  • Fake sent email appear in my sent items folder

    - by Mike
I have an email listed as being sent by my outlook account that I did not send. In order to figure out who it was sent to, I forwarded it to the same address (hotmail account) and received a reply that there was no such address. I've tried looking up that address and it does not appear to exist. Can someone fake an email and have it appear in my outlook sent items folder as being sent by me? How can I tell who did this?

  • Excel cutting out down over 1024 characters

    - by Zeno
I am using Excel 2003 to save a large file as a CSV. But when saving cells that contain over 1024 characters, it cuts out the characters beyond 1024. Per a previous question, I am using this official macro to save: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;291296&Product=xlw This macro in question is probably causing it, since I'm not using the normal Save As (in order to put quotes around every field). It may not be 1024 characters, but long cells are getting cut off. What in this macro is causing that?

  • How to make WinServer's AD work with Linux DNS/DHCP on VMware?

    - by Borald
Hope you're fine. I got 2 virtual machines : Windows Server 2008 with Active Directory installed. Linux that works as a DNS and DHCP Server I need to make them work together, but I don't if this is going to be possible because VMWARE is sharing the NIC with other virtual machines and computer itself. I've assigned different IP static adresses to the servers. Is there a way for me to make these things get interconnected and test them on some virtual clients ? Any help will be much appreciated... (useful links,tutorials,..) Thanks in advance !

  • How to reverse-i-search back and forth?

    - by m-ric
I use reverse-i-search often, and that's cool. Sometime though when pressing Ctrl+r multiple times, I pass the command I am actually looking for. Because Ctrl+r searches backward in history, from newest to oldest, I have to: cancel, search again and stop exactly at the command, without passing it. While in reverse-i-search prompt, is it possible to search forward, i.e. from where I stand to newest. I naively tried Ctrl+shift+r, no luck. I heard about Ctrl+g but this is not what I am expecting here. Anyone has an idea?

  • How to make a dropdown list such that... (see details)

    - by daysandtimes
I want to plot the stock prices of certain companies VS the S&P500. I have all the price data downloaded in my excel sheet already. I want to create a line graph in Excel. One line is fixed and that would be the S&P500, and the other would be the company I select. I know how to use data validation to create a dropdown list, but how could I make it in such a way that when I select company A, I would only see company A's price data but not company B, C, etc. Then when I select company B, I would only see company B's price data & the S&P price data. And so on. The S&P line will be visible all the time, but the various company's price line will only appear if it is selected. Is there any easy way to normalize all sets of data in a way such that the starting point is always 100?

  • TEMP_PART01 and C drive

    - by SmartLemon
So we have a Samsung series 9 laptop and it has a 128 GB solid state drive, the problem we are having with it is that it has 4 partitions, one that's 100MB (who knows what for), one thats 40 GB (Primary Windows partition), 60 GB partition (TEMP_PART01) and a microsoft office one. The primary windows partition only has less than, 30 MB left, we want to increase this space, I know that I could just move everything to temp_part01 but we are not quite sure on it. What we are thinking of doing is deleting this partition all together and extending the windows volume. The problem is that the extra partition has 55.7 remaining out of 59.7 GB, which means there is something on it, but it shows up with nothing when we go into it, when we change the settings to show hidden files, but still nothing, I then used CMD to list all the files using dir d: and still no files. So would it be safe to delete it and extend the windows volume? Or what should I do? Here's a screen shot:

  • WMV file won't play in Windows Media Player

    - by user1053768
I have a .wmv file I uploaded to my website. When I click the link to the video, the video plays in Windows Media Player without any problems. However, on some systems when the user clicks the link, Windows Media Player gives them the error: Window Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file All I did was copy the video to the server and store the URL in a database. Why are users getting this error? How can I fix it?

  • Different PATH environment variable for 32bit and 64bit Windows - is it possible?

