  • Why does Color.IsNamedColor not work when I create a color using Color.FromArgb()?

    - by Jon B
    In my app I allow the user to build a color, and then show him the name or value of the color later on. If the user picks red (full red, not red-ish), I want to show him "red". If he picks some strange color, then the hex value would be just fine. Here's sample code that demonstrates the problem: static string GetName(int r, int g, int b) { Color c = Color.FromArgb(r, g, b); // Note that specifying a = 255 doesn't make a difference if (c.IsNamedColor) { return c.Name; } else { // return hex value } } Even with very obvious colors like red IsNamedColor never returns true. Looking at the ARGB values for my color and Color.Red, I see no difference. However, calling Color.Red.GetHashCode() returns a different hash code than Color.FromArgb(255, 0, 0).GetHashCode(). How can I create a color using user specified RGB values and have the Name property come out right?

  • IEnumerable<T> representing the "rest" of an IEnumerable<T> sequence

    - by Henry Jackson
    If I am walking through an IEnumerable<T>, is there any way to get a new IEnumerable<T> representing the remaining items after the current one. For example, I would like to write an extension method IEnumerator<T>.Remaining(): IEnumerable<int> sequence = ... IEnumerator<int> enumerator = sequence.GetEnumerator(); if (enumerator.MoveNext() && enumerator.MoveNext()) { IEnumerable<int> rest = enumerator.Remaining(); // 'rest' would contain elements in 'sequence' start at the 3rd element } I'm thinking of the collection of a sort of singly-linked list, so there should be a way to represent any remaining elements, right? I don't see any way to do this exposed on either IEnumerable<T> or IEnumerator<T>, so maybe it's incompatible with the notion of a potentially unbounded, nondeterministic sequence of elements.

  • Quick question about pointers

    - by xbonez
    So, I have this code fragment: int * iPtr ; int * jPtr ; int i = 5, k = 7; iPtr = &i; jPtr = iPtr ; I have just started learning about pointers, and need to get some doubts cleared. is jPtr now essentially also pointing at i? I know I can change the value of i by using *iPtr, but how can I change the value of the object being pointed to by jPtr? How will changing the object being pointed to by jPtr affect the value of the object pointed to by iPtr, and i ?

  • When I'm iterating over two arrays at once, which one do I use as the limit?

    - by Martijn Courteaux
    Hi, I'm always struggling with something like the following Java example: String breads[] = {"Brown", "White", "Sandwich"}; int count[] = new int[breads.length]; for (int i = 0; i < ****; i++) { // Prompt the number of breads } ****: which array.length should I choose? I can choose between breads.length and count.length I know it would be the same result, but I don't know which one I shoud choose. There are many other examples where I get the same problem. I'm sure that you have encountered this problem as well in the past. What should you choose? Are there general agreements? Thanks

    i have this program //h is our N static int g=0; int fun(int h){ if(h<=0){ g++; return g; } return g+fun(h-1)+fun(h-4); } is it possible to speed it up using dynamic programming i fugured out this function runs in O(2^n) it means that i suppose to reduce this time but the trouble is that i don get the idea of dinamic programming even a leading hint or a useful link to a resource will do it is a work assingment i do not ask for the solution :) just asking for the right direction

  • how to get the type of a deferred template parameter

    - by smerlin
    Is there a way to get the defered type of a class template parameter ? template <class TPtr> struct foo { typedef TPtr ptr_type; typedef ??? element_type; /* shall be the type of a deferred TPtr*/ }; so foo<const char*>::element_type results in const char, and foo<std::vector<int>::iterator_type>::element_type results in int. i am aware of that i can use the value_type typedef for c++ iterators (like std::vector<int>::iterator_type::value_type), but raw pointers havent got a value_type typedef, so i am out of luck there.

