  • Bringing ideas to life

    I understand that this forum is filled with computer science genius's but there must come a point where your expertise in coding can not keep up with your creativity. I am a front end programmer and designer of sorts. I have so many ideas, with no ways of implementing them. I know of platforms that can help, I am really into the arduino project for physical ideas and I know Flash is an amazing platform for software, but when it comes to complex ideas, even such as a 3D game, things can be too much to handle individually. When you have an idea, what is your typical methodology of bring them to life? Write down the idea, save if for later (never gets made right...) Try building it yourself, on the platforms you work with and are good at Consult people on what platform it is best suited to and collaborate with an expert in that field to do the dirty work Consult people on what platform it is best suited to and try to learn it and make it yourself (at least the alpha stages) Are there any communities that support this idea of bringing things to life? Can you pitch ideas to x company as a business model and hope they take you on / sponsor you? Do you have to spend lots of $$$ to get things made?

  • Can you tell on runtime if you're running java from within a jar?

    Hi, I have an application that some of my users run from Eclipse, and others run it by using a jar file. I want some actions to be done when running from within the jar, but I don't want them to be done when running from Eclipse. Is there a way to know on runtime whether the current application is running from within a jar? Thanks! Dikla

    Hey. I am trying to load an image for a custom tableViewCell. The code gets run from the CustomCell-class (CustomCell.h) from [cell performSelectorInBackground:@selector(loadImageFromURL:) withObject:[NSURL URLWithString:urlString]]; in the cellForRowAtIndexPath:-function. Cell gets created here: CustomCell *cell = (CustomCell *) [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil){ NSArray *topLevelObjects = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"CustomCell" owner:self options:nil]; for (id currentObject in topLevelObjects){ if ([currentObject isKindOfClass:[CustomCell class]]){ cell = (CustomCell *) currentObject; break; } } } CustomCell.h: // ... The real error is that the image doesen't show up. EDIT: When I cleared the app's cache, the images didn't show up anymore. EDIT: Seems like URL is nil for some reason. Am I passing the object in the selector correctly? Can you see anything wrong? Thanks.

    I've been searching and i can't find any ff addons or javascript for finding unused css in ajax apps. dust-me selectors can do a site-crawl, but i'm looking for something that examines loaded-in content... I'd like something where i can press 'record' and then make a load of clicks which will check off the used selectors, and hoping to find an existing one rather than try to write my own with jquery!

    I get some text from a web page 5,19 € 3,50 € I want to split this text after "€". for that I'm using this command runScript|javascript{var prices = storedVars['price'].split("€"); document.write(prices[0]); document.write(prices[1])}; after done that try this command getEval|alert(storedVars['prices[0]']) the answer is that prices is undefined. what is the problem here? how can I get this variable from a runScript command? thanks for helping me!

  • What does "infinity" really mean on a connection timeout? Does it retry the connection?

    The difference between connection and read timeout, is that read specifies how long the data connection can be open until it automatically closesc, correct? A connection timeout specifies how long the socket should wait until a connection is established, correct? So if a connection timeout is set to "infinity" what does that really mean? Will it try to establish a connection and if no response is given (as on packets are lost? or port is down?) it will just idle? or will Could someone please explain the basics of network/socket timeouts? and in what situation can a client socket wait infinity?

    I currently have the following code: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !assets/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !uploads/ RewriteRule ^([a-z|0-9_&;=-]+)/([a-z|0-9_&;=-]+) index.php?method=$1&value=$2 [NC,L] This works perfectly to redirect 'page/home' to 'index.php?method=page&value=home. However at some points I need to add an extra variable or two to the query string such as 'admin/useraccounts/mod/2'. When I simply tack on bits to the end of the rewrite rule it works if all the variables are 'page/home/rand/rand' or 'admin/useraccounts/mod/2', but if anything is missing such as 'page/home' I get a 404. What am I doing wrong? Many thanks.

Reason is that it needs to be started VERY early during boot, at a point when there is no network connection yet, also it must not wait for any network connectivity. I know, this requirement seems strange, but it has legacy reasons. What do you think?