Is it possible to have whole or part of PATH environment variable specific to the type of running process's image (32bit/64bit)? When I run some app from within 64bit cmd.exe I would like to have it pick the 64bit version of OpenSSL library whereas when I run some app from within 32bit cmd.exe I would like to have it pick the 32bit version of OpenSSL library. • Weird files in User folder

    - by Vervious
In my user folder (C:/Users/myAccount/) theres a set of interesting hidden files that I've never seen before (right now it's a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate). These are: NTUSER.DAT, ntuser.dat.LOG1, ntuser.dat.LOG2, and NTUSER.DAT(whole chain of numbers and letters).TM.bif, NTUSER.DAT(whole chain of numbers and letters).TMContaineretcetc.regtrans-ms, and another similar one. When I try to delete them, it says the system is using them. I've never seen these files before. Are they ok to delete? Or should I leave them in my home folder? I always keep "Show hidden files" as well as "Show System files" checked, since I prefer being able to see all the files on my computer. If I shouldn't delete them, is there at least a way to tidy them up a bit? Thanks.

  • SQL SERVER – Get Date and Time From Current DateTime – SQL in Sixty Seconds #025 – Video

    - by pinaldave
This is 25th video of series SQL in Sixty Seconds we started a few months ago. Even though this is 25th video it seems like we have just started this few days ago. The best part of this SQL in Sixty Seconds is that one can learn something new in less than sixty seconds. There are many concepts which are not new for many but just we all have 60 seconds to refresh our memories. In this video I have touched a very simple question which I receive very frequently on this blog. Q1) How to get current date time? Q2) How to get Only Date from datetime? Q3) How to get Only Time from datetime? I have created a sixty second video on this subject and hopefully this will help many beginners in the SQL Server field. This sixty second video describes the same. Here is a similar script which I have used in the video. SELECT GETDATE() GO -- SQL Server 2000/2005 SELECT CONVERT(VARCHAR(8),GETDATE(),108) AS HourMinuteSecond, CONVERT(VARCHAR(8),GETDATE(),101) AS DateOnly; GO -- SQL Server 2008 Onwards SELECT CONVERT(TIME,GETDATE()) AS HourMinuteSeconds; SELECT CONVERT(DATE,GETDATE()) AS DateOnly; GO Related Tips in SQL in Sixty Seconds: Retrieve Current Date Time in SQL Server CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, GETDATE(), {fn NOW()} Get Time in Hour:Minute Format from a Datetime – Get Date Part Only from Datetime Get Current System Date Time Get Date Time in Any Format – UDF – User Defined Functions Date and Time Functions – EOMONTH() – A Quick Introduction DATE and TIME in SQL Server 2008 I encourage you to submit your ideas for SQL in Sixty Seconds. We will try to accommodate as many as we can. If we like your idea we promise to share with you educational material. • Speaking - Red Gate's SQL in the City

    - by AllenMWhite
The great folks at Red Gate have invited me to join the festivities at the SQL in the City events in both Chicago on October 5, and in Seattle on November 5. In both cities I'll be presenting a session entitled Automated Deployment: Application And Database Releases Without The Headache . Here's the abstract: Ever since applications were first created, the deployment of updates and changes has been a headache, with the potential of disruption of the application at best and data corruption at worst....(read more)

  • Reading and conditionally updating N rows, where N > 100,000 for DNA Sequence processing

    - by makerofthings7
I have a proof of concept application that uses Azure tables to associate DNA sequences to "something". Table 1 is the master table. It uniquely lists every DNA sequence. The PK is a load balanced hash of the RK. The RK is the unique encoded value of the DNA sequence. Additional tables are created per subject. Each subject has a list of N DNA sequences that have one reference in the Master table, where N is 100,000. It is possible for many tables to reference the same DNA sequence, but in this case only one entry will be present in the Master table. My Azure dilemma: I need to lock the reference in the Master table as I work with the data. I need to handle timeouts, and prevent other threads from overwriting my data as one C# thread is working with the information. Other threads need to realise that this is locked, and move onto other unlocked records and do the work. Ideally I'd like to get some progress report of how my computation is going, and have the option to cancel the process (and unwind the locks). Question What is the best approach for this? I'm looking at these code snippets for inspiration: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jimoneil/archive/2010/10/05/azure-home-part-7-asynchronous-table-storage-pagination.aspx http://stackoverflow.com/q/4535740/328397

