  • git: programmatically know by how much the branch is ahead/behind a remote branch

    I would like to extract the information that is printed after a github status, which looks like: # On branch master # Your branch is ahead of 'origin/master' by 2 commits. Of course I can parse the output of git status but this is not recommended since this human readable output is liable to change. There are two problems: How to know the remote tracked branch? It is often origin/branch but need not be. How to get the numbers? How to know whether it is ahead/behind? By how many commits? And what about the diverged branch case?

  • What is the difference between IEditableObject and IRevertibleChangeTracking?

    What is the difference between IEditableObject and IRevertibleChangeTracking (both from the System.ComponentModel namespace)? It looks as if the first supports explicit transaction whilst the second is more implicit - but the net result is the same. How should I go about implementing this in code? At the moment I do nothing in BeginEdit and call RejectChanges and AcceptChanges in EndEdit and CancelEdit respectively. My problem is that this will also accept the changes made prior to the BeginEdit. Is that really what MS wanted or am I trying to implement two mutually exclusive interfaces?

    int epoll_wait(int epfd, struct epoll_event *events, int maxevents, int timeout); I'm a little confused about the maxevents parameter. Let's say I want to write a server that can handle up to 10k connections. Would I define maxevents as 10000 then, or should it be be lower for some reason?

  • Most efficient way to bind a Listbox with SelectionMode=Multiple

    Hi, I have an ASP.NET webform that has a listbox (lbxRegions) with multi-select option enabled. In my db, I have a table with an xml field that holds a list of regions. I need to populate the listbox with all available regions and then "check off" the list items that match the regions in the db table. The list options also need to be ordered by region name. So, I wrote the following code that works just fine -- no problems. But I was wondering if anyone can think of a better (more succinct, more efficient) way to have done the same thing.   • Sending an AJAX Request - Can't get to work

    I'm trying to make an AJAX GET request, but I simply cannot get it to work. I want to retrieve the HTML source of example.com. I've previously used JQuery to send AJAX requests, but I use JQuery only for its AJAX capabilities so it's a waste to include the 30KB file for one task.     Hey everyone, I'm working with Collada files and I need them to be a certain size. When instantiating them in pv3d you set the filename, materials, and scale. Scale works like a percentage, and there's no way to get the width, height, or depth of the DAE once in flash. I want to be able to specify the size of DAE in 3D space relative to other pv3d native geometry.

  • How do I tell the difference between a success that is preceded by a momentary failure and failure?

    When I'm trying out a new technology, I often fail. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I continue to fail. So, in the first few moments after I try a new technology and experience failure, I cannot tell if I am on the path to success and have just experienced a momentary failure or if I am going to fail. I am wondering if anyone has a way to tell the difference between these two scenarios.

  • Shorter Binding expression with validation

    Hi, I'm repeating same binding parameters for every textbox and they're quite long strings (which is not good for many reasons). And I'm wondering if there's a way to make them shorter? For instance all my controls on forms are using the following binding template: Text="{Binding SourceProperty, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged, ValidatesOnExceptions=True, ValidatesOnDataErrors=True, NotifyOnValidationError=True}" I'd would like to have something shorter that ideally will take SourceProperty as parameter. Possbly like this: Text="{MyBinding SourceProperty}" or Text="{Binding SourceProperty, Params=MyParams}" One possible option would be to inherit from Binding and create new markup extension. Did someone tried this? Any other ideas how to make these repetetive bindings look better?

    I have 2 tables, that look like: CustomerInfo(CustomterID, CustomerName) CustomerReviews(ReviewID, CustomerID, Review, Score) I want to search reviews for a string and return CustomerInfo.CustomerID and CustomerInfo.CustomerName. However, I only want to show distinct CustomerID and CustomerName along with just one of their CustomerReviews.Reviews and CustomerReviews.Score. I also want to order by the CustomerReviews.Score. I can't figure out how to do this, since a customer can leave multiple reviews, but I only want a list of customers with their highest scored review. Any ideas?

  • rsyncing - ignoring checksums

    Trying to copy a bunch of data over and time, unfortunately, is of the essence. I'd like to do an rsync of all the data in one direction, pretty much rsync just clobbers what's over on the destination server. Is there a way to do an rsync and just say, "overwrite all files" Is there a better way of doing this? We're talking 500GB of data that only has to go in one direction.

