  • How to create a server control on another ASPX file

    - by salvationishere
I am developing a C#/SQL ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. Currently, I am transferring control from one ASPX file to another: if (uploadFile.PostedFile.ContentLength > 0) { inputfile = System.IO.File.ReadAllText(path); Context.Items["Message"] = inputfile; //Page1 Server.Transfer("DataMatch.aspx"); //Page1 } However, it fails on this Server.Transfer line after inserting runat="server" in the DataMatch.aspx file to the Table element like so: <table width="50%" id="tMain" runat="server"> But after making this a server control, I rebuilt it and now when I run this app it gives me exception: Error executing child request for DataMatch.aspx But I need this table to be a server control so I can make it invisible programmatically if a certain condition occurs. How else can I programmatically make this table invisible?

  • How do i sign variables?

    - by acidzombie24
I have a few variables that must be stored on the client side. As usual anything on client side can be tampered. I would like to sign a few variables and verified them when the data is sent back to the server. At the moment i think they are 5 64bit vars. On the server i would like to sign those 5 variables, then ensure the signature is valid when the client sends it back. How do i do this using C# .NET?

  • WPF Skin Skinning Security Concerns

    - by Erik Philips
I'm really new to the WPF in the .Net Framework (get that out of the way). I'm writing an application where the interface is very customizable by simply loading .xaml (at the moment a Page element) files into a frame and then mapping the controls via names as needed. The idea is to have a community of people who are interested in making skins, skin my application however they want (much like Winamp). Now the question arises, due to my lack of Xaml knowledge, is it possible to create malicious Xaml pages that when downloaded and used could have other embedded Iframes or other elements that could have embed html or call remote webpages with malicious content? I believe this could be the case. If this is the case then I two options; either I have an automated process that can remove these types of Xaml files by checking it’s elements prior to allowing download (which I would assume would be most difficult) or have a human review them prior to download. Are there alternatives I’m unaware of that could make this whole process a lot easier?

  • Building a case for solr

    - by Midhat
Our product consists of multiple applications, All using Lucene. 2 of the applications I am involved with have Lucene indexes of about 3 GB and 12GB. Another team is building an application, for which they estimate the LUCENE INDEX size to be close to 1 Terabyte. New documents are added to the indexes every 15 days approx. We do not have any apparent performance issues with the current applications. So my question is SHould we be using Solr now? When should one stop using Lucene and graduate to Solr? Any disadvantages/problems for using Solr? The client applications are made in ASP.Net, but I assume they will be able to use a solr server using solrnet

  • System.IndexOutOfRange Exception Sending Gridview Values to DataTable

    - by SidC
Hello, I am writing an ASP.NET 3.5 application and need to send gridview values to a datatable for use in a listbox control as part of a quote process. I have written the following VB code in my Page_Load: Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim dtSelParts As DataTable = New DataTable("dtSelParts") Dim column As DataColumn = New DataColumn column.ColumnName = "PartName" column.ColumnName = "PartNumber" column.ColumnName = "Quantity" dtSelParts.Columns.Add(column) For Each row As GridViewRow In MySearch.Rows Dim drSelParts As DataRow drSelParts = dtSelParts.NewRow() For i As Integer = 0 To row.Cells.Count - 1 drSelParts(i) = row.Cells(i).Text Next Next End Sub When I run the partsearch.aspx page, I enter values in the row textbox for parts I want included in the listbox (to be included in quote). However, I receive the error message System.Index.OutOfRangeException: Cannot find column 1 which occurs on the line drSelParts(i) = row.Cells(i).Text. How might I correct the code and resolve the error? Thanks, Sid

  • Create a Font using strings pulled from a string table.

    - by Matthew Smith
I am writing a tool to create an otf or ttc with only characters defined in our localized string table, so we can cut down memory usage. I already have the information for the Japanese characters we are using but I am unable to find an example of creating a new font based around these characters. Does anyone know of a good example or even the interface I can access to do this? I am working in C# with .NET 3.5. I am looking into Volt and TTOasm from Microsoft, but I am not sure if they will do exactly what I need. Any information is appreciated. Thanks, Matt Smith

  • GetDC() DllImport for x64 apps

    - by devdept
If you make a little research on the internet you'll see many DLLImport styles for this user32.dll function: HDC GetDC(HWND hWnd); The question is: what type is more appropriate for .NET x64 apps (either compiled with the Platform target as AnyCPU on a x64 machine or specifically as x64)? IntPtr for example grows to a size of 8 on a x64 process, can this be a problem? Is uint more appropriate than Uint64? What is the size of the pointers this function uses when used in a x64 process? The DLL is called user32.dll does it work as 32bit or 64bit on a x64 operating system? [DllImport("user32.dll",EntryPoint="GetDC")] public static extern IntPtr GetDC(IntPtr hWnd); public static extern uint GetDC(uint hWnd); public static extern int GetDC(int hWnd); Thanks!

