  • qmake library reordering

    - by user1095108
    I put this into a qmake file: QTPLUGIN += component LIBS += -L../lib -lmodule -lcomponent -lnetworking But qmake reorders the libraries behind my back: g++ -m64 -Wl,-O1,--sort-common,--as-needed,-z,relro -o testb .obj/constants.o .obj/main.o .obj/qrc_application.o -L/usr/lib -L../lib -lmodule -lnetworking -lcomponent -lQtGui -lQtNetwork -lQtCore -lpthread Probably because component is a static plugin. But it has a static dependency on the networking library and hence the reordering causes a link error. It is a static dependency and hence is ok in my opinion. How to work around this? I'm using qt 4.8.1.

  • Fractional Calculator in Java

    - by user2888881
    I am trying to create a fractional calculator in Java with inputs of mixed fractions, proper fractions, improper fractions or integers. It should include the four basic operators as well. The program should be set up as a loop where it is continuous until the user types "quit". I have coded the beginning loop but have no idea where to go from there. Please help, I am a beginner and would really appreciate it. Thank you again. This is what I have so far: import java.util.*; public class FractionCalculator { private static Scanner input; public static void main(String[] args) { input = new Scanner(System.in); String x = "quit"; System.out.println("Enter a fraction"); while (true) { String y = input.next(); if (y.equals(x)) { break; } } } }

  • ImageView Force closes my application

    - by BlueFireLady
    Hi there I am really a beginner, and I have been fighting with this problem for 3 days. :( I am able to get an image to show using a grid view and an adapter as in the grid view tutorial, but I wanted to be able to just use ImageView in the xml. public class HelloImage extends Activity { public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); ImageView gridview = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.gridview); gridview.setLayoutParams(new GridView.LayoutParams(85, 85)); gridview.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.CENTER_CROP); gridview.setPadding(8, 8, 8, 8); gridview.setImageResource(R.drawable.hand_tool); } } When I run this it causes the app to force close when loading.

  • Overriding vs Virtual

    - by anonymous
    What is the purpose of using the reserved word virtual in front of functions? If I want a child class to override a parent function, I just declare the same function such as "void draw(){}". class Parent{ public: void say(){ std::cout << "1"; }}; class Child : public Parent{public:void say(){ std::cout << "2"; } }; int main() { Child* a = new Child(); a->say(); return 0; } The output is 2. So again, why would the reserved word "virtual" be necessary in the header of say() ? Thanks a bunch.

  • Notepad++ like "multi editing" in VIM?

    - by proto-n
    I'm switching from Notepad++ to VIM as main text editor. Notepad++ can have multiple cursors by holding down ctrl and clicking anywhere in the text, so if you type, the text appears in multiple locations. Is it possible in vim? Something like insert after selecting multiple rows in visual mode, but with the possibility to have cursors anywhere in the text. It's a feature I rarely use, also it's quite easily avoidable, I'm just curious, since its the only one I could't find a replacement for in vim yet.

  • Stucture with array of pointers in C

  • Memory error, access violation.

