  • how to write to an xml file using flex

    - by Gaurav
    Hi all, I have an application which takes live data from internet, I want to develop another application which reads data from the internet and writes it to an XML file (i.e. I want to save the state in an XML file). THE ONLY THING I NEED IS HOW TO WRITE THIS DATA IN AN XML FILE. FOR EXAMPLE say I have a combo box which takes top 10 fifa world cup watching sites, now I want to write this information (i.e. whatever the data this combo box takes as input into an xml file). I want the answer in flex only. And I don't want answer in AIR. Thankyou in advance.

  • Converting a string into a CheckBox

    - by Chris
    I have a string which is ultimately the id of a CheckBox. What I need to be able to do is to access the CheckBox's properties from the string var myCheckBox:Object; var myString:String; myString = "checkbox_1" myCheckBox = Object(myString); ?!?! ... and then I'd need to get to myCheckBox.selected, and myCheckBox.label etc

  • UIComponent in Swc

    - by mustISignUp
    In Flash, if i create a custom Movieclip, and compile it to a SWC, i can use it in .fla files (by linking to the .swc).. var mcInstance = new CustomMovieClip(); addChild(mcInstance); All the arrangement of graphics on the custom movieClip's layers is preserved. If i subclass UIComponent and compile to a swc, I can use the custom Class in my .fla file, but the new instance doesn't seem to construct the children arranged on the layers. I know that the correct way to make a custom component is to have the two frames, first to specify bounding box, second frame for assets, and that the first graphic in frame 1 is removed at runtime. But i'm not really trying to make a reusable component - i just want to use the UIComponent class (It seems to have some nice extensions to Sprite). As i really want some hand-positioned layers inside the component i figured i could have the bounding box as the first element on frame 1 (knowing that it would be removed), but any other items i put on frame 1 would be preserved - buttons, images, lines, etc. Is this possible?

  • Best Practices for Internationalizing a Flex Appliaction?

    - by rgould
    I am looking into internationalizing a Flex application I am working on and I am curious if there are any best practices or recommendations for doing so. Googling for such information results in a handful of small articles and blog posts, each about doing it differently, and the advantages and disadvantages are not exactly clear. Edited to narrow scope: Need to support only two languages (en_CA and fr_CA) Need to be able to switch at runtime

  • AS 2.0 - Passing xml file path as a flashvars in onClipEvent

    - by Anaya
    Hi, I want to pass xml file path dynamically using flashvars. It works ok in Onrollover and Onrollout events. But not in onClipEvent. Below is the code I am using - onClipEvent (load) { cnetXML = new XML(); cnetXML.ignoreWhite = true; cnetXML.onLoad=extractData; var xmlfile = xmlpath; cnetXML.load(xmlfile); function extractData(success) { rootHandler=this.firstChild.childNodes[23].childNodes[5].firstChild.nodeValue; if (rootHandler) gotoAndStop(2); } } If I replace xmlpath in above script with actual link, it works ok. Please let me know what I am missing here? Thanks in advance for your time! Kind Regards

  • RegExpValidator never matches

    - by babyangel86
    Hi, I've got a class that's meant to validate input fields to make sure the value is always a decimal. I've tested the regex here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=validators_7.html, and it looks like it does the right thing, but in my app, I can't seem to get it to match to a number format. Class Definition: public class DecimalValidator { //------------------------------- ATTRIBUTES public var isDecimalValidator:RegExpValidator; //------------------------------- CONSTRUCTORS public function DecimalValidator() { isDecimalValidator = new RegExpValidator(); isDecimalValidator.expression = "^-?(\d+\.\d*|\.\d+)$"; isDecimalValidator.flags = "g"; isDecimalValidator.required = true; isDecimalValidator.property = "text"; isDecimalValidator.triggerEvent = FocusEvent.FOCUS_OUT; isDecimalValidator.noMatchError = "Float Expected"; } } Setting the source here: public function registerDecimalInputValidator(inputBox:TextInput, valArr:Array):void { // Add Validators var dValidator:DecimalValidator = new DecimalValidator(); dValidator.isDecimalValidator.source = inputBox; dValidator.isDecimalValidator.trigger = inputBox; inputBox.restrict = "[0-9].\\.\\-"; inputBox.maxChars = 10; valArr.push(dValidator.isDecimalValidator); } And Calling it here: registerDecimalInputValidator(textInput, validatorArr); Where textInput is an input box created earlier. Clearly I'm missing something simple yet important, but I'm not entirely sure what! Any help would be much appreciated.

  • More HTTP verbs with AS3?

    - by tedw4rd
    I'm developing a social game in Flash with a team of developers. Our server-side guy has developed a really slick RESTful API for the Flash client to talk to. A lot of the client-server interactions involve adding and removing objects from a persistent world, so the API makes extensive use of the PUT and DELETE verbs. The problem is, the URLRequest object in AS3 only supports the GET and POST verbs. We're on a strict schedule, and we'd really rather not have to rewrite the whole API to just use GET and POST. Has anyone come up with a good way to get Flash to send other verbs?