  • cant get my listbox to display objects

    - by Silvia Stoyanova
Hello everyone I've been trying to put some objects in an ASP.NET list box but its just not working. I do have an overriden ToString method so I cant understand why this statement wont work. Here's the code that I use: for (int i = 0; i < fitnessClassList.Count(); i++) { lbDisplayItems.Items.Add(fitnessClassList.getFitnessClass(i)); } And the errors that I get: Error 2 Argument 1: cannot convert from 'FitnessClassManager.FitnessClassOpportunity' to 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListItem' Error 1 The best overloaded method match for 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListItemCollection.Add(System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListItem)' has some invalid arguments

    I am using the Rest Singleton WCF Service temple from the Rest Starter Kit. The temples uses sample item as its sample Item. i am attempting to replace that sample ITem with a custom type from web reference in my ASP.Net project .dll. The types and name spaces are found and i can replace the sample item in the code. when i run the application i get this error: "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation." when this line is executed "return new SingletonServiceHost(serviceType, baseAddresses);" <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true" Service="SAUDServices.Service" Factory="SAUDServices.AppServiceHostFactory"%> using System; using System.ServiceModel; using System.ServiceModel.Activation; using Microsoft.ServiceModel.Web.SpecializedServices; using Stretchatyourdesk; namespace SAUDServices { class AppServiceHostFactory : ServiceHostFactory { protected override ServiceHost CreateServiceHost(Type serviceType, Uri[] baseAddresses) { return new SingletonServiceHost(serviceType, baseAddresses); } } }

  • Get clientid in user control from external javascript file

    - by Giorgi
Hello, I am developing a user control (ascx) in ASP.NET which uses javascript for manipulating controls. Currently the javascript code is inlined and uses <%= somecontrol.ClientID %> to get the control it needs. I want to put the javascript file in external file but from external file I cannot use the above syntax for retrieving controls. I have read about possible solutions in this and this answers but the problem is that the user control can be placed multiple times on page. This means that the Controls array (mentioned in the answers) will be rendered several times with different items. As a result the script will not be able to retrieve the id it needs. If I put <%= ClientId %> in the name of array that holds items then I will have the same problem as I am trying to solve. Any ideas?

  • sOperator as and generic classes

    - by abatishchev
I'm writing .NET On-the-Fly compiler for CLR scripting and want execution method make generic acceptable: object Execute() { return type.InvokeMember(..); } T Execute<T>() { return Execute() as T; /* doesn't work: The type parameter 'T' cannot be used with the 'as' operator because it does not have a class type constraint nor a 'class' constraint */ // also neither typeof(T) not T.GetType(), so on are possible return (T) Execute(); // ok } But I think operator as will be very useful: if result type isn't T method will return null, instead of an exception! Is it possible to do?

  • SharePoint Custom Application Page does not recognize tagPrefix defined in custom web.config

    - by Hasan Khan
I have a custom application page integrated in Centeral Administration. My application pages are placed in a subfolder in Template\Admin folder. I placed my own web.config in my subfolder and added tagPrefixes in the control section. However when I open my application page ASP.NET throws the exception that the tag SharePoint:InputFormTextBox was not recognized. Moving the add tagprefix statements in root web.config solves the problem but thats not acceptable in my case and I can't define them in individual pages either. What am I doing wrong? Or it doesn't work this way? What can i do to achieve this?

  • Setting up a SQL Membership Provider and attaching the MDF file in Visual Studio 2008

    - by aubreyrhodes
I'm trying to set up a SQL Membership Provider for an ASP.NET MVC 1.0 and I'm having problems setting up the tables and stored procedures in the database. I've tried attaching both the applications current database and a blank database to my local SQLEXPRESS instance (using SSEUtil) and then running the aspnet_regsql wizard against them. When I detach the mdf file and try to load it in Visual Studio 2008, the data connection in the server explorer shows that the database has no tables or stored procedures. Am I missing a step or something here? I've been having a heap of trouble with compatibility between Visual Studio and SQLEXPRESS.