    - by Ordo
    Hello! I'm learning C on my own and as a exercise i have written a program but it does not work. The program is splitted into 3 parts. A header file, a main file for executing the program a file to define the functions. I'm not using all the functions yet but that shouldn't be the problem. Here is my header file, nothing special in it. #ifndef EMPLOYEE_H #define EMPLOYEE_H struct Employee { char first[21]; char last[21]; char title[21]; int salary; }; struct Employee* createEmployee(char*, char*, char*, int); // Creates a struct Employee object on the heap. char* getfirstname (struct Employee*); char* getlastname (struct Employee*); char* gettitle (struct Employee*); int getsalary (struct Employee*); void setfirstname (struct Employee*, char*); void setlastname (struct Employee*, char*); void settitle (struct Employee*, char*); void setsalary (struct Employee*, int); void printEmployee(struct Employee*); #endif In this file i define the functions and how they work: #include "7.1.h" #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> struct Employee* createEmployee(char* first, char* last, char* title, int salary) // Creates a struct Employee object on the heap. { struct Employee* p = (struct Employee*) malloc(sizeof(struct Employee)); if (p != NULL) { strcpy(p->first, first); strcpy(p->last, last); strcpy(p->title, title); p->salary, salary; } return p; } char* getfirstname (struct Employee* p) { if (p != NULL) return p ? p->first : ""; } char* getlastname (struct Employee* p) { if (p != NULL) return p ? p->last : ""; } char* gettitle (struct Employee* p) { if (p != NULL) return p ? p->title : ""; } int getsalary (struct Employee* p) { if (p != NULL) return p ? p->salary : 0; } void setfirstname (struct Employee* p, char* first) { if (p != NULL) strcpy(p->first, first); } void setlastname (struct Employee* p, char* last) { if (p != NULL) strcpy(p->last, last); } void settitle (struct Employee* p, char* title) { if (p != NULL) strcpy(p->title, title); } void setsalary (struct Employee* p, char* salary) { if (p != NULL) p->salary, salary; } void printEmployee(struct Employee* p) { if (p != NULL) { printf("%s, %s, %s, %d", p->first, p->last, p->salary, p->salary ); } } And the last file is used to executed the program/functions: #include "7.1.h" #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> int main () { char decision; struct Employee emp; struct Employee* emps[3]; for ( int i = 0; i < 1; i ++) { printf("Please type in the emplooyes data.\nFirstname:"); scanf("%s", emp.first); printf("Lastname:"); scanf("%s", emp.last); printf("Title:"); scanf("%s", emp.title); printf("Salary:"); scanf("%d", &emp.salary); emps[i] = createEmployee(emp.first, emp.last, emp.title, emp.salary); } printf("Do you want to print out your information? (Y/N):"); scanf("%c", &decision); if (decision == 'y' || decision == 'Y') { printEmployee(emps[1]); } } I don't know what the problem is. I 'm always getting the following error message after typing in first, last, title and salary for the first time. The error is written in german. It means: Unhandled exception at 0x102de42e (msvcr100d.dll) in 7.1.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation when writing to 0xCCCCCCCC position. I could fix the first problem with the hints given below. Now when i want to print out the employee data using the function:printEmployee(emps[1]);, I get the same kind of error with access violation.

  • Reading line by line from a file in C

    - by mh234
    What I am trying to do is print out the contents of a file line by line. I run the program in terminal by doing: ./test testText.txt. When I do this, random characters are printed out but not what is in the file. The text file is located in the same folder as the makefile. What's wrong? #include <stdio.h> FILE *fp; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { char line[15]; fp = fopen(*argv, "r"); while((fgets(line, 15, fp)) != NULL) { printf(line); printf("\n"); } }

  • how do I check if a c++ string is an int?

    - by user342231
    when I use getline, I would input a bunch of strings or numbers, but I only want the while loop to output the "word" if it is not a number. so is there any way to check if "word" is a number or not, I know I could use atoi() for c-strings but how about for strings of the string class int main () { stringstream ss (stringstream::in | stringstream::out); string word; string str; getline(cin,str); ss<<str; while(ss>>word) { //if( ) cout<<word<<endl; } }

  • variadic constructors

    - by FredOverflow
    Are variadic constructors supposed to hide the implicitly generated ones, i.e. the default constructor and the copy constructor? struct Foo { template<typename... Args> Foo(Args&&... x) { std::cout << "inside the variadic constructor\n"; } }; int main() { Foo a; Foo b(a); } Somehow I was expecting this to print nothing after reading this answer, but it prints inside the variadic constructor twice on g++ 4.5.0 :( Is this behavior correct?

