  • Reimplementing data structures in the real world

    The topic of algorithms class today was reimplementing data structures, specifically ArrayList in Java. The fact that you can customize a structure for in various ways definitely got me interested, particularly with variations of add() & iterator.remove() methods. But is reimplementing and customizing a data structure something that is of more interest to the academics vs the real-world programmers? Has anyone reimplemented their own version of a data structure in a commercial application/program, and why did you pick that route over your particular language's implementation?

  • How to Instantiate ObjectFrame in VB.NET

    I am trying to reach methods and properties of ObjectFrame through vb.net. But when I declared this as Dim objOLEObject As ObjectFrame and then trying to instantiate it as ObjOLEObject = New ObjectFrame it shows error like: "429: Retriveing the COM class factory for component with CLSID {3806e95d-e47c-11-cd-8701-00aa003f0f7} failed due to the following error: 80040154" To resolve this we re-installed both MS-Office 2003 and VS-2005, but could not get the solution. Could anyone suggest me how to declare and use this in vb.net? Thanks.

What are your favorite Visual Studio keyboard remappings? Mine are motivated by the fact that I'm a touch-typist. Mouse, function keys, arrow keys, Home, End -- bleh. These are commands I do all day every day, so I've remapped them to sequences I can execute without moving my hands from the home row. The command that is remapped in Tools = Customize = [Keyboard] is shown in parentheses. I'm 100% positive that there are better remappings than these, so please post yours!     I'm in the process of settings up a website (I'm using DJango) to begin selling some toys I build and need a way of calculating shipping costs for my customers. Are there any (preferably free) shipping calculators which accept a customers address and return the cost for different delivery companies / delivery options? It would be nice if the API could indicate cost vs delivery time. We'll be shipping world-wide if that makes a difference?

When you click on the black little arrow ON the control itself, the datasource, displaymember and valumember are set. I run my app and see [editvalue is null] in the actual control?   • ASP.NET MVC Project and the App_Code folder

    How come App_Code is not a choices in the Add ASP.NET Folder submenu in the VS solution explorer? I realize you can create one yourself manually by just renaming a New Folder, but what is the rational here? Is this not where you are supposed to put "utility" or "service layer" type classes? On a MVC project side note. I do like the fact that there is a reference to System.Configuration out-of-the-box unlike the default ASP.NET Web Form Projects.

    hi- i'm following the instructions on how to build a custom search provider for windows federated search: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd742956(v=VS.85) i'm returning local results of the form: File://C:\Users\user\file.txt however, when i perform a search, i get results that say: "This item was blocked because of your Internet security settings". how can i change my security settings so that federated search will allow my customer search provider to return local filesystem results? thanks.
