  • Where is the root [closed]

    - by smwikipedia
I read the manual page of the "mount" command, at it reads as below: All files accessible in a Unix system are arranged in one big tree, the file hierarchy, rooted at /. These files can be spread out over several devices. The mount command serves to attach the file system found on some device to the big file tree. My question is: Where is this "big tree" located?

  • [Android] Is disabling landscape mode unforgivable?

    - by Nicolas Raoul
Our application could support landscape mode without any problem, but it is such a pain that we are thinking about forcing portrait mode. Question: Is it BAD? The main problem is that changing orientation generates random crashes on many screens. Avoiding those crashes would potentially allow us to spend more time on the core aspects of the app. Will the same crashes happen when users switch apps anyway? Also, are there landscape-oriented devices where our app will become useless?

  • How can I pass information between 2 different View Controllers?

    - by sagiftw
Hi, This is a simple question: I have 2 different view controllers, and each one has its own data stored in its .m file. I want to take a value, for instance, an integer value (int i=3;) that is declared in ViewController1 and pass it to ViewController2, so I will be able to use that value in the second view controller. Can anyone please tell me how to do it? Thanks in advance, Sagiftw

  • How to get the ID of the last insert.

    - by James Jeffery
I have an application and around 20 accounts are created per minute (on average). I need to implement a new feature which requires the ID of the last insert. I am using PDO. The question is, lets say 5 users create accounts at exactly the same time. Will it return the ID from the database for that users profile that was just created, or will it return the last insert? If you get what I mean.

  • Server-environment and configuration: How bad is fread() etc?

    - by zero
Hello dear commmunity, good day! I run a little site (now for several months ) that has users accessing big files, for download as well for streaming to the browser. It's fairly active, so assuming the worst, how bad is getting php to read the files that would be stored outside of the webroot and then getting it to echo it to a page dynamically for the browser to then read? My question is: how bad is fread() etc in this context!? zero

  • Convert to lowercase in a mod_rewrite rule.

    - by dreeves
I would like URLs like server.com/foo to be case-insensitive. But server.com/foo actually gets mod_rewrite'd to server.com/somedir/foo (Assume that all the files in "somedir" are lower case.) So the question is, how to accomplish a mod_rewrite like the following: RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/?$ somedir/convert_to_lowercase($1)

  • ActiveRecord find starts with

    - by robintw
Really simple question - how do I do a search to find all records where the name starts with a certain string in ActiveRecord. I've seen all sorts of bits all over the internet where verbatim LIKE SQL clauses are used - but from what I've heard that isn't the 'correct' way of doing it. Is there a 'proper' Rails way?

  • MySQLi - declaring variable after bind_param?

    - by Kerry
This may be a completely dumb question, but I've seen a couple examples declaring the variables AFTER putting them in bind_param: http://devzone.zend.com/article/686 I've never seen this done before and all my programming knowledge says I should define them before hand. Is this a valid/preferred way?

  • Input type "Text" to have a blurred text, which dissappears onFocus?

    - by Camran
Some websites have forms with input type="text". And inside these textboxes there is a blurred text, which says for example: "Enter your name here". And then onClick or OnFocus or whatever, the text dissappears and you can type into the textbox. Like the title of posting a question here at stackoverflow, same thing. How is this done easiest way? Would prefer if there was not too much js involved. Thanks

  • There's @interface in my @implementation — why is that?

    - by Mark McDonald
This is a pretty noobish question – I'm looking at some Cocoa sample code and there's @interface blocks in the .m files as well as the headers. For instance, in the AppDelegate class header, a UIWindow and UI navigation are defined as instance variables, but the @property declarations are actually made in the implementation file. Is there a functional reason for this, is it a stylistic choice, or… ?

  • Why is my input textbox extending outside margins in BlackBerry and Android, but not iOS?

    - by Dallas
I have an input field that is extending well beyond the rest of the page, but as the question alludes to, it appears fine in iOS. I am wondering if anyone has run into this issue. My search button, which in iOS is on the right of the search textbox, actually wraps to the next "line" on the other two platforms. I am not using a table, just inside a div, and the CSS isn't doing anything fancy. Any ideas?
