How to pronounce "std" as in "std::vector"

In C++, the STL (standard template library) includes a namespace std that contains the many data structures and algorithms that we all know and love. I've always pronounced this namespace just like sexually transmitted diseases: S T D. But then I listened to this excellent series of lectures by Stephan T. Lavavej and he pronounces it "stood".

Which is the "correct" pronunciation or at least what is that most commonly used one?
