  • camera movement along with model

    - by noddy
    I am making a game in which a cube travels along a maze with the motive of crossing the maze safely. I have two problems in this. The cube needs to have a smooth movement like it is traveling on a frictionless surface. So could someone help me achieve this. I need to have this done in a event callback function I need to move the camera along with the cube. So could someone advice me a good tutorial about camera positions along with an object?

  • Best Platform/Engine for turn based Client/Server Android game

    - by Paradine
    I'm currently designing a turn based game for tablets. Initially for Android with porting to iOS later considered in design. I'm having trouble narrowing down the available technologies to even know where to spend my research time. I am hoping that if I explain what I am trying to achieve someone may be able to suggest a platform and/or engine. I've looked into some of the open source Engines ( http://www.cuteandroid.com/ten-open-source-android-2d-or-3d-game-engine-for-android-developers ) and some appear to handle much of what I might require - although with a higher focus on graphics than i need. Mages looks interesting although development appears to have ceased. If I could somehow leverage GoogleApps that would be excellent. Here is what I am trying to achieve: PvP turn based strategy game over internet - minimal animation and bandwidth required Players match up online using MetaGame system MatchID created on Resolution Server and Game starts Clients have 30 second countdown to select MoveString Clients sends small secure timestamped and MatchIDed MoveString to Resolution server Resolution server looks up Move String for each player, Resolves and Updates Players status in MatchID on Server Resolution server updates Client Views Repeat until victory conditions met - MatchID Closed, Rewards earned in MetaGame There will also need to be a full social and account system and metagame backend - but this could be running on separate system(s) Tablet in Offline mode would be catalog browsing and perhaps single player AI - bum I'm focusing on the Resolution Server at this point I'm not even certain if I would be looking at an Android App or a WebApp at this stage! I want a custom GUI so I guess an app - but maybe as I have little animation a WebApp might also work. Probably some combination of both. There will be very small overhead in data between client server - essentially a small text string every 30 seconds sent to the Resolution server which looks up the Effect and applies it to the Opponents string and determines some results to apply to the match. The client view is updated minimally with the results (only 5 in game Integers tracked) - perhaps triggering small animations/popups on the client to show the end result. e.g Explosion. If you have suggestions for a good technology or platform to best achieving the Resolution Server I'd love to hear. Also if you have experience with open source Engines - and could narrow down which (if any ) might be most suitable that would be a big help. Thanks in advance

  • MiniMax function throws null pointer exception

    - by Sven
    I'm working on a school project, I have to build a tic tac toe game with the AI based on the MiniMax algorithm. The two player mode works like it should. I followed the code example on http://ethangunderson.com/blog/minimax-algorithm-in-c/. The only thing is that I get a NullPointer Exception when I run the code. And I can't wrap my finger around it. I placed a comment in the code where the exception is thrown. The recursive call is returning a null pointer, what is very strange because it can't.. When I place a breakpoint on the null return with the help of a if statement, then I see that there ARE still 2 to 3 empty places.. I probably overlooking something. Hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Here is the MiniMax code (the tic tac toe code is not important): /* * To change this template, choose Tools | Templates * and open the template in the editor. */ package MiniMax; import Game.Block; import Game.Board; import java.util.ArrayList; public class MiniMax { public static Place getBestMove(Board gameBoard, Block.TYPE player) { Place bestPlace = null; ArrayList<Place> emptyPlaces = gameBoard.getEmptyPlaces(); Board newBoard; //loop trough all the empty places for(Place emptyPlace : emptyPlaces) { newBoard = gameBoard.clone(); newBoard.setBlock(emptyPlace.getRow(), emptyPlace.getCell(), player); //no game won and still room to move if(newBoard.getWinner() == Block.TYPE.NONE && newBoard.getEmptyPlaces().size() > 0) { //is an node (has children) Place tempPlace = getBestMove(newBoard, invertPlayer(player)); //ERROR is thrown here! tempPlace is null. emptyPlace.setScore(tempPlace.getScore()); } else { //is an leaf if(newBoard.getWinner() == Block.TYPE.NONE) { emptyPlace.setScore(0); } else if(newBoard.getWinner() == Block.TYPE.X) { emptyPlace.setScore(-1); } else if(newBoard.getWinner() == Block.TYPE.O) { emptyPlace.setScore(1); } //if this move is better then our prev move, take it! if((bestPlace == null) || (player == Block.TYPE.X && emptyPlace.getScore() < bestPlace.getScore()) || (player == Block.TYPE.O && emptyPlace.getScore() > bestPlace.getScore())) { bestPlace = emptyPlace; } } } //This should never be null, but it does.. return bestPlace; } private static Block.TYPE invertPlayer(Block.TYPE player) { if(player == Block.TYPE.X) { return Block.TYPE.O; } return Block.TYPE.X; } }

