then tick off in my head all the things I'll get done the following day. Come the end of the following day I end haven't gotten through half of what I wanted to. This over optimism that I'm suffering from. Might it be just because I'm relatively new to the profession and aren't aware of how long things will actually take me. The work might be quick to think through in my head but all sorts of time sync's involved can bleed away the hours. If not that then perhaps it's the technology stack that I'm working on. SharePoint isn't the easiest thing to develop for and it's certainly something I came into not knowing a whole lot about. If it's because I'm not yet skilled enough to predict how long things will take me, is this trait of over optimistic predictions universal to the profession? I'd appreciate any input from those experienced with working with younger developers and those that might have suffered from this themselves. [EDIT] Perhaps I worded the question badly. I'm interested in just general day to day work rather than overall project completion estimation.

  • How to fetch particular element from string after splitting it, using XSLT split() ?

    - by Vijay
    Hi All, I have one query regarding XSLT functions. I am using split function to fetch values from a string. I am using separator as "*". e.g. String : {"item1*item2*item3*item4"} split function I am using is as; <xsl:template name="SplitItemsCollection"> <xsl:param name="list" select="''"/> <xsl:param name="separator" select="'*'"/> <xsl:if test="not($list = '' or $separator = '')"> <xsl:variable name="head" select="substring-before(concat($list, $separator), $separator)"/> <xsl:variable name="tail" select="substring-after($list, $separator)"/> <xsl:value-of select="$head"/> <xsl:call-template name="split"> <xsl:with-param name="list" select="$tail"/> <xsl:with-param name="separator" select="$separator"/> </xsl:call-template> </xsl:if> </xsl:template> This function returns me all the items. Is there any way to fetch particular item from these separated items ? Say I want to fetch item3. Can we do it directly ? Thanks in advance.

  • I can't prevent key presses from changing a selected option in Firefox

    - by Anthony
    Using Firefox 3.5.7 The following test page should behave like Opera, Safari and Chrome. Key presses (arrows or 1-5) should have no effect (i.e. The events should be cancelled so that the number never changes from the initial default "3"). [I have separate working code for IE too]. Many thanks to anyone who can make it work? <html> <head> <title>Test</title> <script type='text/JavaScript'> function stop(evt) {evt.preventDefault(); evt.stopPropagation(); }; </script> </head> <body> <select onkeydown='stop(event);' onkeypress='stop(event);'> <option>1</option> <option>2</option> <option selected="selected">3</option> <option>4</option> <option>5</option> </select> </body> </html>

  • Masonry js won't bunch images vertically

    - by user1449737
    The images are being aligned horizontally correctly but they are all spaced out vertically.. Take a look here http://brstudios.co.uk/testing to see what I mean properly.. My mark up is as followed (simplified): <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://masonry.desandro.com/jquery.masonry.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="https://raw.github.com/desandro/imagesloaded/master/jquery.imagesloaded.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var $container = $('.portfolio-container'); $container.imagesLoaded(function(){ $container.masonry({ itemSelector : '.break', columnWidth : 429 }); }); </script> <style type="text/css"> .break { float: left; width: 429px; margin: 10px 20px; } </style> </head> <body> <div class="portfolio-container"> <?php do { ?> <div class="break"> // Contents taken from MySQL // </div> <?php } while ($row_displayPosts = mysql_fetch_assoc($displayPosts)); ?> </div> </body> </html> I think part of it is working but as you can see by the link provided it isn't moving the elements together vertically. Does anyone have any pointers?

    - by Baskaran
    I need to zoom frame content only. Here in my web page I used zoom: 0.75; height: 520px; width: 800px;. If I increase the zoom value it means that the frame size will be increased. <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE> New Document </TITLE> <STYLE> #frame { width: 800px; height: 520px; border: 1px solid black; } #frame { zoom: 0.75; -moz-transform: scale(0.75); -moz-transform-origin: 0 0; } </STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY> <IFRAME id="frame" src="http://www.google.com"></IFRAME> </BODY> </HTML> In the above sample HTML page I want to zoom the content of the IFRAME without changing the size of that IFRAME.

  • jQuery + External javascript: How to embed videoplayer in div

    - by Dennis
    I just started with jQuery and so far I have a really good impression of the framework. But now I have a problem that I can't figure out on myself. I want to embed an external javascript file that loads a videoplayer and displays it. If I include the <script>...</script> directly in HTML it loads just fine. But when I try to load it with jQuery it has very different behaviors in several browsers but it doesn't work in a single one. Either the player is not loaded at all or it doesn't update the selected div but reloads the player on a blank page. This is the source: <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> div#test { width: 100%; height: 500px; margin: 10px auto; padding: 5px; border: 1px solid #777; background-color: #fbca93; text-align: center; } </style> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ var video = "<script type=\'text\/javascript\' src=\'http:\/\/www.physicalfitnet.com\/video_syndication\/embed\/jssingle.aspx?vid=651&pub=9DF8233261D101B86368400385B8FF2E\'><\/script>"; $("div#test").html(video); }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="test"> Hi</div> </body> </html> I uploaded everything to http://kernast.de/test ... any help is appreciated. • Query about running a program through valgrind and getting false results comparing to other systems.

