  • OS specific network delay, why?

    - by Atilla Filiz
Since my new ISP installed their own router to my house(I rented a room in a student house so don't have much control on these), I started having strange delays. Any outgoing connection I do, be it http or ssh, is delayed for several seconds, and once it is established, I have no further problems. I open several simultaneous tabs in my browser and after about 5 to 8 seconds, they all connect and load simultaneously and quiet fast. I can actually play online games once I connect. What's more interesting is, I experience this only with Linux distros, namely Arch and some versions of Ubuntu. Access with Windows installs are quiet normal. What might be wrong with my router? Everything was fine with my old router but I have to use this one now.

  • Message sent to deallocated instance which has never been released

    - by Jakub
Hello, I started dealing with NSOperations and (as usual with concurrency) I'm observing strange behaviour. In my class I've got an instance variable: NSMutableArray *postResultsArray; when one button in the UI is pressed I initialize the array: postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; and setup the operations (together with dependencies). In the operations I create a custom object and try to add to the array: PostResult *result = [[PostResult alloc] initWithServiceName:@"Sth" andResult:someResult]; [self.postResultsArray addObject:result]; and while adding I get: -[CFArray retain]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3b40c30 which is strange as I don't release the array anywhere in my code (I did, but when the problem started to appear I commented all the release operations to be sure that they are not the case). I also used to have @synchronized section like below: PostResult *result = [[PostResult alloc] initWithServiceName:@"Sth" andResult:someResult]; @synchronized (self.postResultsArray) { [self.postResultsArray addObject:result]; } but the problem was the same (however, the error was for the synchronized operation). Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

  • Using Kate with Simple Build Tool (SBT)

    - by Stefan
Hello I am working with the Kate editor based on the lack of other good tools for Scala development, I am also using IntelliJ however it still has some bugs, and are slow enough to make me impatient. I have just startet using both Kate and SBT, and in that regard I have a little challenge I hope there is an answer for out there on "The Internet". I am using the standard "Build plugin" in Kate and has changed the commands from make to sbt. This works fine, and I am also getting a error report when the sbt fails during compile time. However I really wish to know if it is possible to integrate the compile errors into Kate such that it would be shown under "Errors and Warnings" instead of just in the output tab, where I have to do a manual search for the compile errors. Im guessing that it has something to do with the format of the output, if that is the case maybe it is "just" a smaller adjustment I need to make to the parsing language.

  • Programmatically refresh Windows Explorer (not IE) window

    - by awj
I'm using a Windows Service to do some directory cleaning (implementing a FileSystemWatcher). The problem I'm having is that sometimes, when several files in a directory are deleted, one of the files still shows in the Explorer window. If you refresh the window the file disappears. Similarly, if you right-click on it or try to copy it, a pop-up informs that it no longer exists. So what I'd like to know is: is there any way I can programmatically refresh the view of the Explorer window?

  • Read and Step into .Net Framework Source Code

    - by ChloeRadshaw
I did ask whether this was possible in 2008 which was answered in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1296840/read-and-step-into-net-framework-source-code. However my problem is that I am using 2005 and not 2008. Does anyone know whether this is possible please?? The reason I want to do this is to better understand C# paradigms. With Java this is possible and I learnt a tremendous amount by being able to read code written by engineers

  • resource_controller get rid of setting flash notice?

    - by goodwill
I am talking about rails resource_controller gem plugin here: Basically when I am doing json format, I would like to completely suppress the flash notice if possible, trying to call flash "" will fail, while calling flash[:notice]="" doesn't look really nice either. Is there some better approach?

  • Iphone Orientation Change

    - by SG
I am trying to implement orientation change functionality in my application.I have overrided -(void) didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation. In this method i change the frame size of the tableview(including the position of the cell items) which is present in the view. The tableview Details: Added to the view as [self.view addSubView:tableView] in the viewDidLoad method of the view controller; Cell item (row) has a textfield and a segmented control. There are 10 cells in the table view and in landscape mode only 2 cells are visible and in potrait mode 5 cells are visible. I have implemented scroller. Issue: Certain times on changing the orientation to potrait mode certain segmented controls in the cell are not rendered (Not shown at all). This happens when i am viewing the last couple of cells in the landscape mode and i change the orientation to potrait mode.

