  • QT NOOB: Add action handler for multiple objects of same type.

    - by what
    I have a simple QT application with 10 radio buttons with names radio_1 through radio_10. It is a ui called Selector, and is part of a class called TimeSelector In my header file for this design, i have this: //! [1] class TimeSelector : public QWidget { Q_OBJECT public: TimeSelector(QWidget *parent = 0); private slots: //void on_inputSpinBox1_valueChanged(int value); //void on_inputSpinBox2_valueChanged(int value); private: Ui::Selector ui; }; //! [1] the commented out void_on_inputSpinBox1_valueChanged(int value) is from the tutorial for the simple calculator. I know i can do: void on_radio_1_valueChanged(int value); but I would need 10 functions. I want to be able to make one function that works for everything, and lets me pass in maybe a name of the radio button that called it, or a reference to the radio button so i can work with it and determine who it was. I am very new to QT but this seems like it should be very basic and doable, thanks.

  • Can't store UTF-8 in RDS despite setting up new Parameter Group using Rails on Heroku

    - by Lail
    I'm setting up a new instance of a Rails(2.3.5) app on Heroku using Amazon RDS as the database. I'd like to use UTF-8 for everything. Since RDS isn't UTF-8 by default, I set up a new Parameter Group and switched the database to use that one, basically per this. Seems to have worked: SHOW VARIABLES LIKE '%character%'; character_set_client utf8 character_set_connection utf8 character_set_database utf8 character_set_filesystem binary character_set_results utf8 character_set_server utf8 character_set_system utf8 character_sets_dir /rdsdbbin/mysql-5.1.50.R3/share/mysql/charsets/ Furthermore, I've successfully setup Heroku to use the RDS database. After rake db:migrate, everything looks good: CREATE TABLE `comments` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `commentable_id` int(11) DEFAULT NULL, `parent_id` int(11) DEFAULT NULL, `content` text COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci, `child_count` int(11) DEFAULT '0', `created_at` datetime DEFAULT NULL, `updated_at` datetime DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), KEY `commentable_id` (`commentable_id`), KEY `index_comments_on_community_id` (`community_id`), KEY `parent_id` (`parent_id`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB AUTO_INCREMENT=4 DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_unicode_ci; In the markup, I've included: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> Also, I've set: production: encoding: utf8 collation: utf8_general_ci ...in the database.yml, though I'm not very confident that anything is being done to honor any of those settings in this case, as Heroku seems to be doing its own config when connecting to RDS. Now, I enter a comment through the form in the app: "Úbe® ƒåiL", but in the database I've got "Úbe® Æ’Ã¥iL" It looks fine when Rails loads it back out of the database and it is rendered to the page, so whatever it is doing one way, it's undoing the other way. If I look at the RDS database in Sequel Pro, it looks fine if I set the encoding to "UTF-8 Unicode via Latin 1". So it seems Latin-1 is sneaking in there somewhere. Somebody must have done this before, right? What am I missing?

  • C++ Loop - Need variable to accumulate sum

    - by user1780064
    I'm writing a program to ask the user to enter a value between 5 and 21 (inclusive). If the number entered is not in this range, it prints, "Please try again". If the number is within the range, I need to take that number, and print the sum of all the numbers from 1 to the value entered. So if the user entered "7", the sum would be "28". I successfully wrote the first loop, in the case of the number not being within the range, but cannot figure out how to run the second loop- whether to use a while, do-while, or for loop. Please advise. #include <iostream> int main () { int uservalue; int count; int sum; //Prompt user for input do { cout << "Enter a value from 5 to 21: "; cin >> uservalue; if (uservalue < 5 || uservalue > 21) cout << "Value out of range. Try again..." << endl; } while (uservalue < 5 || uservalue > 21); cout << endl; //Loop to accumulate sum for (count = 1, count < uservalue, count++;) { sum = uservalue + count; if (uservalue <= 5 || uservalue <= 21) cout << the sum is " << sum << endl; } return 0; }

