• How to select all text inside text area of code field on web pages

  In all the forums web pages the download links are given inside the [code] braces that looks like text area with white background. When the download links are in large numbers then there are scroll bars. I find it difficult to scroll up and then select and then drag down to select all links. Is there any way to select all , when I click on select all on right click then it usually selects the text from whole page not from that code segment

• Quickly translate a word from English

  I'm always reading English, but I'm a Spanish native speaker (I'm working on my thesis). Sometimes I need to translate a word into Spanish, and what I do now is to open a new tab and go to Google Translate and then put the word into the input field. Just a quick translation, one word or a small phrase. I'm a Mac and Firefox user. Is there a better way to achieve this? I was thinking that maybe a dashboard widget would do the trick and I was looking for one. The other option is to install the Google Toolbar, but I really hate toolbars. I don't know, a good Firefox extension maybe?

• Set Final Cut Express Sequence Options to 970p30

  Hi I have an project in FCE which was recorded in MPEG-4 video in 1280 x 960 (1,4MB/s) and whenever I import those mov files to FCE thez show just fine. but when i add the clips to the timeline (sequence) the quality is cropped - instead of HD i can onlz export the timeline with quicktime conversion and a resolution of 720 x 480. can anybody help me out and tell me how i can export the timeline in full HD quality (as the raw material itself is)?

  Hello, I had installed reinstalled windows and ubuntu various times. Now Everything is set and I want to edit grub to set windows 7 as my default os when I run this command gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst I get an error that No such file or Directory found` then I tried this sudo grub find /boot/grub/stage1 I get an error No File found. Can anybody help me how can I change my default os? // Edited ls -a /boot/grub Thank You

• How to ask the boss to pay for qualifications?

  Hi, I'm working as a junior developer for a startup company, and have been working here around 7 months now. After 4 months, we had a late quarterly review, and just before the boss mentioned there was a training budget, and we should let them know what training we needed and they'd get it for us. I asked for some training at the time, but 3 months have passed without mention of it, and I have since learnt what I needed in my own time (I just can't stop learning new things!) I took on a new role recently, so have been given some cheap ($60) training for that however. Now the next review is approaching, and I would like to get Adobe Qualified Expert qualifications for ActionScript 3 / Flex. I was told by a contracted co-worker who had left that I should try to get the company to pay for this, as it's something they can tell potential investors as a selling point. My question is though; how do I approach this with my boss? I don't want it to sound like I'm looking for another job and want the qualifications to look elsewhere!

• Finding Telecommuting Opportunities as a Recent College Graduate

  Reading the answers to hiring practices of remote vs. local employees and freelance programming sites, I would like to add this question to the mix. I am a recent college graduate from an electrical engineering background with 2 years worth of work terms in programming (C, C++, VBA, Matlab, etc.) while I was still in school. While I am interested in learning other software tools (such as Python, Ruby on Rails, Javascript, etc.), I want to use the tools I have now in a telecommuting role while I grow my toolset. Despite having 2 years of work experience (and I've lost track of when I have started programming), my status as a recent college graduate may be an obstacle of my credibility to compete for telecommuting (or in fact any) programming opportunities. I don't know how I can go about finding telecommute programming opportunities for someone with my situation. Overall, many of previous places I've worked at liked my work. What are your suggestions? • Can I use standard tools to get the full name of a process, when its name has embedded spaces?

  I understand that it may be a rare situation for an executable to have spaces in it, but it could happen. An example may be the best explanation.. Using standard tools, I want to determine the location (on the file system) of the executable which owns(?) the current window... get the current window ID ...(xdotool getactivewindow ) use the ID to get the PID ...(wmctrl -p -l | sed ... ID .... use the PID to get the executable's name ... (ps -A ... here is where I run into problems ! Whith ps, when listing only the executable's name (-o ucmd), it truncates the name to 15 characters, so this rules out this option for any name which is longer. Widening the column (-o ucmd:99 ) makes no difference.. If pgrep is anything to go by, its matching is limited to 15 because of stat (see: info pgrep).. Listings in variants of "full" mode (eg -A w w) are not useful when the name concerned has spaces in it, because this name is separated from its args by another space!.. Also, in "full" mode, if the process was started by a link, the name of the link is shown, rather than the executable's name. Is there some way to do this (using standard tools)? ...or are spaces a show stopper here?