  • Couldn't match expected type - Haskell Code

    - by wvyar
    I'm trying to learn Haskell, but the small bit of sample code I tried to write is running into a fairly large amount of "Couldn't match expected type" errors. Can anyone give me some guidance as to what I'm doing wrong/how I should go about this? These are the errors, but I'm not really sure how I should be writing my code. toDoSchedulerSimple.hs:6:14: Couldn't match expected type `[t0]' with actual type `IO String' In the return type of a call of `readFile' In a stmt of a 'do' block: f <- readFile inFile In the expression: do { f <- readFile inFile; lines f } toDoSchedulerSimple.hs:27:9: Couldn't match expected type `[a0]' with actual type `IO ()' In the return type of a call of `putStr' In a stmt of a 'do' block: putStr "Enter task name: " In the expression: do { putStr "Enter task name: "; task <- getLine; return inFileArray : task } toDoSchedulerSimple.hs:34:9: Couldn't match expected type `IO ()' with actual type `[a0]' In a stmt of a 'do' block: putStrLn "Your task is: " ++ (inFileArray !! i) In the expression: do { i <- randomRIO (0, (length inFileArray - 1)); putStrLn "Your task is: " ++ (inFileArray !! i) } In an equation for `getTask': getTask inFileArray = do { i <- randomRIO (0, (length inFileArray - 1)); putStrLn "Your task is: " ++ (inFileArray !! i) } toDoSchedulerSimple.hs:41:9: Couldn't match expected type `[a0]' with actual type `IO ()' In the return type of a call of `putStr' In a stmt of a 'do' block: putStr "Enter the task you would like to end: " In the expression: do { putStr "Enter the task you would like to end: "; task <- getLine; filter (endTaskCheck task) inFileArray } toDoSchedulerSimple.hs:60:53: Couldn't match expected type `IO ()' with actual type `[String] -> IO ()' In a stmt of a 'do' block: schedulerSimpleMain In the expression: do { (getTask inFileArray); schedulerSimpleMain } In a case alternative: "get-task" -> do { (getTask inFileArray); schedulerSimpleMain } This is the code itself. • sql unite fields to one result

    - by none
    i know this is a "not build in" or "the way dba thinks" but a programmer aproach , How could one request from 3 fields to get the one that is not null, into a result filed. lets say we have a table with f1,f2,f3,f4,f5. lets say f2,f3,f4 are the same type. lets say the content of the table be tupples of (key1,null,null,value1,value2) (key2,null,value3,value4,value5) (key3,null,null,null,value6) now if we return the first tupple then we get (key1) we get (key1,value1,value2) if we ask for key2 we get (key1,value3,value5) if we ask for key3 we get (key1,null,value6) how is it possible to get the fields in the priority of if you have value in f2, then its set into the returned field, only then if we have value in f3 then its set into the middle returned field, only then if we have value in f4 then its set into the middle returned field the main goal is to get the result into a sigel feild and prevent the overhead work needed at the result end.

  • Address of array vs. address of array[0] - C language

    - by user324994
    My question is why does the address of an array differ from the address of its first position? I'm trying to write my own malloc, but to start out I'm just allocating a chunk of memory and playing around with the addresses. My code looks roughly like this: #define BUFF_SIZE 1024 static char *mallocbuff; int main(){ mallocbuff = malloc(BUFF_SIZE); printf("The address of mallocbuff is %d\n", &mallocbuff); printf("The address of mallocbuff[0] is %d\n", &mallocbuff[0]); } &mallocbuff is the same address every time I run it. &mallocbuff[0] is some random address every time. I was expecting the addresses to match each other. Can anyone explain why this isn't the case?

  • pthread_exit return value

    - by Manty
    This is surprising for me. void * thread_func(void *arg) { pthread_exit(&ret); } int main(void) { pthread_t thr; int *exit_status; pthread_create(&thr, NULL, thread_func, NULL); sleep(2); pthread_join(thr, (void **)&exit_status); printf("value of exit status - %d\n", *exit_status); ret = 20; pthread_join(thr, (void **)&exit_status); printf("value of exit status - %d\n", *exit_status); return 0; } The output is value of exit status - 50 value of exit status - 20 I was expecting both the times the exit_status would be the actual exit value(50 in my case) of the thread. Instead it is just returning the value of the global variable which I used for pthread_exit. Is it not a bug?