  • Contacts & Autocomplete

    - by Vince
    First post. I'm new to android and programming in general. What I'm attempting to is to have an autocomplete text box pop up with auto complete names from the contact list. IE, if they type in "john" it will say "John Smith" or any john in their contacts. The code is basic, I pulled it from a few tutorials. private void autoCompleteBox() { ContentResolver cr = getContentResolver(); Uri contacts = Uri.parse("content://contacts/people"); Cursor managedCursor1 = cr.query(contacts, null, null, null, null); if (managedCursor1.moveToFirst()) { String contactname; String cphoneNumber; int nameColumn = managedCursor1.getColumnIndex("name"); int phoneColumn = managedCursor1.getColumnIndex("number"); Log.d("int Name", Integer.toString(nameColumn)); Log.d("int Number", Integer.toString(phoneColumn)); do { // Get the field values contactname = managedCursor1.getString(nameColumn); cphoneNumber = managedCursor1.getString(phoneColumn); if ((contactname != " " || contactname != null) && (cphoneNumber != " " || cphoneNumber != null)) { c_Name.add(contactname); c_Number.add(cphoneNumber); Toast.makeText(this, contactname, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT) .show(); } } while (managedCursor1.moveToNext()); } name_Val = (String[]) c_Name.toArray(new String[c_Name.size()]); phone_Val = (String[]) c_Number.toArray(new String[c_Name.size()]); ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, android.R.layout.simple_dropdown_item_1line, name_Val); personName.setAdapter(adapter); } personName is my autocompletetextbox. So it actually works when I use it in the emulator (4.2) with manually entered contacts through the people app, but when I use it on my device, it will not pop up with any names. I'm sure it's something ridiculous but I've tried to find the answer and I'm getting nowhere. Can't learn if I don't ask.

  • Mysql slow query: INNER JOIN + ORDER BY causes filesort

    - by Alexander
    Hello! I'm trying to optimize this query: SELECT `posts`.* FROM `posts` INNER JOIN `posts_tags` ON `posts`.id = `posts_tags`.post_id WHERE (((`posts_tags`.tag_id = 1))) ORDER BY posts.created_at DESC; The size of tables is 38k rows, and 31k and mysql uses "filesort" so it gets pretty slow. I tried to use different indexes, no luck. Is it possible when order field is not in where clause?

  • Conversion between different template instantiation of the same template

    - by Naveen
    I am trying to write an operator which converts between the differnt types of the same implementation. This is the sample code: template <class T = int> class A { public: A() : m_a(0){} template <class U> operator A<U>() { A<U> u; u.m_a = m_a; return u; } private: int m_a; }; int main(void) { A<int> a; A<double> b = a; return 0; } However, it gives the following error for line u.m_a = m_a;. Error 2 error C2248: 'A::m_a' : cannot access private member declared in class 'A' d:\VC++\Vs8Console\Vs8Console\Vs8Console.cpp 30 Vs8Console I understand the error is because A<U> is a totally different type from A<T>. Is there any simple way of solving this (may be using a friend?) other than providing setter and getter methods? I am using Visual studio 2008 if it matters.

  • Query about running a program through valgrind and getting false results comparing to other systems.

    - by FILIaS
    Yesterday i posted this: What's the problem with this code? [hashtable in C] and paxdiablo offered to help me. He posted a sample of code and asked me to run it through valgrind on my machine. This code normally generates: 12,4 But on my machine, i get 24,8. The doubled! I'm just curious why is that happening. Hope sb has a good explaination. I post also paxdiablo's code (for anyone who cant find it.) #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> typedef struct HashTable { int size ; struct List *head; struct List *tail; } HashTable; typedef struct List { char *number; char *name; int time; struct List *next; } List; #define size_of_table 211 HashTable *createHashTable(void) { HashTable *new_table = malloc(sizeof(*new_table)*size_of_table); //line 606 printf ("%d\n", sizeof(*new_table)); printf ("%d\n", sizeof(new_table)); if (new_table == NULL) { return NULL; } int i=0; for(i; i<size_of_table; i++) { new_table[i].size=0; new_table[i].head=NULL; new_table[i].tail=NULL; } return new_table; } int main(void) { HashTable *x = createHashTable(); free (x); return 0; }