  • Why won't C++ allow this default value

    - by nieldw
    Why won't GCC allow a default parameter here? template<class edgeDecor, class vertexDecor, bool dir> Graph<edgeDecor,int,dir> Graph<edgeDecor,vertexDecor,dir>::Dijkstra(vertex s, bool print = false) const { This is the output I get: graph.h:82: error: default argument given for parameter 2 of ‘Graph<edgeDecor, int, dir> Graph<edgeDecor, vertexDecor, dir>::Dijkstra(Vertex<edgeDecor, vertexDecor, dir>, bool)’ graph.h:36: error: after previous specification in ‘Graph<edgeDecor, int, dir> Graph<edgeDecor, vertexDecor, dir>::Dijkstra(Vertex<edgeDecor, vertexDecor, dir>, bool)’ Can anyone see why I'm getting this?

  • Implicit parameter in Scalaz

    - by Thomas Jung
    I try to find out why the call Ø in scalaz.ListW.<^> works def <^>[B: Zero](f: NonEmptyList[A] => B): B = value match { case Nil => Ø case h :: t => f(Scalaz.nel(h, t)) } My minimal theory is: trait X[T]{ def y : T } object X{ implicit object IntX extends X[Int]{ def y = 42 } implicit object StringX extends X[String]{ def y = "y" } } trait Xs{ def ys[T](implicit x : X[T]) = x.y } class A extends Xs{ def z[B](implicit x : X[B]) : B = ys //the call Ø } Which produces: import X._ scala> new A().z[Int] res0: Int = 42 scala> new A().z[String] res1: String = y Is this valid? Can I achieve the same result with fewer steps?

  • sql server 2005 - return single row when 2 records in right table

    - by Peanut
    Hi, I have two related sql server tables ... TableA and TableB. ***TableA - Columns*** TableA_ID INT VALUE VARCHAR(100) ***TableB - Columns*** TableB_ID INT TableA_ID INT VALUE VARCHAR(100) For every single record in TableA there are always 2 records in TableB. Therefore TableA has a one-to-many relationship with TableB. How could I write a single sql statement to join these tables and return a single row for each row in TableA that includes: a column for the VALUE column in the first related row in table B a column for the VALUE column in the second related row in table B? Thanks.

  • Calling unmanaged c++ code in C# Mixed with STL

    - by Turtle
    Hey, I want to call unmanaged c++ code in C# The function interface is like following(I simplified it to make it easy to understand) Face genMesh(int param1, int param2); Face is a struct defined as: struct Face{ vector<float> nodes; vector<int> indexs; } I googled and read the MSDN docs found ways to call simple c/c++ unmanged code in C#, also know how to hand the struct as return value. And My question is how to handle "vector". I did not find rules about mapping between vector and some types in C# Thanks!

  • symfony 2 verify type of data stored in a single column

    - by GRafoKI
    In my DB I have a column 'own_product' that contains 2 values ( quantity and name) In my Edit form I want to check if the first field (quantity) is string and positive or not. I added a new column 'type-prod' (int , string) this is my controller : $request = $this->container->get('request'); if ($request->getMethod() == 'POST') { $formel = $request->query->get('edit_formal'); $type_value = $formel['own_product']; //case int $type_int= $this ->getDoctrine() ->getEntityManager() ->getRepository('DHG\WelcomeBundle\Entity\type-prod') ->findOneBy(array('type' => 'int')); //case string $type_string = $this ->getDoctrine() ->getEntityManager() ->getRepository('DHG\WelcomeBundle\Entity\type-prod') ->findOneBy(array('type' => 'string')); if (isset($type_value) && $type_int && $type_value > 0 && is_int($type_value)) { echo 'Success'; } else echo 'error' ; } Thank you !

  • Looking for a syntactic shortcut for accessing dictionaries

    - by Sisiutl
    I have an abstract base class that holds a Dictionary. I'd like inherited classes to be able to access the dictionary fields using a convenient syntax. Currently I have lots of code like this: string temp; int val; if (this.Fields.TryGetValue("Key", out temp)) { if (int.TryParse(temp, out val)) { // do something with val... } } Obviously I can wrap this in utility functions but I'd like to have a cool, convenient syntax for accessing the dictionary fields where I can simply say something like: int result = @Key; Is there any way to do something like this in C# (3.5)?