  • Making application menus on top of gnome shell

    - by GAP
    Is there a way to put gnome shell components (panel, message tray) to be appear below the popup menu's of other applications such as Java and Gtk Apps. The problem is when there are gtk apps which has tray icons the popup menu tends to appear below the message tray, this was bit ok now in 3.6 because the message tray hides soon as the icon is clicked. But the top bar is still a problem for large menus. When running eclipse with lot of options in the context menu the top most items including the scroll button are under top bar. Is there any thing i can change in the main.js or panel.js to get things below the popup menus ?

  • Staticly linked libraries not running code inside to setup static variables.

    - by MJD
    In a c++ project I am working on, I have a simple c++ file that needs to run some code at the beginning of the progam execution. This file is linked into a static library, which is then linked into the main program. I have similar code in other files running fine, that looks something like: bool ____nonexistant_value = executeAction(); However, it does not work inside this file unless I make use of a function implemented in this file. It does work if the library is compilied as a shared library. I'd prefer to link this statically as the library is only a convience as the file is in a different directory.

  • a question related to Google Translate

    Hi all, it works perfectly fine if I paste the following URL directly into my IE address bar: http://translate.google.cn/translate?hl=zh-CN&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fnews.baidu.com%2Fns%3Fword%3D%25B0%25C2%25B0%25CD%25C2%25ED it will translate some Chinese news pages into English ones. but if I call this address in a Java program like: Process q=Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start http://translate.google.cn/translate?hl=zh-CN&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fnews.baidu.com%2Fns%3Fword%3D%25B0%25C2%25B0%25CD%25C2%25ED"); It will only return to the Google translate main page. Wonder what went wrong there. and it would be great if you help me how to realize this(opening the Google translated result page simplying by supplying the URL,in a Java program). Many thanks.

  • Adding a comment system to my website

    - by MJ93
    Hey everyone, I'm trying to add some type of comment system to my website for the news that I post on the main page. What I would like it to do is have anybody comment on it (they don't need to login). The comment submission form just required a Name and comment. What would be the simplest way to do this? It would also be nice to have it display how many comments there currently are on the news post. I dont need anything fancy. Thanks!

  • How to convert a void pointer to array of classes

    - by user99545
    I am trying to convert a void pointer to an array of classes in a callback function that only supports a void pointer as a means of passing paramaters to the callback. class person { std::string name, age; }; void callback (void *val) { for (int i = 0; i < 9; i++) { std::cout << (person [])val[i].name; } } int main() { person p[10]; callback((void*)p); } My goal is to be able to pass an array of the class person to the callback which then prints out the data such as their name and age. However, the compile does not like what I am doing and complains that error: request for member 'name' in 'val', which is of non-class type 'void*' How can I go about doing this?

  • requireJS : How to structure Javascript for an entire site?

    - by pagewil
    I have 3000+ lines of javascript that I need to get into a sensible/maintainable structure. I have chosen to use requireJS as it has been recommend to me by a few people. I have a bunch of variables that are used throughout the application and need to be available everywhere. I also have a bunch of functions that need to be available everywhere. Apart from these two dependencies most of the code can be divided off into their own modules. I am having trouble understanding how to manage my main variables so that if one module of code makes changes to the variables the rest of the JS modules will see that change. I think I need to see a few examples that demonstrate how requireJS is intended to work on a larger scale that the examples in the documentation. If anyone is an experienced requireJS user I would love the hear your tips!

  • How to handle added input data colums without having to maintain multiple versions of SSIS packages?

    - by GLFelger
    I’m writing to solicit ideas for a solution to an upcoming problem. The product that provides data to our ETL process currently has multiple versions. Our clients are all using some version of the product, but not all use the same version and they will not all be upgraded at the same time. As new versions of the product are rolled out, the most common change is to add new data columns. Columns being dropped or renamed may happen occasionally, but our main focus right now is how to handle new columns being added. The problem that we want to address is how to handle the data for clients who use an older version of the product. If we don’t account for the new columns in our SSIS packages, then the data in those columns for clients using an older product version will not be processed. What we want to avoid is having to maintain a separate version of the SSIS packages for each version of the product. Has anyone successfully implemented a solution for this situation?