  • MVC and positional parameters in a query string

    - by Pete Nelson
This is more of a question to satisfy my curiosity vs something I really need answered. Back in ASP.NET WebForms, I'd occasionally use a positional parameter in a query string if I only had to pass one thing to a page. For example: http://localhost/site/MyPage.aspx?ABCD1234 Then my code would look like this: string accountNumber = ""; if (Request.QueryString.Count > 0) accountNumber = Request.QueryString[0]; In MVC, can you pass a positional query string parameter to a controller method instead of accessing it through Request.QueryString?

  • Webservice won't accept JSON requests

    - by V-Man
Hi, The main issue is that I cannot run a webservice that accepts requests in JSON format. I keep getting a 500 Server error stating that the "request format is invalid." My ASP.NET AJAX extensions are installed. My server is running Plesk Control Panel 8.6 which is undoubtedly causing these problems. The default handler for this specified extension is shown in the web.config like so: For my applications webservice to handle JSON it needs to have this reference: <add name="ScriptHandlerFactory" verb="*" path="*.asmx" preCondition="integratedMode" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/> Plesk is not allowing the request to be handled properly. I need to know the correct http directive(s) to put into the web.config to properly handle JSON webservices. I tried posting to the Plesk forum two days ago but no response yet. Any insight would be great =)

  • Syntax to change the value of a cached object property

    - by Craig
In an ASP.NET 3.5 VB web app, I successfully manage to cache an object containing several personal details such as name, address, etc. One of the items is CreditNum which I'd like to change in the cache on the fly. Is there a way to access this directly in the cache or do I have to destroy and rebuild the whole object just to change the value of objMemberDetails.CreditNum? The cache is set using: Public Shared Sub CacheSet(ByVal key As String, ByVal value As Object) Dim userID As String = HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name HttpContext.Current.Cache(key & "_" & userID) = value End Sub

  • worker process in IIS shared hosting

    - by Akshat Goel
Can anyone tell me, is there a way to run a process in IIS shared hosting service. Suppose, the scenario is like "I want to send emails to a list of email id's after everywhere 3 hrs", so the challenge here is the process should not be invoked by a HTTP link. It should be automatic. I think we can do this by IIS worker processes. Also this all will be happening on a shared server(like GoDaddy) in IIS7, .NET 3.5 Please anyone give me a direction. Thanks in advance.

  • Alternative to Microsoft Agent / Fix for color issue?

    - by Rob P.
I've got an app that does Text-To-Speech; but I wanted to show an animated face/character to go with it. I found a tutorial on Microsoft Agent and I implemented it in my vb.net app. The problem is with the transparency color. Unless I run application in compatibility mode/256 colors, the characters will appear with a purplish-pink background image instead of a transparent back-color. But running the app in 256 colors the rest of the app looks awfully out of place. First - is there something that works similar to MS Agent I can use that would be more appropriate? Second - if I'm still MS Agent - can I get the transparent color to work correctly without limiting myself to 256 colors?

  • System.ComponentModel.Component in Visual Studio 2008

    - by Mark A Johnson
I'm maintaining a .Net 2.0 application using Visual Studio 2008. When the application was built, it was originally in Visual Studio 2003 and made use of the System.ComponentModel.Component class for data access. You can drag and drop commands, connections, etc onto the designer surface of the component. In 2008, the data access classes don't "stick" to the component. I.e., the code for the command does not get generated in the class. when did this change? 2005? is there a replacement for this behavior, perhaps using the db pro edition? Thanks.

  • Make SQL Server 2005 accessible via Internet

    - by Gary Joynes
I have an application that runs on a client's server built on a SQL Server 2005 database. We have now developed an ASP.NET v2 application which connects to this database. This web application will be hosted on an ISP's server but needs to access the SQL Server database on the client's server. The client's server has a firewall and so forth so I assume it should be possible to make the SQL Server accessible via the Internet but of course I am woriied about security. Can someone point me to some best practices to achieve this.

  • How to simulate postback in nested usercontrols?

    - by jaloplo
Hi all, I'm doing an asp.net application with one page. In this page, I have one usercontrol defined. This usercontrol has a menu (three buttons) and 3 usercontrols defined too. Depending on the clicked button one of the three usercontrols turn to visible true or false. In these three usercontrols I have a button and a message, and I want to show the message "It's NOT postback" when the button of the menu is clicked, and when the button of the usercontrol is clicked the message will be "YES, it's postback!!!". The question is that using property "IsPostBack" of the usercontrol or the page the message will never be "It's NOT postback" because of the clicked button of the menu to show the nested usercontrol. This is the structure of the page: page parent usercontrol menu nested usercontrol 1 message button nested usercontrol 2 nested usercontrol 3 I know it can be done using ViewState but, there is a way to simulate IsPostBack property or know when is the true usercontrol postback? Thanks.