• Is there a way to suppress one specific message from syslog?

  I'm getting a lot of Dec 27 08:35:49 htpc kernel: [ 1552.153797] pciehp 0000:00:1c.5:pcie04: Card not present on Slot(0-2) Dec 27 08:35:49 htpc kernel: [ 1552.157744] pciehp 0000:00:1c.5:pcie04: Card present on Slot(0-2) messages in my syslog, about 10 every second. That just makes syslog unusable, can I somehow get rid of them? I don't know and don't really care about the reason of those messages being there, partly because my motherboard doesn't have pcie slots on it and partly because everything I care about works perfectly. That might be a WiFi chip I disabled in bios but hey, I don't want wifi to be powered on, I'm not using it. So can I just suppress those messages?

• Should I use subdomains or subfolders for my user groups?

  Hello, I run a photography website where each user has its own subdomain (i.e. user.site.com). I'm thinking of adding user groups but I'm unable to decide if I should also associate a separate subdomain or simply a subfolder for each group: Subfolders (www.site.com/groups/my-group) Pros: Easier to maintain from a tehnical p.o.v. Cons: Harder to memorize. The URLs can get really long (www.site.com/groups/my-group/albums/my-album/) Subdomains (my-group.site.com) Pros: Easier to memorize. Shorter URLs. One might have the impression that such an URL is somewhat more "independent" from the main site. Cons: Group and user names belong to the same name space, so we need to check for collisions when creating a new user/group. One cannot determine the content of the page by only reading the URL: Is x.site.com a user page or a group page? What's your opinion on the matter? I should note that DeviantArt.com uses the 2nd option (that's where I got the idea). Thank you in advance!

• Delphi: How to localize description for a menu shortcut?

  Is there a way to get a localized description of a shortcut like Ctrl+Z so that I get "Ctrl+Z" if the app runs on an English system and "Strg+Z" on a German system? The VCL function ShortCutToText isn't internationalized. The API function GetKeyNameText is a bit better but still not perfect: If one switches the regional settings of a German XP to English (US), it still produces German texts. Besides the results are in CAPITALS which is ugly. Clarification: I know how I can replace ShortCutToText or the Smkc* resource strings with customized versions. But to use that I need the translated strings. And I would like to get these from the OS (or similar). Update: It looks like Microsoft expects developers to do the translation on their own - see 2. in Associating a Menu Item with an Accelerator Key.

  Hello everyone. The Cocoa framework has a convention to always call self = [super init] in the init method of an inherited class, because [super init] may return a new instance. What will happen if I do this? @interface MyClass : NSObject /* or any other class */ { int ivar_; } @end @implementation MyClass - (id)init { ivar_ = 12345; if ((self = [super init])) { NSLog(@"ivar_'s value is %d", ivar_); } return self; } @end In the case when [super init] returns a new instance, what will I see in the console? ivar_'s value is 0? I can't think of a way to check this myself, because I don't know which class may return a new instance from its init method. Also, can't seem to find explicit clarification for this scenario in the docs. Could anyone help me out? Thanks!

  Hello, I have a problem acessing a IBOutlet. I have a NIB inside which there is a tableview, a toolbar and an UILabel (encasulated into a view). The controller (that is the file's owner) is defined as : @interface ChoixPeriodeController : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate> { IBOutlet UILabel* __periodeInitialeLabel; } @property(nonatomic, retain) UILabel* periodeInitialeLabel; - (void) setSelectedPeriode:(Tache_TypePeriode)typePeriode; In the .m file, this function is called by the parent window to init the Label : - (void) setSelectedPeriode:(Tache_TypePeriode)typePeriode { NSMutableString* tmpString = [NSMutableString string]; [tmpString appendFormat:bla bla bla;....]; self.periodeInitialeLabel.text = tmpString; } Into this function, I can see that self.periodeInitialeLabel is at nil. I can't see why ? Everything is connected into IB... Do you see what can be the problem ?