  • Xcode 4.2 MultiView App

    - by doc92606
    i am a fairly new iOS programmer, and I've lately been having trouble with my multi view app. Im using a paged based application with two view. I just don't seem to be able to make an IBAction that allows me to switch between each view. i tried using: [self presentModalViewController: SecondViewController animated: YES]; but i keep getting an error that says: "use of undeclared identifier 'SecondViewController'

  • Reload a UITable on the fly when editing a UITextField inside one of the cells

    - by Saze
    I have a UITable containing some customs UITableCells. Those cells contain a few UILabels and a UITextField. The datasource of the table comes from a main controller's property. (This controller is also the delegate and the dataSource for the table). Here's a simplified screenshot of the UI: Now, I need to update "on the fly" the content of all the UILabels when the user edits one of the UITextFields. To do so, at the I am listening to the "Editing Changed" event at the UITextField level. This triggers the following action: - (IBAction) editChangeHandler: (id) sender { MyAppDelegate *delegate = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [[delegate.viewController.myDataSourceArray objectAtIndex:self.rowIndex] setANumber: [theTextField.text intValue]]; [delegate.viewController reloadRows]; } The reloadRows method in the viewController is as such: - (void) reloadRows { NSLog(@"called reloadRows"); //perform some calculations on the data source objects here... [theUITable reloadData]; } My problem here is that whenever the user changes the value in the field, the reloadRows method is successfully called, so is apparently the reloadData but it also causes the keyboard to be dismissed. So in the end, the user can only touch one key when editing the TextField before the keyboard is dismissed and the table reloaded. Does anybody knows a solution to this or have experienced the same issue?

  • boost bind callback function pointer as a parameter

    - by Takashi-kun
    I am trying to pass a function pointer using boost::bind. void Class::ThreadFunction(Type(*callbackFunc)(message_type::ptr&)) { } boost::shared_ptr<boost::thread> Class::Init(Type(*callbackFunc)(message_type::ptr&)) { return boost::shared_ptr<boost::thread> ( new boost::thread(boost::bind(&Class::ThreadFunction, callbackFunc)) ); } I get the following errors: 1>C:\dev\sapphire\boost_1_46_1\boost/bind/mem_fn.hpp(362) : warning C4180: qualifier applied to function type has no meaning; ignored 1>C:\dev\sapphire\boost_1_46_1\boost/bind/mem_fn.hpp(333) : error C2296: '->*' : illegal, left operand has type 'Type (__cdecl **)(message_type::ptr &)' However, I was able to change to the following, it works fine: void ThreadFunction(Type(*callbackFunc)(message_type::ptr&)) { } boost::shared_ptr<boost::thread> Class::Init(Type(*callbackFunc)(message_type::ptr&)) { return boost::shared_ptr<boost::thread> ( new boost::thread(boost::bind(&ThreadFunction, callbackFunc)) ); } Why do I get those errors if I declare the method in the Class class?

  • Difficulty Inserting from HTML form into MySQL (created in Workbench)

    - by Chaya Cooper
    I created a MySQL database in Workbench 5.2.35 for purposes of storing and using information submitted in html forms but I'm having difficulty inserting records from the html form. The relevant SQL script was saved as Demo2.sql, the schema is C2F, and the table is customer_info. I wasn't sure if that was the problem, so I tried replacing the database name (Demo2) with the schema name, but that didn't work either. My html file includes: form action="insert.php" method="post" The insert.php file states: ?php $con = mysql_connect("localhost","root","****"); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("Demo2", $con); $sql="INSERT INTO customer_info(fname, lname, user, password, reminder, answer) VALUES ('$_POST[fname]','$_POST[lname]','$_POST[user]','$_POST[password]','$_POST[reminder]','$_POST[answer]')"; if (!mysql_query($sql,$con)) { die('Error: ' . mysql_error()); } echo "1 record added"; mysql_close($con) ? I've also tried INSERT INTO c2f.customer_info(fname, lname, etc. and INSERT INTO 'c2f'.'customer_info'

