  • SocketTimeout: Read timed out

    I'm using Flex - IIS - ASP.NET to do remote calls. When I stresstest, all remote calls that take longer than 30 seconds fail. In Charles I get a message saying 'SocketTimeout: Read timed out'. Is this something that can be configured in IIS? Or could it be a problem with a setting in Charles?

  • Windows VPN client connect on different port

    Scenario: Two Windows Server 2003 machines running RRAS VPNs. The firewall port forwards 1723 to one of those machines for normal remote access. I'd like to find a way to connect to the second machine as well. Not because I need to but just because it's the sort of thing I reckon should be possible but can't figure out how to do. Is it possible to have the Windows PPTP VPN client (on XP in this instance) connect on a port other than 1723? If so, I can simply port forward another port to the second server. I've done a fair bit of Googling over the last few days and have only found others asking the same question but no answers. I have of course tried to add a port number in the host name or IP connection box, in various formats, but to no avail. While this might be possible with a third part client I'm really only interested in whether or not it can be done with the Windows built-in client and if so how?. Perhaps there's a registry hack I'm not aware of?

  • MS SQL - Problem running SQL Server Agent Job via service account credentials

    There are 5 steps in this job. First job is an SSIS Package store, second to fifth are file system jobs. We configured all jobs to use Windows Authentication. Under Run As, we specified a user account which was created under SecurityCredentials and SQL Server AgentProxiesSSIS Package execution. The job runs without any problems with this user account. We then proceeded to configure the job to use a service account instead. Service account was specified under SecurityCredentials and SQL Server AgentProxiesSSIS Package Execution.   • lsass.exe memory leak on windows 2003 server

    In the past month or so I noticed that lsass.exe has started to leak memory, getting to 500MB+ of ram in under a week after reboot. Before this I had never noticed it using any significant amount of memory compared to other processes on the system. This is happening on 2 identical servers, neither of which has anything to do with Active Directory. Maybe a recent Windows Update has caused this? Any thoughts on things to check? As a side question is there some way to recycle the memory usage of lsass.exe without rebooting? Edit: Here is what I'm seeing in Process Monitor, there are thousands of registry open/query/close a minute from lsass.exe. How can I track down what is triggering these?

  • Firefox / Iceweasel hangs at exit

    On my Debian (testing) system, I found that for some time now Firefox hangs when exiting. There is no window visible anymore and the process utilizes one CPU core to 100%. No other instances can be started until that process is killed. I tried the Basic Troubleshooting guide but that didn't help. Starting it with iceweasel -safe-mode and then choosing none of the options but just clicking "quit" caused the same behavior. Creating a new profile also didn't change anything. Any ideas what else I could try?

    I'm trying to make everything portable, as my office IT has cracked down on native app installation. One of my favorites (and a good CYA app in this case) is Spybot. All I can find are directions on how to alter the installation to make it portable. Is there a single download out there that would put the app right onto my USB drive?

  • SimpleJdbcCall ignoring JdbcTemplate fetch size

    We are calling the pl/sql stored procedure through Spring SimpleJdbcCall, the fetchsize set on the JdbcTemplate is being ignored by SimpleJdbcCall. The rowmapper resultset fetch size is set to 10 even though we have set the jdbctemplate fetchsize to 200. Any idea why this happens and how to fix it? Have printed the fetchsize of resultset in the rowmapper in the below code snippet - Once it is 200 and other time it is 10 even though I use the same JdbcTemplate on both occassion.   • Can't build wxWidgets on Mac OSX. Need help, please.

    I've been trying everything but something or other always stops me cold. Now, I'm trying 2.8.10 (can't make 2.8.7 work) and I keep getting this linker error. Configure shows --with-opengl = no, yet it wants it but can't find it?   • Why can't you return a List from a Compiled Query?

    I was speeding up my app by using compiled queries for queries which were getting hit over and over. I tried to implement it like this: Function Select(ByVal fk_id As Integer) As List(SomeEntity) Using db As New DataContext() db.ObjectTrackingEnabled = False Return CompiledSelect(db, fk_id) End Using End Function Shared CompiledSelect As Func(Of DataContext, Integer, List(Of SomeEntity)) = _ CompiledQuery.Compile(Function(db As DataContext, fk_id As Integer) _ (From u In db.SomeEntities _ Where u.SomeLinkedEntity.ID = fk_id _ Select u).ToList()) This did not work and I got this error message: Type : System.ArgumentNullException, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089 Message : Value cannot be null. Parameter name: value However, when I changed my compiled query to return IQueryable instead of List like so: Function Select(ByVal fk_id As Integer) As List(SomeEntity) Using db As New DataContext() db.ObjectTrackingEnabled = False Return CompiledSelect(db, fk_id).ToList() End Using End Function Shared CompiledSelect As Func(Of DataContext, Integer, IQueryable(Of SomeEntity)) = _ CompiledQuery.Compile(Function(db As DataContext, fk_id As Integer) _ From u In db.SomeEntities _ Where u.SomeLinkedEntity.ID = fk_id _ Select u) It worked fine. Can anyone shed any light as to why this is? BTW, compiled queries rock! They sped up my app by a factor of 2.

So I tried this: public DrawingCanvas2() { ComboBox box = new ComboBox(); AddVisual( box ); box.Width = 100; box.Height = 30; Canvas.SetLeft( box, 10 ); Canvas.SetTop( box, 10 ); } but it does not work, there is no ComboBox displayed. What I am missing?

  • How to handle ASP.NET application error that occurs on application start and transfer & display erro

    I know that ASP.NET MVC has error filter attribute to handle specified error type. However, this feature cannot catch any error that occurs when application start. Nevertheless, it does not work when error occurs on application starting because request and response objects are always null. Next, I try to solve this question by setting default redirect in custom errors like the following code. <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="Scripts/ApplicationError.htm"></customErrors> Unfortunately, it does not work because when application receive redirected request, it try to start application again and it throw exception again. How do to solve this problem? Alternatively, Do you have other idea for handling this error. Thanks, PS. The main reason for creating this handler because I want to display error when application cannot connect to other service like database for caching data on application start.

    I am trying to kick the habit of using a mouse where I could use keyboard shortcuts, for ergonomic reasons. I believe that if I see some statistics of my use of both input devices, I could reduce my use of mouse clicks. Do you know of any free software I can install on my Windows XP machine that counts keypresses and mouse button presses and displays an hourly/daily report? No fancy GUI is needed - just two summary lines.