  • The correct usage of nested #pragma omp for directives

    - by GoldenLee
    The following code runs like a charm before OpenMP parallelization was applied. In fact, the following code was in a state of endless loop! I'm sure that's result from my incorrect use to the OpenMP directives. Would you please show me the correct way? Thank you very much. #pragma omp parallel for for (int nY = nYTop; nY <= nYBottom; nY++) { for (int nX = nXLeft; nX <= nXRight; nX++) { // Use look-up table for performance dLon = theApp.m_LonLatLUT.LonGrid()[nY][nX] + m_FavoriteSVISSRParams.m_dNadirLon; dLat = theApp.m_LonLatLUT.LatGrid()[nY][nX]; // If you don't want to use longitude/latitude look-up table, uncomment the following line //NOMGeoLocate.XYToGEO(dLon, dLat, nX, nY); if (dLon > 180 || dLat > 180) { continue; } if (Navigation.GeoToXY(dX, dY, dLon, dLat, 0) > 0) { continue; } // Skip void data scanline dY = dY - nScanlineOffset; // Compute coefficients as well as its four neighboring points' values nX1 = int(dX); nX2 = nX1 + 1; nY1 = int(dY); nY2 = nY1 + 1; dCx = dX - nX1; dCy = dY - nY1; dP1 = pIRChannelData->operator [](nY1)[nX1]; dP2 = pIRChannelData->operator [](nY1)[nX2]; dP3 = pIRChannelData->operator [](nY2)[nX1]; dP4 = pIRChannelData->operator [](nY2)[nX2]; // Bilinear interpolation usNomDataBlock[nY][nX] = (unsigned short)BilinearInterpolation(dCx, dCy, dP1, dP2, dP3, dP4); } }

  • Coordinating typedefs and structs in std::multiset (C++)

    - by Sarah
    I'm not a professional programmer, so please don't hesitate to state the obvious. My goal is to use a std::multiset container (typedef EventMultiSet) called currentEvents to organize a list of structs, of type Event, and to have members of class Host occasionally add new Event structs to currentEvents. The structs are supposed to be sorted by one of their members, time. I am not sure how much of what I am trying to do is legal; the g++ compiler reports (in "Host.h") "error: 'EventMultiSet' has not been declared." Here's what I'm doing: // Event.h struct Event { public: bool operator < ( const Event & rhs ) const { return ( time < rhs.time ); } double time; int eventID; int hostID; }; // Host.h ... void calcLifeHist( double, EventMultiSet * ); // produces compiler error ... void addEvent( double, int, int, EventMultiSet * ); // produces compiler error // Host.cpp #include "Event.h" ... // main.cpp #include "Event.h" ... typedef std::multiset< Event, std::less< Event > > EventMultiSet; EventMultiSet currentEvents; EventMultiSet * cePtr = &currentEvents; ... Major questions Where should I include the EventMultiSet typedef? Are my EventMultiSet pointers obviously problematic? Is the compare function within my Event struct (in theory) okay? Thank you very much in advance.

  • GWT + Seam, cannot fetch scoped beans from gwt servlet in seam resource servlet.

    - by David Göransson
    Hello all I am trying to get session and conversation scoped beans to a gwt servlet in the seam resource servlet. I have a conversation scoped bean: @Name ("viewFormCopyAction") @Scope (ScopeType.CONVERSATION) public class ViewFormCopyAction {} and a session scoped bean: @Name ("authenticator") @Scope (ScopeType.SESSION) public class AuthenticatorAction {} There is a RemoteService interface: @RemoteServiceRelativePath ("strokesService") public interface StrokesService extends RemoteService { public Position getPosition (int conversationId); } with corresponding async interface: public interface StrokesServiceAsync extends RemoteService { public void getPosition (int conversationId, AsyncCallback callback); } and implementation: @Name ("com.web.actions.forms.gwt.client.StrokesService") @Scope (ScopeType.EVENT) public class StrokesServiceImpl implements StrokesService { @In Manager manager; @Override @WebRemote public Position getPosition (int conversationId) { manager.switchConversation( "" + conversationId ); ViewFormCopyAction vfca = (ViewFormCopyAction) Component.getInstance( "viewFormCopyAction" ); AuthenticatorAction aa = (AuthenticatorAction) Component.getInstance( "authenticator" ); return null; } } The gwt page is within an IFrame in a regular seam page and the conversationId is propagted with the src attribute of the IFrame. Both bean objects end up with only null values. Can anyone see anything wrong with the code? I know that I could use strings instead of the int, but never mind that at this point.

