Creating a secure SQL Server 2008 database environment

I am in the process of setting up a corporate SQL Server 2008 database. The data on this machine will be related to financial services. There will be low level traffic (not like your average investment broker's website). However, a secure data environment is very crucial.

What would I need to know / do in order to ensure that I have a secure database?