    - by FILIaS
    Yesterday i posted this: What's the problem with this code? [hashtable in C] and paxdiablo offered to help me. He posted a sample of code and asked me to run it through valgrind on my machine. This code normally generates: 12,4 But on my machine, i get 24,8. The doubled! I'm just curious why is that happening. Hope sb has a good explaination. I post also paxdiablo's code (for anyone who cant find it.) #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> typedef struct HashTable { int size ; struct List *head; struct List *tail; } HashTable; typedef struct List { char *number; char *name; int time; struct List *next; } List; #define size_of_table 211 HashTable *createHashTable(void) { HashTable *new_table = malloc(sizeof(*new_table)*size_of_table); //line 606 printf ("%d\n", sizeof(*new_table)); printf ("%d\n", sizeof(new_table)); if (new_table == NULL) { return NULL; } int i=0; for(i; i<size_of_table; i++) { new_table[i].size=0; new_table[i].head=NULL; new_table[i].tail=NULL; } return new_table; } int main(void) { HashTable *x = createHashTable(); free (x); return 0; }

  • Perl 500 internal server error. Something wrong with my code.

    I get a 500 internal server error when I try to run the code below in a web server which supports perl: #! /usr/bin/perl use LWP; my $ua = LWP::UserAgent->new; $ua->agent("TestApp/0.1 "); $ua->env_proxy(); my $req = HTTP::Request->new(POST => 'http://www.google.com/loc/json'); $req->content_type('application/jsonrequest'); $req->content('{ "cell_towers": [{"location_area_code": "55000", "mobile_network_code": "95", "cell_id": "20491", "mobile_country_code": "404"}], "version": "1.1.0", "request_address": "true"}'); my $res = $ua->request($req); if ($res->is_success) { print $res->content,"\n"; } else { print $res->status_line, "\n"; return undef; } But there is no error when I run the code below: #! /usr/bin/perl use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser); print "Content-type: text/html\n\n"; print "<HTML>\n"; print "<HEAD><TITLE>Hello World!</TITLE></HEAD>\n"; print "<BODY>\n"; print "<H2>Hello World!</H2> <br /> \n"; foreach $key (sort keys(%ENV)) { print "$key = $ENV{$key}<p>" ; } print "</BODY>\n"; print "</HTML>\n"; So I think there is some problem with my code.   • perl - converting a date into a string

    - by Jason
    I need to convert a date to a string, the date is entered as 07/04/2010 and should then read July 4th 2010. It should also be able to be entered using singe digits instead of double (7 instead of 07, and it needs to add the 20 to the year if the user enters only /10) This is what I have so far - #!/usr/bin/perl use CGI qw(:standard); use strict; #declare variables my ($date, $month, $day, $year); my @months = ("January", "February", "March", "April", "May", "June", "July", "August", "September", "October", "November", "December"); #assign input item to variable $date = param('Date'); #break date apart $date =~ /([0-9]{1,2})\/([0-9]{1,2})\/([0-9]{2,2}|20[0-9]{2,2})/; $month = $1; $day = $2; $year = $3; unless($year =~ /20[0-9]{2,2}/){ $year = "20".$year; } $date = $months[int($1)]." ".$day.", ".$year; #display date print "<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>The Date</TITLE></HEAD>\n"; print "<BODY>\n"; print "The date is: $date\n"; print "</BODY></HTML>\n"; However I keep getting errors Use of uninitialized value in pattern match (m//) at c08ex6.cgi line 14. • Load javascript in app engine

    - by user624392
    I got so confused loading javascript in app engine. I am using django template. In my base html file. First I can't load my downloaded jquery from local say d:/jquery.js like <script src="d:\jquery.js" type="text/javascript" ></script></head>, This line is in my base html file. It works when I load jquery from remote. Like <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.1/jquery.min.js"type="text/javascript" ></script></head> I dont know why. Second, I can't load my own-created javascript to my html file, say I create a javascript like layout. Js and I try to load it like this in my child html file, which, by the way, inherits from the base html. <body><script src="layout.js" type="text/javascript"></script></body>, And it doesn't work at all, the only way it works I have tried is that I put the actual javascript in the body of my base html file. Like <body><script> $(document).ready( $("#yes"). Click(function() { $("#no"). Hide("slow"); })); </script> I dont know why either... Any help?

    I am unable to get the borders of these td's to follow their rows as I scroll through this overflow:auto; . Any ideas on a fix? Note: Setting table-layout:fixed or making rows display:block isn't an option as the rows will lose their fluidity.. You can see the issue in the latest Firefox, so I assume it's messed up elsewhere. • How do I make an iframe 100% height of a containing div in Firefox?

    - by David
    I'm having some trouble figuring out how to extend an iframe to 100% of it's container element in Firefox and IE (it works fine in Chrome). From searching around, it makes sense that there has to be a width specified on the containing div (and possibly body and html as well). However, I have done that, and the iframe is still not extending. Do all of the parent divs have to have a specified width and position for this to work, or just the containing parent? Any fix for this would be greatly appreciated! Here's what I have: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <style> html, body {margin:0; padding:0; height:100%} #container {width: 1000px; min-height: 550px; position: relative} #smallContainer {position:relative} /*no width specified*/ #iframeContainer {height: 100%; position: relative} #iframe {height: 100%; width: 100%; display: block} </style> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="smallContainer"> <div id="iframeContainer"> <iframe id="iframe" src="foo.com"></iframe> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html>