  • why malloc+memset slower than calloc?

    - by kingkai
    It's known that calloc differentiates itself with malloc in which it initializes the memory alloted. With calloc, the memory is set to zero. With malloc, the memory is not cleared. So in everyday work, i regard calloc as malloc+memset. Incidentally, for fun, i wrote the following codes for benchmark. The result is confused. Code 1: #include<stdio.h> #include<stdlib.h> #define BLOCK_SIZE 1024*1024*256 int main() { int i=0; char *buf[10]; while(i<10) { buf[i] = (char*)calloc(1,BLOCK_SIZE); i++; } } time ./a.out real 0m0.287s user 0m0.095s sys 0m0.192s Code 2: #include<stdio.h> #include<stdlib.h> #include<string.h> #define BLOCK_SIZE 1024*1024*256 int main() { int i=0; char *buf[10]; while(i<10) { buf[i] = (char*)malloc(BLOCK_SIZE); memset(buf[i],'\0',BLOCK_SIZE); i++; } } time ./a.out real 0m2.693s user 0m0.973s sys 0m1.721s Repalce memset with bzero(buf[i],BLOCK_SIZE) in Code 2 produce the result alike. My Question is that why malloc+memset is so much slower than calloc? How can calloc do that ? Thanks!

  • Fibonacci in C works great with 1 - 18 but 19 does nothing at all...

    - by shevron
    Yeah right... we are forced to programm some good old C at our university... ;) So here's my problem: We got the assignment to program a little program that show a fibonacci sequence from 1 to n 1 to 18 works great. But from 19 the program does nothing at all and just exit as it's done. I can not find the error... so please give me a hint. :) #include #include #include #include int main(int argc, char **argv) { pid_t pid; int fib[argc]; int i, size; size = strtol(argv[1], NULL, 0L); fib[0] = 0; fib[1] = 1; pid = fork(); printf("size = %d \n", size); if(pid == 0){ for(i = 2; i 0){ // Parent, because pid 0 wait(NULL); printf("\n"); exit(1); } } Thanks already!

  • The program fails to display `cout` when it is run

    - by Jeff - FL
    Hello, I justed started a C++ course & I wrote, compiled, debugged & ran my first program: // This program calculates how much a little league team spent last year to purchase new baseballs. #include <iostream> using namespace std; int baseballs; int cost; int total; int main() { baseballs, cost, total; // Get the number of baseballs were purchased. cout << "How many baseballs were purchased? "; cin >> baseballs; // Get the cost of baseballs purchased. cout << "What was the cost of each baseball purchased? "; cin >> cost; // Calculate the total. total = baseballs * cost; // Display the total. cout << "The total amount spent $" << total << endl; return 0; } The only probelm that I encountered was that when I ran the program it failed to display the total amount spent (cout). Could someone please explain why? Thanks Jeff H - Sarasota, FL

  • is it possible to write a program which prints its own source code utilizing a "sequence-generating-

    - by guest
    is it possible to write a program which prints its own source code utilizing a "sequence-generating-function"? what i call a sequence-generating-function is simply a function which returns a value out of a specific interval (i.e. printable ascii-charecters (32-126)). the point now is, that this generated sequence should be the programs own source-code. as you see, implementing a function which returns an arbitrary sequence is really trivial, but since the returned sequence must contain the implementation of the function itself it is a highly non-trivial task. this is how such a program (and its corresponding output) could look like #include <stdio.h> int fun(int x) { ins1; ins2; ins3; . . . return y; } int main(void) { int i; for ( i=0; i<size of the program; i++ ) { printf("%c", fun(i)); } return 0; } i personally think it is not possible, but since i don't know very much about the underlying matter i posted my thoughts here. i'm really looking forward to hear some opinions!

