  • There is a commercial tool like Xen + Remus?

    Hello, I have a project where we need a completely redundant system like the one offered by Remus with a Xen virtualization system. I wondered if there is a system like this one built by VMWare or some other company because the project is a very critical one and we do not want to have to wait that a bug is fixed by "the community" and money is not a problem. What Remus does is to build a completely redundant system where you can shutdown one machine and the other continues the work where the other left it maintaining the network connections opened, etc Any hint?   • In java can i have more than one class/object in a file?

    So the way i've been told to do things is you have your file and the file name is Classname.java and then the code is something like this: class ClassName { SOME METHODS main {} } and then thats all. I'd like to have two objects defined and used within the same .java file. (i don't want to have to put the other class in a difernt file just because i'd like to send this to someone and i want to avoid hasstle of atatching multiple files to an email [the lazy do make good programers though if you think about it]) is it possible to do this? do i have to do anything special and if so what? what are some mistakes i'm likely to make or that you have made in the past when doing this?

    Hey guys, I am just trying to pull all the records from my database who have a rec_date (varchar) stored as m/d/Y and are expired (as in, less than curdate()), and this call isn't giving me what I want: SELECT member_id, status, DATE_FORMAT(STR_TO_DATE(rec_date, '%m/%d/%Y'), '%Y-%m-%d') AS rec FROM members WHERE rec_date CURDATE() AND status = '1' I'm obviously doing something wrong, so can you help?   • Whats the best way/event to use when testing if the textbox text has finished a change of text

    using winforms, c#, vs 2008 So i have textbox1, textbox2 and textbox3 on a winforms. Textbox3.text = textbox1.text + textbox2.text. I need textbox3 to be updated whenever the contents of textbox1 and textbox2 have been changed either manually or programmatic. The problem is if i use textbox textchanged event it keeps firing as one types in the textbox. I need a way to call my method to fill textbox3 after either tb1 or tb2 have been FINISHED changing programmaticly or via key entry, and not fire everytime a letter of text is entered. How can I have TextBox3 update only when tb1 or tb2 have finished changing?

  • HTML 5 Video Error Media Src Not Supported

    So I was working on a toy website (http://nirmalpatel.com/yeah/index.html). If you check the source, you can see that I have linked a m4v and ogg version. When I load this page from my own computer using a url that starts with file:// the page works fine in Safari, Chrome and Firefox. However, after I upload all of the videos and the HTML to my server Firefox stops working. I don't think it's a permissions issue as both videos have the same permission.

  • How to find a programmer for my project?

    I'm building a web application to generate monthly subscription fees, but I've quickly realised I'm going to need some help with the project to finish it this century. I don't have any money upfront for a freelancer and every website I've found takes bids for project work. The tasks that need doing are flexible too because I can do whatever the other coder doesn't want to. I'm also happy to guide the developer and offer tips for performance/security/etc etc. My question is; how do I go about finding someone to work with on a profit-share basis? I'm sure there are a billion people like me with the "next killer app" but I genuinely believe in it. Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks in advance! EDIT: I guess the trick is to find someone passionate enough about the subject as I am. Where would I find someone? Are there websites that broker profit-share deals on programming work?

  • Software-related but not programming-specific questions

    I have often fought the urge to ask questions that I know aren't appropriate on SO, because I personally haven't come across another online group who's opinions I would trust as much. What sites do you frequent that you have found good participation from a smart group of people where you can ask questions that are related to software, but not programming problems? This community also has a vast depth of knowledge about things related to software like marketing, graphics/UI, running a small business, working in bad jobs, etc. that would greatly benefit everyone else. Where do we go to tap all that knowledge? On stackoverflow.uservoice.com there is a popular suggested feature to sanction, or add to SO, a place to hold discussions that aren't about specific programming questions. It seems that the suggestion has been denied in the past though.

  • Reopen error in bdb 4.7 memory

    I create a memory pool with flag(DB_CREATE) after ope a Db_Env with flag(DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_MPOOL |DB_SYSTEM_MEM), when I run their program at first time, it's ok and create some db files such _db.001,_db.002,mpool, but after I close the program and run it again,their make a error said the system cannot find the specified file("Mpool: PANIC:No such file or directory"), if I delete all files in the memory pool folder and run it again it will be ok? How can I fix this problem?