  • How can I specify the character encoding to be used by OLEDB when querying a DBF?

    - by Manga Lee
Is it possible to specify which character encoding should be used by OLEDB when querying a DBF file? A possible work-around would be to encode the query string before the OLEDB call to the DBF file's character encoding and then encode all the results when they are returned. This will work but it would be nice if OLEDB or possibly ADO.NET could do this for me. UPDATE The suggestion by Viktor Jevdokimov does not seem to work automatically. But it made me investigate manual conversion of the strings. It is possible to use the TextInfo property of CultureInfo to find out the OemCodePage and the WindowsCodePage and use those to get the corresponding Encoding instances to perform manual conversion. But I can not get ADO.NET use these encondings to perform the conversion for me.

  • Tuning recommendations from mysqltuner.pl: query_cache_limit

    - by knorv
    The mysqltuner.pl script gives me the following recommendation: query_cache_limit (> 1M, or use smaller result sets) And MySQL status output shows: mysql> SHOW STATUS LIKE 'Qcache%'; +-------------------------+------------+ | Variable_name | Value | +-------------------------+------------+ | Qcache_free_blocks | 12264 | | Qcache_free_memory | 1001213144 | | Qcache_hits | 3763384 | | Qcache_inserts | 54632419 | | Qcache_lowmem_prunes | 0 | | Qcache_not_cached | 6656246 | | Qcache_queries_in_cache | 55280 | | Qcache_total_blocks | 122848 | +-------------------------+------------+ 8 rows in set (0.00 sec) From the status output above, how can I judge whether or nor the suggested increase in query_cache_limit is needed?

  • UnsatisfiedLinkError: The specified procedure could not be found

    - by matt
I'm writing some JNI code in C++ to be called from an applet on Windows XP. I've been able to successfully run the applet and have the JNI library loaded and called, even going so far as having it call functions in other DLLs. I got this working by setting up the PATH system environment variable to include the directory all of my DLLs are in. So, the problem, is that I add another call that uses a new external DLL, and suddenly when loading the library, an UnsatisfiedLinkError is thrown. The message is: 'The specified procedure could not be found'. This doesn't seem to be a problem with a missing dependent DLL, because I can remove a dependent DLL and get a different message about dependent DLL missing. From what I've been able to find online, it appears that this message means that a native Java function implementation is missing from the DLL, but it's odd that it works fine without this extra bit of code. Does anyone know what might be causing this? What kinds of things can give a 'The specified procedure could not be found' messages for an UnsatisifedLinkError?

  • supply inputs to python unittests

    - by zubin71
I`m relatively new to the concept of unit-testing and have very little experience in the same. I have been looking at lots of articles on how to write unit-tests; however, I still have difficulty in writing tests where conditions like the following arise:- Test user Input. Test input read from a file. Test input read from an environment variable. Itd be great if someone could show me how to approach the above mentioned scenarios; itd still be awesome if you could point me to a few docs/articles/blog posts which I could read.

  • Make any posible combination of one string with php

    - by Johan
    I need an algorithm that return all possible combination of all characters in one string. I've tried: $langd = strlen($input); for($i = 0;$i < $langd; $i++){ $tempStrang = NULL; $tempStrang .= substr($input, $i, 1); for($j = $i+1, $k=0; $k < $langd; $k++, $j++){ if($j > $langd) $j = 0; $tempStrang .= substr($input, $j, 1); } $myarray[] = $tempStrang; } But that only returns the same amount combination as the length of the string. Say the $input is = "hey", the result would be: hey, hye, eyh, ehy, yhe, yeh.