  • Unexpected results when looking at ASCII codes in C++.

    - by Columbo
    Hello, The bit of code below is extracting ASCII codes from characters. When I convert characters in the normal ASCII region I get the value I expect. When I convert £ and € from the extened region I get a load of 1's padding the INT that I'm storing the character in. e.g. the output of the below is: 45 (ascii E as expected) FFFFFF80 (extended ascii € as expected but padded with ones) It's not causing me an issue but I'm just wondering why this happens. Here's the code... unsigned int asciichar[3]; string cTextToEncode = "E€"; for (unsigned int i = 0; i < cTextToEncode.length(); i++) { asciichar[i] = (unsigned int)cTextToEncode[i]; cout << hex << asciichar[i] << "\n"; } Can anyone explain why this is? Thanks

Address: AddressId int not null primary key identity ...more columns AddressContinental: AddressId int not null primary key identity foreign key to pk of Address County State AddressInternational: AddressId int not null primary key identity foreign key to pk of Address ProvinceRegion I don't have control over schema, this is just the way it is. Now, what I want to do is have a single Address object. public class Address { public int AddressId { get; set; } public County County { get; set; } public State State { get; set } public ProvinceRegion { get; set; } } I want to have EF pull it out of the database as a single entity. When saving, I want to save the single entity and have EF know to split it into the three tables. How would I map this in EF 4.1 Code First? I've been searching around and haven't found anything that meets my case yet. UPDATE An address record will have a record in Address and one in either AddressContinental or AddressInternational, but not both.

  • Line End Problem Reading with Scanner Class in Java

    - by dikbas
    I am not an experienced Java programmer and i'm trying to write some text to a file and then read it with Scanner. I know there are lots of ways of doing this, but i want to write records to file with delimiters, then read the pieces. The problem is so small. When I look the output some printing isn't seen(shown in below). I mean the bold line in the Output that is only written "Scanner". I would be appreciated if anyone can answer why "String: " isn't seen there. (Please answer just what i ask) I couldn't understand if it is a simple printing problem or a line end problem with "\r\n". Here is the code and output: import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.FileWriter; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.Scanner; public class Tmp { public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException { int i; boolean b; String str; FileWriter fout = new FileWriter("test.txt"); fout.write("Testing|10|true|two|false\r\n"); fout.write("Scanner|12|one|true|"); fout.close(); FileReader fin = new FileReader("Test.txt"); Scanner src = new Scanner(fin).useDelimiter("[|\\*]"); while (src.hasNext()) { if (src.hasNextInt()) { i = src.nextInt(); System.out.println("int: " + i); } else if (src.hasNextBoolean()) { b = src.nextBoolean(); System.out.println("boolean: " + b); } else { str = src.next(); System.out.println("String: " + str); } } fin.close(); } } Here is the output: String: Testing int: 10 boolean: true String: two String: false Scanner int: 12 String: one boolean: true