    I am using sofware iscsi initiator in windows server 2008 r2 to connect to a san. Everything works fine. But issue is if at time of boot san is not available it's not adding drives. It stays in reconnecting status when san is available. I have to manually disconnect and connect to get it working. How can i make it automatically connect when san is available.

  • IIS 6 windows 2003 help installing SSL cert

    I requested a new ssl cert from godaddy which has been issued. When try to install it in iis through the website directory security tab i get a "the pending certificate request for this response file was not found. this request may be cancelled. you cannot install selected response certificate using this wizard" error. I may have run the wizard and deleted the pending request. Is there any way i can install the certificate without getting a new one? (i hope so) I have the original certrequest.txt file

    I am using the new Virtual PC Beta on Windows 7 and I saw: The virtual machines have a special directory, but once you are in it, the VMs are shown. How can I do the same thing, with custom headings ("Machine status", "Memory", etc.) and custom toolbar buttons ("Create virtual machine")? I can't seem to find any documentation for this.

  • New Bluetooth API question

    I have written a small app that puts my bluetooth in discoverable mode for a long time (G1 - API 1.6). I use that along with small program on windows to lock/unlock the computer if the phone is close by. Recently i try to port this app to my nexus one but it seems like i have to pop up the message every 300s to enable device to go to discoverable mode. does anyone know how i can suppress that? I'm ok with saying ok for the first time but not every 300s :)

  • template engine implementation

    I am currently building this small template engine. It takes a string containing the template in parameter, and a dictionary of "tags,values" to fill in the template. In the engine, I have no idea of the tags that will be in the template and the ones that won't. I am currently iterating (foreach) on the dictionnary, parsing my string that I have put in a string builder, and replacing the tags in the template by their corresponding value. Is there a more efficient/convenient way of doing this? I know the main drawback here is that the stringbuilder is parsed everytime entirely for each tag, which is quite bad... (I am also checking, though not included in the sample, after the process that my template does not contain any tag anymore.   • SQL placeholder in WHERE IN issue, inserted strings fail.

    As part of my jobs, I need to writes SQL queries to connect to our PI database. To generate a query, I need to pass an array of tags (essentially primary keys), but these have to be inserted as strings. As this will be a modular query and used for multiple tags, a placeholder is being used. The query relies upon the use of the WHERE IN statement, which is where the placeholder is, like below: SELECT SUM(value * 5/1000) as "Hourly Flow [kL]" from piarchive..pitotal WHERE tag IN (?) AND time between ? and ? and timestep = '1d' and calcbasis = 'Eventweighted' and value <> '' The issue is the format in which the tags are to be passed in as. If I add them directly into the query (for testing), they go in the format (these are example numbers): '000000012','00000032','005050236','4560236' and the query looks like: SELECT SUM(value * 5/1000) as "Hourly Flow [kL]" from piarchive..pitotal WHERE tag IN ('000000012','00000032','005050236','4560236') AND time between ? and ? and timestep = '1d' and calcbasis = 'Eventweighted' and value <> '' which works. If I try and add the same tags into the placeholder, the query fails. If I only add 1 tag, with no quotes (using the placeholder), the query works. Why is this happening? Is there anyway around it?

  • jQuery Validation: Validating Checkboxes with Different Names

    I have a set of 4 checkboxes, all with different names, and require that at least 1 is checked. I know there are a few posts on here already trying to answer this question. The solution that seems to be most logical to me is the answer posted on Question 1734840, but I can't seem to get it working! What's wrong with my code? Or any other new coding ideas to get this working? I have set the class on all of them to 'require-one'.   • Does Django tests run slower on the mac compared to linux?

    I'm currently developing my Django projects on both: Mac OS X 10.5, 32 bit Ubuntu Server 9.10 64 bits (1 CPU, 512MB RAM) Both of the above OS are using: Python 2.6.4 Django 1.1.1 MySQL 5.1 Running 12 tests for one of my application take: Mac: 57.513s Linux: 30.935s EDIT: Mac Hardware Spec: MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 3GB RAM I'm running the Ubuntu OS on the same mac above through VMware Fusion 2.0.6. You might argue that Ubuntu Server 64 bits is faster but I have observed a similar speed difference on Ubuntu 8.10 32 bits desktop edition. Even if I turn off my linux VM and other mac applications, I still experience the slowness. Has anyone else experienced this Django test speed difference across those two OS?
