  • transmit a java.lang.reflect.Proxy over a network

    Is there a convenient way to transmit an object including its code (the class) over a network (not just the instance data)? Don't ask me why I want to do this. It's in an assignment. I asked several times if that is really what they meant and the didn't rephrase their answer so I guess they really want us to transmit code (not just the field data) over a network. To be honest I have no clue why we need a Proxy in this assignment anyway, just writing a simple class would do IMO. The assignment says that we should instantiate the proxy on the server and transmit it to the client (and yes, they talk about a java.lang.reflect.Proxy, they name this class). Because there is no class file for a proxy I can't deploy that. I guess I would have to somehow read out the bytecode of the generated Proxy, transmit it to the client and then load it. Which makes absolutely no sense at all, but this seems what they want us to do. I don't get why.

  • User input in Perl with IO::Socket

    I am trying to make a perl program which allows a user to input the host and the port number of a foreign host to connect to using IO::Socket. It allows me to run the program and input a host and a port but it never connects and says "Could not connect to [host] at c:\users\USER\Documents\code\perl\sql.pl line 18, line 2." What am i doing wrong with this code shown below? And also, how can i have input validation on my host, which can either be a host name or an ip address? Thanks a bunch! What could be going wrong here?

  • How do I simplify these NUNit tests?

    These three tests are identical, except that they use a different static function to create a StartInfo instance. I have this pattern coming up all trough my testcode, and would love to be be able to simplify this using [TestCase], or any other way that reduces boilerplate code. To the best of my knowledge I'm not allowed to use a delegate as a [TestCase] argument, and I'm hoping people here have creative ideas on how to make the code below more terse. I don't want to force the whole site to use https by turning on require SSL in IIS. Can I use the IIS7 URL rewrite module to re-route http requests to https?

  • Manually Writing the HTML in TWebBrowser

    I am using the strategy suggested here: http://cc.embarcadero.com/Item/23992 to get my HTML in the TWebBrowser, but I get a bunch of JavaScript errors when the page loads. If I click yes enough times I can see a page with no formatting and I'm guessing the page does nothing. My theory is that because the links in the HTML are relative, the browser can't load any of it. I have switch from passing the URL, 'about:blank' to the navigate function, to passing the servers home page - in the hopes that some internal mechanism will be able to generate full paths, but no luck. Any one successfully been able to manually write HTML to the TWebBrowser.

  • Why would Visual Studio 2010 say it can't show a variable during debug?

    In Visual Studio 2010 sometimes when I want to get the value of a variable while debugging, it tells me that it "does not exist in this context" when it obviously does. I have found that if I use the variable, as in the screenshot below, then it is able to show it. Has anyone experienced this? Visual Studio 2008 never did this. How can I get Visual Studio 2010 to always show me variable values while debugging?

    Good day. I have a Types.hpp file in my project. And within it i have: .... namespace RC { ..... ..... struct ViewSettings { .... }; ..... } In the Server.cpp file I'm including this Types.hpp file, and i have there: class Session { ..... RC::ViewSettings tmp; boost::asio::async_read(socket_, boost::asio::buffer(&tmp, sizeof(RC::ViewSettings)), boost::bind(&Session::Finish_Reading_Data, shared_from_this(), boost::asio::placeholders::error)); ..... } And during the compilation i have an errors: error C2825: 'F': must be a class or namespace when followed by '::' : see reference to class template instantiation 'boost::_bi::result_traits<R,F>' being compiled with [ R=boost::_bi::unspecified, F=void (__thiscall Session::* )(void) ] : see reference to class template instantiation 'boost::_bi::bind_t<R,F,L>' being compiled with [ R=boost::_bi::unspecified, F=void (__thiscall Session::* )(void), L=boost::_bi::list2<boost::_bi::value<boost::shared_ptr<Session>>,boost::arg<1>> ] error C2039: 'result_type' : is not a member of '`global namespace'' And the code like this works in proper way: int w; boost::asio::async_read(socket_, boost::asio::buffer(&w, sizeof(int)), boost::bind(&Session::Handle_Read_Width, shared_from_this(), boost::asio::placeholders::error)); Please, help.   • accidentally concatenate a large file on a remote system

    Every once in a while on a computer I'm ssh'd into, I will accidentally type "cat largefile.txt" and my screen will start rushing with text for the next 10 minutes. I'm always working in a screen session, so my current solution is to just log out and then log back in, and since it can go 100X faster when I'm logged out, it'll finish in the short time it takes me to type my password in again. Is there a better way? Either involving the fact I'm in a screen session? Or a way to do this within SSH? What doesn't work: detaching from the screen session (doesn't respond until file is done outputting) trying command to move to a different window in the screen session (also doesn't respond) typing ctrl+C to kill cat command (also doesn't respond, probably because the command is done and the buffers just have to catch up)

  • What editor/viewer to use to inspect large text based files?

    Are there any text editors/viewers (preferably on windows but other platforms are also ok) that can handle files of 500 MB or more? The editors I checked so far (Notepad++, Notepad, Eclipse) all choked on files of that size. Edit: Many thanks for the great suggestions. I tried gvim as it was the top voted and was available on Windows. I opened the file in a reasonable time. After that scrolling and searching was very smooth as long as syntax highlighting was turned off. From the other editors mentioned TextPad and EmEditor both claim to be able to handle large files very well. EmEditor seems to be built exactly for editing large files. I'll probably try both and report back.

    In his FAQ @ http://www2.research.att.com/~bs/bs_faq.html#bootstrapping, Bjarne Stroustrup says: To build [Cfront, the first C++ compiler], I first used C to write a "C with Classes"-to-C preprocessor. "C with Classes" was a C dialect that became the immediate ancestor to C++... I then wrote the first version of Cfront in "C with Classes". When I read this, it piqued my interest in the C preprocessor. I'd seen its macro capabilities as suitable for simplifying common expressions but hadn't thought about its ability to significantly add to syntax and semantics on the level that I imagine bringing classes to C took. So now I have a couple of questions on my mind: 1) Are there other examples of this approach to bootstrapping a language off of C? 2) Is the source to Stroustrup's original work available anywhere? 3) Where could I learn more about the specifics of utilizing this technique? 4) What are the lengths/limits of that approach? Could one, say, create a set of preprocessor macros that let someone write in something significantly Lisp/Scheme like?