  • Optimize a views drawing code

    - by xon1c
    Hi, in a simple drawing application I have a model which has a NSMutableArray curvedPaths holding all the lines the user has drawn. A line itself is also a NSMutableArray, containing the point objects. As I draw curved NSBezier paths, my point array has the following structure: linePoint, controlPoint, controlPoint, linePoint, controlPoint, controlPoint, etc... I thought having one array holding all the points plus control points would be more efficient than dealing with 2 or 3 different arrays. Obviously my view draws the paths it gets from the model, which leads to the actual question: Is there a way to optimize the following code (inside the view's drawRect method) in terms of speed? int lineCount = [[model curvedPaths] count]; // Go through paths for (int i=0; i < lineCount; i++) { // Get the Color NSColor *theColor = [model getColorOfPath:[[model curvedPaths] objectAtIndex:i]]; // Get the points NSArray *thePoints = [model getPointsOfPath:[[model curvedPaths] objectAtIndex:i]]; // Create a new path for performance reasons NSBezierPath *path = [[NSBezierPath alloc] init]; // Set the color [theColor set]; // Move to first point without drawing [path moveToPoint:[[thePoints objectAtIndex:0] myNSPoint]]; int pointCount = [thePoints count] - 3; // Go through points for (int j=0; j < pointCount; j+=3) { [path curveToPoint:[[thePoints objectAtIndex:j+3] myNSPoint] controlPoint1:[[thePoints objectAtIndex:j+1] myNSPoint] controlPoint2:[[thePoints objectAtIndex:j+2] myNSPoint]]; } // Draw the path [path stroke]; // Bye stuff [path release]; [theColor release]; } Thanks, xonic

  • Android: Scheduling application to start with repeating alarms not working

    I get my Broadcast receiver to set a recurring alarm, to fire up a service. Unfortunately this does not result in the service being called repeatedly (based on logcat). I've experimented with different values for the time interval too. Can someone help? following piece of code does not compile, the problem is in T::rank not be inaccessible (I think) or uninitialized in parent template. Can you tell me exactly what the problem is? is passing rank explicitly the only way? or is there a way to query tensor class directly? • What are the default return values for operator< and operator[] in C++ (Visual Studio 6)?

    - by DustOff
    I've inherited a large Visual Studio 6 C++ project that needs to be translated for VS2005. Some of the classes defined operator< and operator[], but don't specify return types in the declarations. VS6 allows this, but not VS2005. I am aware that the C standard specifies that the default return type for normal functions is int, and I assumed VS6 might have been following that, but would this apply to C++ operators as well? Or could VS6 figure out the return type on its own? For example, the code defines a custom string class like this: class String { char arr[16]; public: operator<(const String& other) { return something1 < something2; } operator[](int index) { return arr[index]; } }; Would VS6 have simply put the return types for both as int, or would it have been smart enough to figure out that operator[] should return a char and operator< should return a bool (and not convert both results to int all the time)? Of course I have to add return types to make this code VS2005 C++ compliant, but I want to make sure to specify the same type as before, as to not immediately change program behavior (we're going for compatibility at the moment; we'll standardize things later).

  • Trying to edit an entity with data from dropdowns in MVC...

    - by user598352
    Hello! I'm having trouble getting my head around sending multiple models to a view in mvc. My problem is the following. Using EF4 I have a table with attributes organised by category. Couldn't post an image :-( [Have a table called attributes (AttributeTitle, AttributeName, CategoryID) connected to a table called Category (CategoryTitle).] What I want to do is be able to edit an attribute entity and have a dropdown of categories to choose from. I tried to make a custom viewmodel public class AttributeViewModel { public AttributeViewModel() { } public Attribute Attribute { get; set; } public IQueryable<Category> AllCategories { get; set; } } But it just ended up being a mess. <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.DropDownList("Category", new SelectList((IEnumerable)Model.AllCategories, "CategoryID", "CategoryName")) %> </div> I was getting it back to the controller... [HttpPost] public ActionResult Edit(int AttributeID, FormCollection formcollection) { var _attribute = ProfileDB.GetAttribute(AttributeID); int _selcategory = Convert.ToInt32(formcollection["Category"]); _attribute.CategoryID = (int)_selcategory; try { UpdateModel(_attribute); (<---Error here) ProfileDB.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch (Exception e) { return View(_attribute); } } I've debugged the code and my _attribute looks correct and _attribute.CategoryID = (int)_selcategory updates the model, but then I get the error. Somewhere here I thought that there should be a cleaner way to do this, and that if I could only send two models to the view instead of having to make a custom viewmodel. To sum it up: I want to edit my attribute and have a dropdown of all of the available categories. Any help much appreciated!
