Messages so inane, so pointless, you might as well have written "magical fun bus" in their place (of this, I am guilty), as it would be, perhaps, more descriptive. • Can IDL evaluate strings as code?

  Is there any functionality in IDL that will allow it to evaluate a a string as code? Or, failing that, is there a nice, dynamic way of including /KEYWORD in functions? For example, if I wanted to ask them for what type of map projection the user wants, is there a way to do it nicely, without large if/case statements for the /Projection_Type keyword it needs? With even a small number of user options, the combinations would cause if/case statements to get out of hand very quickly to handle all the possible options.

The answer I'm going to supply took me a while to piece together, but it still seems hopelessly primitive and hacky compared to what one could do were completion to be redesigned to be less staticky. • Java, user input to the command line when using Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);

  I dont think this is possible, but I have been using: Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command); to run commands on the command line, but now I have come accross a situation where the command I am running part way through will ask for some user input, for example a username. This can not be resolved by a argument to the command that is being exec, is there any way I can pass the username to the same command line instance and continue? Thanks in advance.

In several places I found descriptions like this: "What’s special about I/O actions is that if they fall into the main function, they are performed." • Does using magic_quotes() affect the use of mysql_real_escape_string()

  If I have magic_quotes switched on and I use mysql_real_escape_string, will the tring be double escaped? Will it cause problems? I assume so based on the get_magic_quotes() function but just seeking confirmation. • Does anybody actually use the permissions policy controls in tomcat?

  While I can appreciate the point of the fine granularity in which you can enable security for every single little thing for each individual application in tomcat, in reality, it's an insane pain in the ass. Every single file, socket, everything for every single application. Sure if you're writing a "hello world" application, it's not too much to ask, but an enterprise sized application? That's insane. Does anybody actually use it, or does everybody just say "*" for everything?

  hi, I have specified textSize="3mm" but when I run the code on the droid the text is much smaller. I looks like the size has been specified in px. I am using minSdk=4 and anydensity = "true". So it seems like if I ask for 3mm I should get 3mm, right? Thanks in advance.

  If you have a bean with a getFoo method, how does whatever framework you're using know how to call the getFoo method when you ask for the value of foo? Is this done using the reflection API?   How do I kill a process which is running in bash - for example, suppose I open a file: $ gedit file.txt is there any way within the command prompt to close it? This example is fairly trivial, since I could just close the window, but it seems to come up a bit, particularly when I mistype commands. Also is there any way to escape an executable which is running? This probably has the same solution, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks

Does anyone know what those are and how one can access them to test various code optimizations?