• Throwing cats out of windows

  Imagine you're in a tall building with a cat. The cat can survive a fall out of a low story window, but will die if thrown from a high floor. How can you figure out the longest drop that the cat can survive, using the least number of attempts? Obviously, if you only have one cat, then you can only search linearly. First throw the cat from the first floor. If it survives, throw it from the second. Eventually, after being thrown from floor f, the cat will die. You then know that floor f-1 was the maximal safe floor. But what if you have more than one cat? You can now try some sort of logarithmic search. Let's say that the build has 100 floors and you have two identical cats. If you throw the first cat out of the 50th floor and it dies, then you only have to search 50 floors linearly. You can do even better if you choose a lower floor for your first attempt. Let's say that you choose to tackle the problem 20 floors at a time and that the first fatal floor is #50. In that case, your first cat will survive flights from floors 20 and 40 before dying from floor 60. You just have to check floors 41 through 49 individually. That's a total of 12 attempts, which is much better than the 50 you would need had you attempted to use binary elimination. In general, what's the best strategy and it's worst-case complexity for an n-storied building with 2 cats? What about for n floors and m cats? Assume that all cats are equivalent: they will all survive or die from a fall from a given window. Also, every attempt is independent: if a cat survives a fall, it is completely unharmed. This isn't homework, although I may have solved it for school assignment once. It's just a whimsical problem that popped into my head today and I don't remember the solution. Bonus points if anyone knows the name of this problem or of the solution algorithm.

Is this possible with Gtk? Or can I use the Python Lock objects from threading?

  i need a regular expressions string to get all anchor tags in a page with a specific css class name, in c#/vb.net this is what i got so far "<a.*?href=""(.*?)"".*?>(.*?)</a>" but my attempts to add "class=name" isnt working, also is it possible to find links where the class name appears either before or after the href with one expression ? i am familiar with 3rd party html libraries, but thats an overkill for what i have in mind, so is the webbrowser control.

• Flexible CMS for non-programmers

  Hello! I'm looking for a content management system that allows creating single pages out of predefined blocks flexibly. For example I have a "product" block that is used to show producs on a page and it may appear numerous times on one page with different contents. But I also might wanna use it on different pages. Also I have simply generic blocks like multiple column text blocks (1 col, 2 col etc.) where I just want to insert this kind of structure into the page and enter any text. So I'm looking for a cms with someething like a building block / module concept for contents. I'm already searching the web but there are so many CMSs that I can't look into every one. So if anyone knows a solution that might be right for me, please tell me! Technology-wise it just has to run on Linux. If it's OpenSource / free that's great, but I might also pay for it, if it offers the features I want. Thanks for any hints in advance!

• WP Oembed not passing through the “autoplay=1” variable

  Hi guys, I'm having a problem here.. I am passing this through a custom field: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6P1Q-UycHA&autoplay=1 (notice the "autoplay=1") But when I load the video on my theme using wp_oembed_get... it displays the video fine, but it does not listen to the "autoplay=1" variable I am passing through.   Active record is a neet concept but sometimes I find it difficult to get more complicated queries to work. I find this is at least one place the CI docs are lacking. Anyway, This is the sql I wrote. It returns the expected results of quests not yet completed by the user that are unlocked and within the users level requirements: SELECT writing_quests . * FROM `writing_quests` LEFT OUTER JOIN members_quests_completed ON members_quests_completed.quest_id = writing_quests.id LEFT OUTER JOIN members ON members.id = $user_id WHERE writing_quests.unlocked =1 AND writing_quests.level_required <= $userlevel AND members_quests_completed.user_id IS NULL This is the codeigniter active record query, it returns all quests that are unlocked and within the users level requirement: $this->db->select('writing_quests.*'); $this->db->from('writing_quests'); $this->db->join('members_quests_completed', 'members_quests_completed.quest_id = writing_quests.id', 'left outer'); $this->db->join('members', "members.id = $user_id", 'left outer'); $this->db->where('writing_quests.unlock', 1); $this->db->where('writing_quests.level_required <=', $userlevel); $this->db->where('members_quests_completed.user_id is null', null, true); I'm guessing there is something wrong with the way I am asking for Nulls. I have to login to a remote server(windows 2003) and open up Sql Management Studio and Log on to the another server(SQL server using the IP address). I have to open a specific store procedure and change one of the parameter to true and exceute the stored Procedure. I know it is very easy to accomplish but, where do I start? • Can I cache a ManyToOne hibernate object without it being lazy loaded?

Can I get it so that it will read the play object from a cache without making it lazy loading? Am I correct that eager loading will force it to do a join query and hence no caching?