  • Generic software code style enforcer

    - by FuzziBear
It seems to me to be a fairly common thing to do, where you have some code that you'd like to automatically run through a code style tool to catch when people break your coding style guide(s). Particularly if you're working on code that has multiple languages (which is becoming more common with web-language-x and javascript), you generally want to apply similar code style guides to both and have them enforced. I've done a bit of research, but I've only been able to find tools to enforce code style guidelines (not necessarily applying the code style, just telling you when you break code style guidelines) for a particular language. It would seem to me a reasonably trivial thing to do by just using current IDE rules for syntax highlighting (so that you don't check style guide rules inside quotes or strings, etc) and a whole lot of regexes to enforce some really generic things. Examples: if ( rather than if( checking lines with only whitespace Are there any tools that do this kind of really generic style checking? I'd prefer it to be easily configurable for different languages (because like it or not, some things would just not work cross language) and to add new "rules" to check new things.

  • Finding Database issue for iphone app

    - by David Liu
I know this is a dumb question and it might not be "conceptual" but, as a self-starter I really want to know how to get connected to some sort of "commercial database"? I'm recently designing my local gas station utility app for iphone and ipad. I have absolutely no clue of find a relevant database. For example, if I want to make an app for pizza ordering in the great Chicago area. How do I get info (price, menu, location, etc.) of those pizza stores scattered all over Chicago? Can any one light something for me? I appreciated your help. **If this question is not suitable here please tell me and I will delete this post. Thank you.

I know about default sections and we can add new sections into report. What is purpose of a subreport ? why to use a subreport instead of a section ? Where to use multiple detail sections in report ? Are sections used to carry a "Can grow" filed that will be brining data dynamically ? thanks for guiding and sharing your experience.

  • Formal definition for term "pure OO language"?

    - by Yauhen Yakimovich
I can't think of a better place among SO siblings to pose such a question. Originally I wanted to ask "Is python a pure OO language?" but considering troubles and some sort of discomfort people experience while trying to define the term I decided to start with obtaining a clear definition for the term itself. It would be rather fair to start with correspondence by Dr. Alan Kay, who has coined the term (note the inspiration in biological analogy to cells or other living objects). There are following ways to approach the task: Give a comparative analysis by listing programming languages that exhibits certain properties unique and sufficient to define the term (although Smalltalk and Java are passing examples but IMO this way seems neither really complete or nor fruitful) Give a formal definition (or close to it, e.g. in more academic or mathematical style). Give a philosophical definition that would totally rely on semantical context of concrete language or a priori programming experience (there must be some chance of successful explanation by the community). My current version: "If a certain programing (formal) language that can (grammatically) differentiate between operations and operands as well as infer about the type of each operand whether this type is an object (in sense of OOP) or not then we call such a language an OO-language as long as there is at least one type in this language which is an object. Finally, if all types of the language are also objects we define such language to be pure OO-language." Would appreciate any possible improvement of it. As you can see I just made the definition dependent on the term "object" (often fully referenced as class of objects).

  • How to Be a Software Engineer?

    - by Mistrio
My problem is kind of weird so please bear with me. I have been working in a start up concerned basically with mobile development since my graduation 2 years ago. I develop apps for iOS but it's not really relevant. The start up structure is simply founders developers, with no middle-tier technical supervision or project management whatsoever. A typical project cycle of ours is like this: meet with a client send very vague recruitment to an outsourced graphics designer dig in development right after we get the design, no questions asked then improvise improvise improvise! It's not that we are unaware that stuff like requirements analysis, UML, design patterns, source code control, testing, development methodologies... etc. exist, we just simply don't use them, and I mean like never. The result is usually a clunk of hardly-maintainable yet working code. Despite everything we are literally flourishing with many successful apps on all platforms and bigger clients each project. The thing is, we want the chaos and we're looking for advice. How would you fix our company technically? Given that you can't hire project managers or team leaders just because we are barely 5 developers, so it wouldn't be a justified cost for the founders, but one-time things like courses, books, private training... etc is an option. Lastly, if it's relevant, we are based in Egypt. Thank you a lot in advance.

