i need help! im still new to this. i really need help, i have an imac.. (it's corrupted. when i try to open it, it shows a question mark alternating with a smiley)

i think it's vintage. haha. but i want to fix it. first, i think the hard drive is broken (pretty much corrupted) but i tried to install a xubuntu os on it because i don't have any other disc. but i think xubuntu is not compatible because i can't seem to get pass through the partitioning part. could some one please help..