  • j2ME setLocationListener()

    - by Jeff Catania
    I'm programming a GPS tracking system using the Motorola i335 running on Sprint's IDEN network. I'm using the javax.microedition.location api to find the GPS coordinates. To set up the updating, you use the [setLocationListener][1] method. I originally tried passing (listener,2,1,1). However there was too many invalid locations being received (where the GPS could not get the fix in the specified time), so I changed the parameters to (listener, 20, 20, 1). Now the system barely throws any invalid locations. My goal is to get the fastest number of updates that are realistic. Have any of you found a happy medium for parameters of this method? This is my first time using it so i'm trying to make as simple as i can.

  • Create a triangle out of stars using only recursion

    - by Ramblingwood
    I need to to write a method that is called like printTriangle(5);. We need to create an iterative method and a recursive method (without ANY iteration). The output needs to look like this: * ** *** **** ***** This code works with the iterative but I can't adapt it to be recursive. public void printTriangle (int count) { int line = 1; while(line <= count) { for(int x = 1; x <= line; x++) { System.out.print("*"); } System.out.print("\n"); line++; } } I should not that you cannot use any class level variables or any external methods. Thanks.

  • Different return value of an overridden class

    - by Samer Afach
    I have a simple but confusing question here. Is it legal to have a different return value type for overridden methods than the abstact ones defined in the base class?? I did that and the compiler didn't complain... could someone please explain? class MyBaseClass { int value; public: virtual int getValue() = 0; }; class MyClass : public MyBaseClass { double value; public: virtual double getValue(); // here!!! return is double, not int }; double MyClass::getValue() { return this->value; } The compiler totally accepted something similar (MSVC und MinGW)... could anyone please exaplain to what extent this is legal?

  • how do i round/trucate a number without using methods like math.round or %3f?

    - by user2923875
    So far I need to round a number that I inputted and get it to 3 decimal places without those methods. if(number !=(int)number){ number*=1000; number=(int)number; number=(double)number; number/=1000; System.out.println("-"+ number); } if(number ==(int)number){ System.out.println("-"+ number + "00"); } With that above, it will work for any input except the ones with 2 decimal places, like 12.34 . How do I make it work if i type 12.34 and displays 12.340?

  • UInt32 to IntPtr

    - by ffenix
    I have the following problem: public class ListenThread : SocketInvoke { [DllImport("Ws2_32", CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] public unsafe static extern UInt32 WSAWaitForMultipleEvents(UInt32 cEvents, IntPtr hEventObject, UInt32 fWaitAll, UInt32 dwTimeout, Boolean fAlertable); public void ListenConnections(NetSharedData data) { while (true) { unsafe { if (WSAWaitForMultipleEvents((UInt32)1, data.signal, (UInt32)0, (UInt32)100, false) != WSA_WAIT_TIMEOUT) { } } } } data.signal is a UInt32 how i can cast it to IntPtr?, i try: IntPtr signal = (IntPtr)data.signal; but it doesn't work because i need a pointer to data.signal (UInt32) type and not the int value as an pointer, that will make a memory exception. An C++ example of what i need: int signal = 0; int* psignal = &signal;

  • RAII: Initializing data member in const method

    - by Thomas Matthews
    In RAII, resources are not initialized until they are accessed. However, many access methods are declared constant. I need to call a mutable (non-const) function to initialize a data member. Example: Loading from a data base struct MyClass { int get_value(void) const; private: void load_from_database(void); // Loads the data member from database. int m_value; }; int MyClass :: get_value(void) const { static bool value_initialized(false); if (!value_initialized) { // The compiler complains about this call because // the method is non-const and called from a const // method. load_from_database(); } return m_value; } My primitive solution is to declare the data member as mutable. I would rather not do this, because it suggests that other methods can change the member. How would I cast the load_from_database() statement to get rid of the compiler errors?

  • Valid signed Hex to long function

    - by Ben
    I am trying to convert a 24bit Hexadecimal string (6 characters) signed in two's complement to a long int in C. This is the function I have come up with: long int hex2li (char string[]) { char *pEnd; long int result = strtol (string, &pEnd, 16); if (strcmp (pEnd, "") == 0) { if (toupper (string[0]) == 'F') { return result - 16777216; } else { return result; } } return LONG_MIN; } Is it valid? Is there a better way of doing this?