    - by Kristina Fiedalan
    I have a DataGridView with column Remarks (Passed, Failed). For example, I want to show all the records Failed in the column Remarks using DataView, how do I do that? Thank you. Here's the code I'm working on: ds.Tables["Grades"].PrimaryKey = new DataColumn[] { ds.Tables["Grades"].Columns["StudentID"] }; DataRow dRow = ds.Tables["Students"].Rows.Find(txtSearch.Text); DataView dataView = new DataView(dt); dataView.RowFilter = "Remarks = " + txtSearch.Text; dgvReport.DataSource = dataView;

  • Script says Undefined

    - by user1058887
    I have this script that would let the user input a text and it would get translated into something else. It works only when the word has only 1 letter. When there is more than 1 letter it says Undefined. Here is the script : function copyit(theField) { var tempval=eval("document."+theField) tempval.focus() tempval.select() therange=tempval.createTextRange() therange.execCommand("Copy") } function results() { var behavior="form"; var text=document.csrAlpha.csrresult2.value; var ff22=text.toLowerCase(); var Words=new Array ; Words["b"]="Dadada"; Words["bob"]="Robert"; Words["flower"]="Banana"; Words["brad"]="Chair"; var trans=""; var regExp=/[\!@#$%^&*(),=";:\/]/; var stringCheck=regExp.exec(ff22); if(!stringCheck) { if(ff22.length > 0) { for(var i=0;i < ff22.length;i++) { var thisChar=ff22.charAt(i); trans += Words[thisChar] + " "; } } else { trans +="Please write something."; } } else { trans +="You entered invalid characters. Remove them and try again."; } document.csrAlpha.csrresult.value=trans; } Please insert your text below:

  • What is the '@(' doing in this Perl code?

    - by Anthony Veckey
    In this code snippet: use strict; use warnings; use Data::Dumper; my $r = [qw(testing this thing)]; print Dumper($r); foreach my $row (@({$r}) { print "$row\n"; $row .= 'mod'; } print Dumper($r); print Dumper(@({$r}); I figured out that the '(' after the '@' in the foreach is causing this not to loop correctly. I have no idea why this code even works as there is no ending parenthesis. What is this doing? It looks to be creating a new variable on the fly, but shouldn't 'use strict' have fired or something? Please help explain what that '@(' is doing and why it still runs without an ending parenthesis.

  • Check if DateTime in specific range

    - by katit
    Need to check if DateTime is in specific range. I think I need to calculate knowing YEAR first and last date of DST time in this year. How would I figure "Sunday of week 2 of March" date? From 1/1/2007 12:00:00 AM to 12/31/9999 12:00:00 AM Begins at 2:00 AM on Sunday of week 2 of March Ends at 2:00 AM on Sunday of week 1 of November For example, I need to check if 11/21/2011 is between Sunday of week 2 in March and Sunday of week 1 of November - answer should be NO If I pass 8/8/2011 - answer should be yes. Basically, I need to write function to check if my date belongs to daylight savings time. My only idea so far is to write loops to find 2nd week for example. So, I would loop from Day 1 in March until I hit Sunday second time. Same thing I would loop (increment days by 1) from day 1 of November until I hit Sunday first time. In another words, I need function to check if input data is in Daylight Savings time period. Time period defined by constraint above. P.S. I can't use TimeZoneInfo since it's in Silverlight P.P.S I can't use DateTime.IsDaylightSavingsTime as I don't have times with kind "local"

  • Advice: Python Framework Server/Worker Queue management (not Website)

    - by Muppet Geoff
    I am looking for some advice/opinions of which Python Framework to use in an implementation of multiple 'Worker' PCs co-ordinated from a central Queue Manager. For completeness, the 'Worker' PCs will be running Audio Conversion routines (which I do not need advice on, and have standalone code that works). The Audio conversion takes a long time, and I need to co-ordinate an arbitrary number of the 'Workers' from a central location, handing them conversion tasks (such as where to get the source files, or where to ask for the job configuration) with them reporting back some additional info, such as the runtime of the converted audio etc. At present, I have a script that makes a webservice call to get the 'configuration' for a conversion task, based on source files located on the worker already (we manually copy the source files to the worker, and that triggers a conversion routine). I want to change this, so that we can distribute conversion tasks ("Oy you, process this: xxx") based on availability, and in an ideal world, based on pending tasks too. There is a chance that Workers can go offline mid-conversion (but this is not likely). All the workers are Windows based, the co-ordinator can be WIndows or Linux. I have (in my initial searches) come across the following - and I know that some are cross-dependent: Celery (with RabbitMQ) Twisted Django Using a framework, rather than home-brewing, seems to make more sense to me right now. I have a limited timeframe in which to develop this functional extension. An additional consideration would be using a Framework that is compatible with PyQT/PySide so that I can write a simple UI to display Queue status etc. I appreciate that the specifics above are a little vague, and I hope that someone can offer me a pointer or two. Again: I am looking for general advice on which Python framework to investigate further, for developing a Server/Worker 'Queue management' solution, for non-web activities (this is why DJango didn't seem the right fit).