  • EF/LINQ: Where() against a property of a subtype

    I have a set of POCOs, all of which implement the following simple interface: interface IIdObject { int Id { get; set; } } A subset of these POCOs implement this additional interface: interface IDeletableObject : IIdObject { bool IsDeleted { get; set; } } I have a repository hierarchy that looks something like this: IRepository<T <: BasicRepository<T <: ValidatingRepository<T (where T is IIdObject) I'm trying to add a FilteringRepository to the hierarchy such that all of the POCOs that implement IDeletableObject have a Where(p => p.IsDeleted == false) filter applied before any other queries take place. My goal is to avoid duplicating the hierarchy solely for IDeletableObjects. My first attempt looked like this: public override IQueryable<T> Query() { return base.Query().Where(t => ((IDeletableObject)t).IsDeleted == false); } This works well with LINQ to Objects, but when I switch to an EF backend I get: "LINQ to Entities only supports casting Entity Data Model primitive types." I went on to try some fancier parameterized solutions, but they ultimately failed because I couldn't make T covariant in the following case for some reason I don't quite understand: interface IQueryFilter<out T> // error { Expression<Func<T, bool>> GetFilter(); } I'd be happy to go into more detail on my more complicated solutions if it would help, but I think I'll stop here for now in hope that someone might have an idea for me to try.   • How do I select the shallowest matching elements with XPath?

    Let's say I have this document. <a:Root> <a:A> <title><a:B/></title> <a:C> <item><a:D/></item> </a:C> </a:A> </a:Root> And I have an XmlNode set to the <a:A> element. If I say A.SelectNodes( "//a:*", namespaceManager ) I get B, C, and D. But I don't want D because it's nested in another "a:" element. If I say A.SelectNodes( "//a:*[not(ancestor::a:*)]", namespaceManager ) of course, I get nothing, since both A and its parent are in the "a" namespace. How can I select just B and C, that is, the shallowest children matching the namespace? Thanks. Note, this is XPath 1.0 (.NET 2), so I can't use in-scope-prefixes (which it appears would help).

  • PostgreSQL: How to index all foreign keys?

    I am working with a large PostgreSQL database, and I are trying to tune it to get more performance. Our queries and updates seem to be doing a lot of lookups using foreign keys. What I would like is a relatively simple way to add Indexes to all of our foreign keys without having to go through every table (~140) and doing it manually. In researching this, I've come to find that there is no way to have Postgres do this for you automatically (like MySQL does), but I would be happy to hear otherwise there, too.

Now, one portion of the sprite needs to be repeated vertically. I was trying the following code... #page-wrapper {   margin: 0px auto;   background-image: url(../images/background.png);   height: 100%;   width: 1000px; } #page-wrapper #content {   background-position: 0px -80px;   background-repeat: repeat-y;   height: 1px; } I am confused in the height property of content class.   • In C# should I reuse a function / property parameter to compute temp result or create a temporary v

    The example below may not be problematic as is, but it should be enough to illustrate a point. Imagine that there is a lot more work than trimming going on. public string Thingy { set { // I guess we can throw a null reference exception here on null. value = value.Trim(); // Well, imagine that there is so much processing to do this.thingy = value; // That this.thingy = value.Trim() would not fit on one line ... So, if the assignment has to take two lines, then I either have to abusereuse the parameter, or create a temporary variable. I am not a big fan of temporary variables. On the other hand, I am not a fan of convoluted code. I did not include an example where a function is involved, but I am sure you can imagine it. One concern I have is if a function accepted a string and the parameter was "abused", and then someone changed the signature to ref in both places - this ought to mess things up, but ... who would knowingly make such a change if it already worked without a ref? Seems like it is their responsibility in this case. If I mess with the value of value, am I doing something non-trivial under the hood? If you think that both approaches are acceptable, then which do you prefer and why? Thanks.

    Hey'all How do I cast a li dom element as HtmlControl from an ASP type object? I tried it like this: var li = (HtmlControl)sender; I get a InvalidCastException... The thing is, I want to make the li (a tab) clickable, and then update an UpdatePanel... But when I start like this <li id="li" runat="server" onclick="tab2_Click"> FooBar </li> I get an error because the object is not defined... how to cast?