  • Wireless not working on desktop with Asus USB-N13 (B1) wireless adapter

    - by user900749
I am trying to connect my desktop to a wireless network. I have purchased an ASUS USB-N13 B1 adapter. I have followed instructions for installing drivers and disabling conflicting drivers. I have thoroughly searched and could not find a solution. The adapter is recognized and powered on. I have entered the ssid and password information into the wireless network configuration. Other machines can connect to this wireless network, and the machine can connect online via ethernet without issue. Here is the output of some commands which summarize my configuration, and might give some clues : ~$ cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=precise DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS" ~$ uname -a Linux petra 3.2.0-29-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 27 17:03:23 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ~$ lsusb Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0b05:17ab ASUSTek Computer, Inc. ~$ dmesg [ 1883.823150] wlan0: authenticate with 48:5b:39:e7:25:5e (try 1) [ 1884.020027] wlan0: authenticate with 48:5b:39:e7:25:5e (try 2) [ 1884.220025] wlan0: authenticate with 48:5b:39:e7:25:5e (try 3) [ 1884.420023] wlan0: authentication with 48:5b:39:e7:25:5e timed out Any assistance would be appreciated as I have been trying to get this machine online for several weeks now to no avail. • Banshee won't sync OGG format to my iphone

    - by Daze
I have a jailbroken iphone 3g with 16 gigs of memory and I've been putting my music on it from banshee lately and have been having almost no issue. Unfortunately, I just added a few albums to my Banshee library and tried to sync them to my iphone, but every time I try, i see a hundred or so errors saying that the device doesn't support the ogg format and there was no converter found. I'm still pretty much a newb at this stuff, so please help me and dumb down your answer. I'm running 12.04 and again, using an iphone 3g with no sim card, but it's been jailbroken and is used primarily for it's music function.

This happened right after visiting the following website and installing an audio browser application to upload voice samples for the creation of an open-source speech recognition program: http://www.voxforge.org/home/read I do not know if that is what caused the problem, but audio stopped working around the same time I installed this web application. When I type in the terminal pulseaudio -D I get the following: E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed. I tried the following next: sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio sudo apt-get install pulseaudio When I type 'pulseaudio' at the command prompt, I get: E: [pulseaudio] pid.c: Daemon already running. E: [pulseaudio] main.c: pa_pid_file_create() failed.

  • How to debug a .bash_profile

    - by Blankman
I was updating my .bash_profile, and unfortunetly I made a few updates and now I am getting: env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory -bash: tar: command not found -bash: grep: command not found -bash: cat: command not found -bash: find: command not found -bash: dirname: command not found -bash: /preexec.sh.lib: No such file or directory -bash: preexec_install: command not found -bash: sed: command not found -bash: git: command not found My bash_profile actually pulls in other .sh files (sources them) so I am not exactly sure which modification may have caused this. Now if I even try and to a list of files, I get: >ls -bash: ls: command not found -bash: sed: command not found -bash: git: command not found Any tips on how to trace the source of the error, and how to be able to use the terminal for basic things like listing files etc?

  • Suspend not working after kernel update on an HP Envy14 1050

    - by leoxweb
I just update ubuntu 12.04 to the kernel 3.2.0-30 and together with it a lot of packeges in the system. I am running it on an HP Envy14 1050. When I first made a fresh install of the clean ubuntu 12.04 I had the problem that when restoring from suspend the screen was black, although some backlight was there. I could fix it following this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/989674/comments/20. Now, after the update the black screen after suspend has reappeared but with no backlight at all and the led in the caps lock key blinking. The laptop is using a ATI radeon 5600 with the privative drivers. During the update process there was an error with depmod . You can see the /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt-term.log file at the end. UPDATE: suspend is not working at all. The problem is not when restoring from suspend, but when I try to suspend the system it gets blocked and the fan running. Only option is to press power button. • Can't customize the application switcher

    - by Byron Hawkins
I'm trying to change the shortcut for switching applications from Alt+Tab to Ctrl+Tab, but changes in the System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Navigation are being ignored. Even if I disable the Switch applications shortcut entirely, it still maps to Alt+Tab. At one point I had some keys remapped with xmodmap, but since then I have deleted that configuration and rebooted. My keyboard layout settings are all defaults. The OS is Ubuntu 12.04, with all software updated this afternoon. It would also be nice to have the variation of application switching that includes one icon per window, instead of one icon per application, since I am frequently switching between windows of an application and would rather not wait for the switcher to realize I want a different window of the current application. My other Ubuntu 12.04 install has the application switcher that I like, but I'm not sure how to choose between them on this install (which was set up by my university department). Thanks if anyone can help me with this.