  • How can I write this in a shorter way?

    - by oaziz
    This code repeats itself. How can I make it shorter? Maybe by using anonymous function or something? foreach ($value as $wrong) { if (starts_with($wrong, '%') and ends_with($wrong, '%')) { $wrong = trim($wrong, '%'); if (contains($address, $wrong)) { $corrected_address = str_replace($wrong, $key, $address); break; } } else { $wrong = trim($wrong, '%'); if (ends_with($address, $wrong)) { $corrected_address = str_replace($wrong, $key, $address); break; } } } Thanks.

  • mongoose updating a field in a MongoDB not working

    - by Masiar
    I have this code var UserSchema = new Schema({ Username: {type: String, index: true}, Password: String, Email: String, Points: {type: Number, default: 0} }); [...] var User = db.model('User'); /* * Function to save the points in the user's account */ function savePoints(name, points){ if(name != "unregistered user"){ User.find({Username: name}, function(err, users){ var oldPoints = users[0].Points; var newPoints = oldPoints + points; User.update({name: name}, { $inc: {Points: newPoints}}, function(err){ if(err){ console.log("some error happened when update"); } else{ console.log("update successfull! with name = " + name); User.find({Username: name}, function(err, users) { console.log("updated : " + users[0].Points); }); } }); }); } } savePoints("Masiar", 666); I would like to update my user (by finding it with its name) by updating his/her points. I'm sure oldPoints and points contain a value, but still my user keep being at zero points. The console prints "update successful". What am I doing wrong? Sorry for the stupid / noob question.   • Weird callback execution order in Twisted?

    - by SlashV
    Consider the following code: from twisted.internet.defer import Deferred d1 = Deferred() d2 = Deferred() def f1(result): print 'f1', def f2(result): print 'f2', def f3(result): print 'f3', def fd(result): return d2 d1.addCallback(f1) d1.addCallback(fd) d1.addCallback(f3) #/BLOCK==== d2.addCallback(f2) d1.callback(None) #=======BLOCK/ d2.callback(None) This outputs what I would expect: f1 f2 f3 However when I swap the order of the statements in BLOCK to #/BLOCK==== d1.callback(None) d2.addCallback(f2) #=======BLOCK/ i.e. Fire d1 before adding the callback to d2, I get: f1 f3 f2 I don't see why the time of firing of the deferreds should influence the callback execution order. Is this an issue with Twisted or does this make sense in some way?

  • How to access the service instance from host object in WCF?

    - by user1048677
    I am trying to incarnate some sort of ad hoc WCF service. I already managed to launch it and make it call its own web methods as some other guy's methods. The issue that I am facing is instance management. I have set [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.Single)] so it now has a global instance with the same properties for all clients. But besides that I need it to call other services of its kind while listening to incoming requests from clients (similar crazy services). While debugging I noticed that the ServiceHost's constructor calls the constructor of the service class. So, I assumed it has access to the global instance of this class and I need to find a way to call methods of this instance. Please don't ask what I have been smoking, I just have to make it ad hoc.

  • Array "tree" creation from db table

    - by Tural Teyyuboglu
    Trying to create array tree for db driven navigation. Getting following errur: array_key_exists() expects exactly 2 parameters, 1 given on line if (!array_key_exists($tree[$parent]['children'][$id])) Function looks like that $tree = array(); $sql = "SELECT id, parent, name FROM menu WHERE parent ... etc.... "; $results = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error()); while(list($id, $parent, $name) = mysql_fetch_assoc($results)) { $tree[$id] = array('name' => $name, 'children' => array(), 'parent' => $parent); if (!array_key_exists($tree[$parent]['children'][$id])) { $tree[$parent]['children'][$id] = $id; } } Db structure How can I fix that? Whats wrong in this function?

  • Access static Method in GDB

    - by Besi
    I recently discovered the GDB in Xcode which makes up for some functionality which IMHO seems to be lacking in Xcode. So I can do the following in GDB: (gdb) po [LoginManager sharedSession].loginToken 20D52FE9-3573-437E-9A65-846572B63726 However, I have another Service class, which is currently not loaded so I get the following error: (gdb) po [SessionService displaySessionInfoForToken:@"XXX"] No symbol "SessionService" in current context. I don't understand why the LoginManager can be loaded but not the SessionService.

