Alter header distance using fancyhdr in LaTeX

How can i change the distance between the bottom of the header and my page body using the fancyhdr package in LaTeX? At the moment they are like this:

Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION
This is text in the introduction

I would like it to be:

Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION

This is text in the introduction

I have tried changing \headheight with no success.