  • Flash automatically names objects on stage "instance#"

    - by meowMIX3R
    Hi, I have 2 TLF text boxes already placed on my main stage. In the property inspector window I give these the instance names: "txt1" and "txt2". I am trying to have a single mouseup event, and figure out which text box it occurred on. My document class has the following code: package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.KeyboardEvent; public class SingleEvent extends Sprite{ public function SingleEvent() { // constructor code root.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, textChanged,false,0,true); } private function textChanged(e:KeyboardEvent){ trace(e.target.name); trace(" " + e.target); switch(e.target){ case txt1: trace("txt1 is active"); break; case txt2: trace("txt2 is active"); break; default: break; } } } } Example output is: instance15 [object Sprite] instance21 [object Sprite] Since the objects are already on the stage, I am not sure how to get flash to recognize them as "txt1" and "txt2" instead of "instance#". I tried setting the .name property, but it had no effect. In the publish settings, I have "Automatically declare stage instances" checked. Also, is it possible to have a single change event for multiple slider components? The following never fires: root.addEventListener(SliderEvent.CHANGE, sliderChanged,false,0,true); Thanks for any tips

  • How to pass a property to an event with a Button

    - by Tam
    I'm generating buttons dynamically that I want it to call a method like this: private function fetchTheDay(day:String):void { ... } But I wasn't sure how to make the button pass the string to it button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,fetchTheDay); buttonVGroup.addElement(button); trying to do something like this didn't work: button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,fetchTheDay(myString)); How should I do this?

  • How can I call a function in a parent movieclip from an externally-loaded child?

    - by Doug Wolfgram
    I have a swf file that is my 'shell' program that contains many functions. This shell program loads child movies. In the root timeline of the child movie, I have the following code: function putresponse(q,r) { trace (r); _root.debug(r); } _root.debug("foo"); Debug is a function that writes some text to the screen. When I run this locally, the putresponse function gets called and the trace happens. When I run it remotely (inside the shell) the first debug happens immediately on load (as you'd expect) but then later when putresponse is called, the debug(r) is not executed. The external clip is at the same url as the shell so I don't think it is a security issue. Also, as I said, the debug("foo") works fine. This one really has me perplexed. Can anyone shed some light as to why I can't call the debug from _root when called from a function rather than on the first-level timeline? EDIT: The call to putresponse is coming form two layers deep in local (within the child MC) MCs. The actual call is: _parent._parent.putrepsonse(q,r);

  • DisplayObject not being displayed in AS3

    - by MarkSteve
    I have this class: public class IskwabolText extends Sprite { private var _tf:TextField; private var _tfmt:TextFormat; private var _size:Number; private var _text:String; public function IskwabolText(params:Object) { var defaultParams:Object = { color: 0x000000, background: false, backgroundColor: 0xFFFFFF, width: 0, height: 0, multiline: false, wordWrap: false }; // textfield _tf = new TextField(); _tf.antiAliasType = 'advanced'; _tf.embedFonts = true; _tf.type = 'dynamic'; _tf.selectable = false; // textformat _tfmt = new TextFormat(); set(defaultParams); set(params); } public function get(param:String):Object { switch (param) { case 'size': return _tfmt.size; case 'text': return _tf.text; case 'font': return _tfmt.font; case 'color': return _tfmt.color; case 'background': return _tf.background; case 'backgroundColor': return _tf.backgroundColor; case 'width': return _tf.width; case 'height': return _tf.height; case 'multiline': return _tf.multiline; case 'wordWrap': return _tf.multiline; default: return this[param]; } return null; } public function set(params:Object):Object { for (var i:String in params) { setParam(i, params[i]); } redraw(); return this; } private function setParam(param:String, value:Object):Object { switch (param) { case 'size': _tfmt.size = new String(value); break; case 'text': _tf.text = new String(value); break; case 'font': _tfmt.font = new String(value); break; case 'color': _tfmt.color = new uint(value); break; case 'background': _tf.background = new Boolean(value); break; case 'backgroundColor': _tf.backgroundColor = new uint(value); break; case 'width': _tf.width = new Number(value); break; case 'height': _tf.height = new Number(value); break; case 'multiline': _tf.multiline = new Boolean(value); break; case 'wordWrap': _tf.multiline = new Boolean(value); break; default: this[param] = value; break; } return this; } private function redraw():void { _tf.setTextFormat(_tfmt); if (contains(_tf)) removeChild(_tf); if (_tf.width == 0) _tf.width= _tf.textWidth+5; _tf.height = _tf.textHeight; addChild(_tf); } } But when I do this: public class Main extends Sprite { public function Main() { addChild(new IskwabolText({ size: 100, text: 'iskwabol', font: 'Default', // this is properly embedded color: 0x000000, x: stage.stageWidth / 2 - this.width / 2, y: 140 })); } } The child IskwabolText doesn't get displayed. What happening?

  • visibility false, XML, as3

  • How to explain to client that you can't give them some of the source

    - by Bo
    We have a number of AS/Flex components that we've built over time and improved upon. They've been turned into components so they can be reused in different projects and save us time. So you can think of them as part of an in-house framework of sorts. We're now realizing that it doesn't make sense to release the source code for these components to the various clients as part of the project, because technically this code isn't really owned by the clients. So my question When a client comes to you, how do you explain to them that you can't give them the full source code for those components. The client doesn't understand the difference, he just expects you to give them all the code for the site that he paid you to do. He doesn't understand that this code has taken you a lot longer to write than what he's paying for his site. But since he doesn't understand, he would get turned off and thinks you're ripping him off or something. How do you handle this situation? What do you tell clients upfront? Do you advertise it on your site from the very beginning? How do you handle their objections so they still hire you? As a side question, how often do you give AS and Flex source code to your clients? In the case when the code doesn't have any in-house components that you reuse in several projects, and in the case when it does have in-house components.