  • Timing issues with playback of the HTML5 Audio API

    - by pat
    I'm using the following code to try to play a sound clip with the HTML5 Audio API: HTMLAudioElement.prototype.playClip = function(startTime, stopTime) { this.stopTime = stopTime; this.currentTime = startTime; this.play(); $(this).bind('timeupdate', function(){ if (this.ended || this.currentTime >= stopTime) { this.pause(); $(this).unbind('timeupdate'); } }); } I utilize this new playClip method as follows. First I have a link with some data attributes: <a href=# data-stop=1.051 data-start=0.000>And then I was thinking,</a> And finally this bit of jQuery which runs on $(document).ready to hook up a click on the link with the playback: $('a').click(function(ev){ $('a').click(function(ev){ var start = $(this).data('start'), stop = $(this).data('stop'), audio = $('audio').get(0), $audio = $(audio); ev.preventDefault(); audio.playClip(start,stop); }) This approach seems to work, but there's a frustrating bug: sometimes, the playback of a given clip plays beyond the correct data-stop time. I suspect it could have something to do with the timing of the timeupdate event, but I'm no JS guru and I don't know how to begin debugging the problem. Here are a few clues I've gathered: The same behavior appears to come up in both FF and Chrome. The playback of a given clip actually seems to vary a bit -- if I play the same clip a couple times in a row, it may over-play a different amount of time on each playing. Is the problem here the inherent accuracy of the Audio API? My app needs milliseconds. Is there a problem with the way I'm using jQuery to bind and unbind the timeupdate event? I tried using the jQuery-less approach with addEventListener but I couldn't get it to work. Thanks in advance, I would really love to know what's going wrong.

  • gnu screen - changing the default escape command key to ALT-X?

    - by Siva
    In GNU screen, I want to change the default command binding to Alt-s (by tweaking .screenrc) instead of the default C-a, the reason is I use emacs hence GNU screen binds the C-a key, sending "C-a" to the emacs becomes tedious (as @Nils said, to send "C-a" I should type "C-a a"), as well as "C-a" in bash shell, and I could change the escape to C- but some of them are already mapped in emacs and other combinations are not as easy as ALT-s . If anyone has already done a ALT key mapping, please do let me know.

  • View isn't scrolling back down after I dismiss the keyboard

    - by fmi
    I have a Tab Bar app. One of the views has a UITextView that is hidden by the keyboard when touched. I've set the view to scroll to account for the keyboard but it the view doesn't always return to it's original position after I dismiss the keyboard. Here is my code: //Scroll the view for keyboard - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { void (^keyBoardWillShow) (NSNotification *)= ^(NSNotification * notif) { NSDictionary* info = [notif userInfo]; NSValue* aValue = [info objectForKey:UIKeyboardFrameEndUserInfoKey]; CGSize keyboardSize = [aValue CGRectValue].size; float bottomPoint = (additionalView.frame.origin.y + additionalView.frame.size.height + 10); scrollAmount = keyboardSize.height - (self.view.frame.size.height - bottomPoint); if (scrollAmount > 0) { moveViewUp =YES; [self scrollTheView:YES]; } else moveViewUp = NO; }; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserverForName:UIKeyboardWillShowNotification object:self.view.window queue:nil usingBlock:keyBoardWillShow]; void (^keyBoardWillHide) (NSNotification *)= ^(NSNotification * notif) { if (moveViewUp) [self scrollTheView:NO]; }; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserverForName:UIKeyboardWillHideNotification object:self.view.window queue:nil usingBlock:keyBoardWillHide]; [super viewWillAppear:animated]; } - (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated { [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] removeObserver:self name:UIKeyboardWillShowNotification object:nil]; [super viewWillDisappear:animated]; } (void)scrollTheView:(BOOL)movedUp { [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.3]; CGRect rect = self.view.frame; if (movedUp){ rect.origin.y -= scrollAmount; } else { rect.origin.y += scrollAmount; } self.view.frame = rect; [UIView commitAnimations]; }

  • Using array instead of lots of db queries in PHP

    - by Tural Teyyuboglu
    My function looks like that. It works but does lots of work (recursively calls itself and does lots of db queries.). There must be another way to do same thing but with array (with one query). I can't figure out how to modify this function to get it work with array. Please help. function genMenu($parent, $level, $menu, $utype) { global $db; $stmt=$db->prepare("select id, name FROM navigation WHERE parent = ? AND menu=?
