  • How do I bit shift a long by more than 32 bits?

    It seems like I should be able to perform bit shift in C/C++ by more than 32 bits provided the left operand of the shift is a long. But this doesn't seem to work, at least with the g++ compiler. Example: unsigned long A = (1L << 37) gives A = 0 which isn't what I want. Am I missing something or is this just not possible? -J

    Is this equivalent to a LEFT JOIN? SELECT DISTINCT a.name, b.name FROM tableA a, (SELECT DISTINCT name FROM tableB) as b It seems as though there is no link between the two tables. Is there an easier / more efficient way to write this?

  • Vectorizatoin of index operation for a scipy.sparse matrix

    The following code runs too slowly even though everything seems to be vectorized. from numpy import * from scipy.sparse import * n = 100000; i = xrange(n); j = xrange(n); data = ones(n); A=csr_matrix((data,(i,j))); x = A[i,j] The problem seems to be that the indexing operation is implemented as a python function, and invoking A[i,j] results in the following profiling output 500033 function calls in 8.718 CPU seconds Ordered by: internal time ncalls tottime percall cumtime percall filename:lineno(function) 100000 7.933 0.000 8.156 0.000 csr.py:265(_get_single_element) 1 0.271 0.271 8.705 8.705 csr.py:177(__getitem__) (...) Namely, the python function _get_single_element gets called 100000 times which is really inefficient. Why isn't this implemented in pure C? Does anybody know of a way of getting around this limitation, and speeding up the above code? Should I be using a different sparse matrix type?

    Hi, I have a simple XML extraction issue that should be solvable with straight PHP and not require any libraries. All I need to do is extract the values of one tag. For example, given the string of XML: <ResultSet xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" ....> <Result>Foo</Result> <Result>Bar</Result> </ResultSet> I just need to put Foo and Bar in an array. What is the easiest way to do this? Thanks!

    I'm working with a CMS system where I cannot control database column names. And I've got two related tables: Table: content +------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+ | content_id | column_1 | column_2 | column_3 | column_4 | +------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+ | 1 | stuff | junk | text | info | | 2 | trash | blah | what | bio | +------------+----------+----------+----------+----------+ Table: column_names +------------+-------------+ | column_id | column_name | +------------+-------------+ | 1 | good_text | | 2 | bad_text | | 3 | blue_text | | 4 | red_text | +------------+-------------+ What I'd like to do here is select from the first table, but select the columns AS the column_name from the second table.     I have a string value coming from a label in the .aspx page as following. string text = Price.Text; // Price.Text = "$31.07" Single value = Convert.ToSingle(text); //throws FormatException I can replace the $ sign with the empty text and then Convert to Single but I was wondering if there is better way to de-format the text with the '$' sign into a Single.

Example: <UserControl ... > <UserControl.CommandBindings> ... </UserControl.CommandBindings> <UserControl.Resources> ... </UserControl.Resources> </UserControl> I have a new list property defined in my user control: public partial class ArchetypeControl : UserControl { ... public List<Object> UICommands { get; set; } I want to add items to this list like I can with resources and CommandBindings, but when I do this: <c:ArchetypeControl.UICommands> </c:ArchetypeControl.UICommands> I get the error "Error 4 The attachable property 'UICommands' was not found in type 'ArchetypeControl'. " Suggestions? - Given the comments, I've created a test control to show the entire code and reproduce the problem.   • How to use JQuery UI datepicker with bgIframe on IE 6

    I am trying to use the JQuery UI datepicker (latest stable version 1.5.2) on an IE6 website. But I am having the usual problems with combo boxes (selects) on IE6 where they float above other controls. I have tried adding the bgIframe plugin after declaring the datepicker with no luck. My guess is that the .ui-datepicker-div to which I am attaching the bgIframe doesn't exist until the calendar is shown. I am wondering if I can put the .bgIframe() command directly into the datepicker .js file and if so, where? (the similar control by kelvin Luck uses this approach) Current code $(".DateItem").datepicker({ showOn:"button", ... etc ... }); $(".ui-datepicker-div").bgIframe();

  • leiningen - how to add dependencies for local jars?

    Hi, I want to use leiningen to build and develop my clojure project. Is there a way to modify project.clj to tell it to pick some jars from local directories? I have some proprietary jars that cannot be uploaded to public repos. Also, can leiningen be used to maintain a "lib" directory for clojure projects? If a bunch of my clojure projects share the same jars, I don't want to maintain a separate copy for each of them. Thanks

    I'll explain what i'm looking for in code as thats probably the most succinct: module Mixin def method puts "Foo" end end class Whatever include Mixin end w = Whatever.new w.method => "Foo" # some magic here w2 = Whatever.new w.method => NoMethodError I had tried just undefining the Mixin module using remove_const, but this doesn't seem to make any difference to Whatever. I had assumed that #include just added a reference to the module into the class's method resolution chain - but this behaviour doesn't agree with that. Can anyone tell me what include actually does behind the scenes, and how to reverse this?

However, I have not found a way to implement it. I am not allowed to use Postgres or any similar tool to keep my data neutralized. I want to have efficient merges, sorts and additions according to fileID, wordID or wordCount for the type below. However, the above code worked. I am using VC2005. When I entered the debugger, I saw that after it entered DLL_THREAD_ATTACH case when ul_reason_for_call = 1! How can that happen? If I add `break' at the end of DLL_PROCESS_ATTACH block, the DLL failed to work. How can this happen?

    I manage a Django site where we host the media on a subdomain. There shouldn't be any requests for media to the main domain. However I keep seeing these requests for "x.gif" showing up in the access logs on the domain that's handled by WSGI (not the media domain). Can anyone explain what this is?   • FreeBSD 8 Kernel Configuration Error Using the VESA Option

    I'm trying to reconfigure FreeBSD 8 (amd64) to allow for a high resolution terminal by following these instructions. The problem is that when I add the two lines: options VESA options SC_PIXEL_MODE and try to build: make buildkernel KERNCONF=VESAKERN I get the following error: /usr/src/sys/amd64/conf/VESAKERN: unknown option "VESA" and I have no idea why.
