  • Private WCF Web Service

    - by Bram
I'm kind of a newb to WCF Web Services and have created a service. Here is what I'm after: If someone vists http://somesite.com/Poo.svc they are rejected straight off the bat (404 or something) Only I can add a reference to the service in VS. What I'm after is making the WCF service totally private. Any ideas?

  • Can anyone explain me the source code of python "import this"?

    - by byterussian
If you open a Python interpreter, and type "import this", as you know, it prints: The Zen of Python, by Tim Peters Beautiful is better than ugly. Explicit is better than implicit. Simple is better than complex. Complex is better than complicated. Flat is better than nested. Sparse is better than dense. Readability counts. Special cases aren't special enough to break the rules. Although practicality beats purity. Errors should never pass silently. Unless explicitly silenced. In the face of ambiguity, refuse the temptation to guess. There should be one-- and preferably only one --obvious way to do it. Although that way may not be obvious at first unless you're Dutch. Now is better than never. Although never is often better than *right* now. If the implementation is hard to explain, it's a bad idea. If the implementation is easy to explain, it may be a good idea. Namespaces are one honking great idea -- let's do more of those! In the python source(Lib/this.py) this text is generated by a curios piece of code: s = """Gur Mra bs Clguba, ol Gvz Crgref Ornhgvshy vf orggre guna htyl. Rkcyvpvg vf orggre guna vzcyvpvg. • Password Validation

    - by Humpton
Hi there. Using mysql and php Is there any reason / value when checking a password to query the database using the user name and password (after sanitizing, of course) and recording a failed attempt when no rows are returned vs querying the database using the user name and then comparing the return password string? EDIT: To those who mentioned it below, yes the password is hashed up in the database.

  • Any chance to get Core Data using Tokyo Cabinet as the persistent store?

    - by dontWatchMyProfile
I watched a free high quality video with Aaron Hillegass about Core Data vs Tokyo Cabinet. Besides that this guy is amazingly funny (really, if you want to laugh now, watch it!), he shows off Tokyo Cabinet beeing about 40x faster than Core Data. I wonder if it's worth thinking about how to attach this to Core Data? Does that make any sense? Maybe as a custom atomic store or something like this?

  • Stateful EJBs in web application?

    - by Sebastien Lorber
Hello I never used stateful EJBs. I understand that a stateful EJB can be useful with a java client. But i wonder: in which case to use them on a web application? And how? Should we put these stateful beans in Session (because of stateless http)? Is it a good practice? (without debating too much about stateful vs stateless)

  • Visual Studio Formatting -- Change Method Color

    - by Daniel
The default appearance of a method for example, ".ToString()" is by default the color black. I want to make it a different color to stand out but I do not see any options that reference this option specifically. I remember one of former collegues showing me his VS IDE years ago and he had it setup this way but I cannot recall what he did. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

  • SQUID Proxy - does it have an interface for reviewing internet usage?

    - by Greg
Hi Does SQUID (for Windows specifically) it have an interface for reviewing internet usage? More specifically if I wanted a way to track, for my PC at work, it's internet usage on a per application/service basis (e.g. browser vs calendar synch service etc), would SQUID for Windows help me here? (i.e. would it act as a transparent proxy for anything running on my PC, then keep a history of internet usage against which process requested the access)

  • Squid change cache key

    - by Ken Struys
Lets say you want to serve different content from the same url but still want to be able to use squid caching. For example caching a logged in users homepage vs another user. Is there anyway to append a cookie to the request url before throwing it into the squid's cache?

  • Basic Hibernate Caching Question

    - by manyxcxi
Doe Hibernate use cache (second level or otherwise) if all I am doing is batch inserts? No entities are being requested from the database, and no generators are used. Also, would StatelessSession vs Session change the answer? What if I was using a Session with a JDBC batch size of 50? The cache I will be using is Ehcache

  • How do I debug an ASP.NET web service in Visual Studio?

    - by Ben McCormack
I have an ASP.NET .ASMX web service that I converted to .NET 4.0 with VS 2010 and is hosted in an IIS 7.5 (Windows 7) application pool. I have a simple html page that I use to make the AJAX request to the web service. How can I debug what's going on in the web service in Visual Studio? Because the HTML ajax request doesn't seem "tied in" to the web service, which is located on my local IIS service, I can't figure out how to debug it.

  • Local help not working in Visual Studio 2005

The local help in Visual Studio 2005 never comes back with anything. Also, if I'm not connected to the Internet, of course I get nothing. When I run dexplore eventually it takes 100% of cpu. Also, the F1 help doesn't work (of course). I've repaired both VS 2005, MSDN in other orders. Any help will be appreciated! THanks -tim