  • Control Philips Living Colors using PC

    - by CrazyChris
Hi guys, is there a way (hardware/software-combination) that I can use to control one or more "Philips Living Colors" lamps using a PC - e.g. a USB-stick that acts as the "remote". This way i could control the lamp through software (e.g. a web-app - over iPhone / remotely) or even create what Philips builds into some of their TVs and calls "ambilight" (graphics driver detecting the main color to control the lamp). I guess this is more like a hardware than a software question - but I couldn't find anything about this online and I'm sure not to be the first to have come up with this idea right when I unpacked my LivingColors lamp yesterday ;) Any idea/hint is appreciated. -chris

  • SMTP Verb Error on MSExchange Server 2003

    - by Jason Adams
Hi, Every morning for the last two weeks or more I've had to reboot our Exchange Server and often I have to reboot it again during the day. We use a smarthost for sending our mail out and if I view the queues on Exhange System Manager the Small Business SMTP Connector is in a retry state with "The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink". I turned logging up to maximum on ExchangeTransport and the only non-information event in EventViewer is “Message delivery to the host '62.13.128.187' failed while delivering to the remote domain 'mail.authsmtp.com' for the following reason: The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink. The SMTP verb which caused the error is 'x-exps'. The response from the remote server is ''.” I stopped using the smarthost during the error condition and all I got was lots of small business connector connections with the same error. I can telnet into mail.authsmtp.com and send a mail during the error state. Any pointers would be gratefully received.

  • VMWare Server :: VM set to 2gb RAM but vmware process shows 100mb physical, 1900mb virtual

    - by brad
I've set up a VMWare instance to run CastIron Integration Appliance. I allocated 2gb of memory to the instance, assuming it would take this as physical memory (my server has 8gb total). When I view top however on the server, the vmware-vmx process has about 100m Resident memory and 1900m Virtual. Running CastIron it reports that the appliance often hits 50% memory usage. Does this mean I'm using 900mb of harddrive space as memory? I wanted VMWare to use 2gb of physical memory, no swap. Can anyone tell me how to achieve this? Setup Debian Lenny 5.0.3 VMWare Server 2.0.2

  • "could not find suitable fingerprints matched to available hardware" error

    - by Alex
I have a thinkpad t61 with a UPEK fingerprint reader. I'm running ubuntu 9.10, with fprint installed. Everything works fine (I am able to swipe my fingerprint to authenticate any permission dialogues or "sudo" prompts successfully) except for actually logging onto my laptop when I boot up or end my session. I receive an error below the gnome login that says "Could not locate any suitable fingerprints matched to available hardware." What is causing this? here are the contents of /etc/pam.d/common-auth file # # /etc/pam.d/common-auth - authentication settings common to all services # # This file is included from other service-specific PAM config files, # and should contain a list of the authentication modules that define # the central authentication scheme for use on the system # (e.g., /etc/shadow, LDAP, Kerberos, etc.). The default is to use the # traditional Unix authentication mechanisms. # # As of pam 1.0.1-6, this file is managed by pam-auth-update by default. # To take advantage of this, it is recommended that you configure any # local modules either before or after the default block, and use # pam-auth-update to manage selection of other modules. See # pam-auth-update(8) for details. # here are the per-package modules (the "Primary" block) auth sufficient pam_fprint.so auth [success=1 default=ignore] pam_unix.so nullok_secure # here's the fallback if no module succeeds auth requisite pam_deny.so # prime the stack with a positive return value if there isn't one already; # this avoids us returning an error just because nothing sets a success code # since the modules above will each just jump around auth required pam_permit.so # and here are more per-package modules (the "Additional" block) auth optional pam_ecryptfs.so unwrap # end of pam-auth-update config #auth sufficient pam_fprint.so #auth required pam_unix.so nullok_secure

  • Tutorial on making a picture like this in Photoshop

    - by Saif Bechan
I always wanted to make a background like this but I could never find a tutorial on this. I also do not know what the effect is called so it makes it even harder for me to find. This is the effect I am talking about, at the background. Does anyone know whats it called, or does anyone have a tutorial on this?

  • Join ACM, join IEEE, or read programming books?

    - by Laura
I read blogs and listen to podcasts, and I own many of the "classic" programming books. For the money, what kind of printed material would you say is the most valuable to keep current in software engineering -- books, or magazines from professional organizations such as ACM and IEEE? Which organization has the best periodicals?
