/etc/hosts modification does not properly working. What to do?

I have added these lines to the hosts file: 127.0.0.1 localhost adobe.com 127.0.0.1 adobe.com

It works perfectly on windows. But in Ubuntu 11.10 when I try to access it using Firefox the website is opening.

Google chrome though supporting /etc/hosts configuration. Google chrome is displaying : "It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet."
