It's not a photo editor, it doesn't bother with paths, geometric shapes, text manipulation, or fancy masking options. Instead, it focuses on one and only one use: painting."

  • Recommendations on eReader for technical reference material

    - by Aaron Kowall
I’ve been thinking that an eBook reader would be handy since I travel a lot.  I’m not really all that worried about taking novels and pleasure reading as much as taking along work related books and reference material. I haven’t really done a lot of research into the various options (Sony, Kindle, Nook, iPad, etc.) but am aware that not all content can be read on all readers even if it is in ePub format due to DRM. Anybody got a recommendation on which device/store combination offers the best selection of technical reference for a .Net developer with a particular interest in software process engineering? HELP!! • Ban HTML comments from your pages and views

Too many people dont realize that there are other options than <!-- --> comments to annotate HTML. These comments are harmful because they are sent to the client and thus make your page heavier than it needs to be. When doing ASP.NET, a simple drop-in replacement is server comments, which are delimited by <%-- --%> instead of <!-- -->. Those server comments are visible in your source code, but will never be rendered to the client. Heres a simple way to sanitize a web site. From...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. • NullPointerException on jetty 7 startup with jetty deployment descriptor

    - by Draemon
    I'm getting the following error when I start Jetty: 2010-03-01 12:30:19.328:WARN::Failed startup of context WebAppContext@15ddf5@15ddf5/webapp,null,/path/to/jetty-distribution-7.0.1.v20091125/webapps-plus/webapp.war With this commandline: java -jar start.jar OPTIONS=All lib=/path/to/jetty-distribution-7.0.1.v20091125/lib/ext etc/jetty.xml etc/jetty-plus.xml /path/to/webapp/src/configuration/test.xml And test.xml contains: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <!DOCTYPE Configure PUBLIC "-//Mort Bay Consulting//DTD Configure//EN" "http://www.eclipse.org/jetty/configure.dtd"> <Configure class="org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext"> <Set name="contextPath">/webapp</Set> <Set name="war"><SystemProperty name="jetty.home" default="."/>/webapps-plus/webapp.war</Set> </Configure> If I don't include test.xml on the commandline it works fine.

  • How do I securely execute commands as root via a web control panel?

    - by Chris J
I would like to build a very simple PHP based web based control panel to add and remove users to/from and add and remove sections to/from nginx config files on my linode vps (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS). What is the most secure way of executing commands as root based on input from a web based control panel? I am loathe to run PHP as root (even if behind an IP tables firewall) for the obvious reasons. Suggestions welcome. It must be possible as several commercial (and bloated, for my needs) control panels offer similar functionality. Thanks

  • How can I capture webcam view with Microsoft Movie Maker

    - by Edward Tanguay
I used to use Microsoft Movie Maker to record video from my webcam. Now I have Win7 and just downloaded the latest version of movie maker (14.0.8091.0730), the one that has the Office-10-like Ribbon on the top. But in this version I find no way to capture video as in the older versions. How can I capture video from my webcam with this newest version of Movie Maker?

  • Upload a Photo to Facebook with REST API and Ruby

    - by Michael Waxman
It's much harder than you'd think: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Photos.upload The tricky part is how to create the MIME multi-part message in Rails, which Facebook requires. I'm also using a Ruby Facebook API gem (mini_fb) which signs my other requests, and in addition to having no idea how to set up the MIME multi-part, even if I did I'm not sure how to add in the required signature values with the gem. Please help!

  • iphone - UIImagePickerController compressing video?

    - by Mike
I am using a UIImagePickerController to get a video from the library. So, I am using this picker = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; picker.delegate = self; picker.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypePhotoLibrary; picker.mediaTypes = [UIImagePickerController availableMediaTypesForSourceType:picker.sourceType]; picker.allowsEditing = NO; picker.mediaTypes = [NSArray arrayWithObject:(NSString *)kUTTypeMovie]; [self presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES]; [picker release]; As soon as I select the video and tap on CHOOSE, I see the message "Compressing Video" and it stays ages stuck... I waited for 5 minutes and the message was still there. Is there a way to prevent this? Why I cannot simply take a copy of the move as it is. I do not want any compressing... is there a way to solve this? thanks.

  • How to define a static array without a contant size in a constructor of a class? (C++)

    - by Keand64
I have a class defined as: class Obj { public: int width, height; Obj(int w, int h); } and I need it to contain a static array like so: int presc[width][height]; however, I cannot define within the class, so it it possible to create a pointer to a 2D array (and, out of curiosity, 3, 4, and 5D arrays), have that as a member of the class, and intitalize it in the constructor like: int ar[5][6]; Obj o(5, 6, &ar); If that isn't possible, is there any way to get a static array without a contant size in a class, or am I going to have to use a dynamic array? (Something I don't want to do because I don't plan on ever changing the size of the array after it's created.)

  • is there a way to use cin.getline() without having to define a char array size before hand?

    - by zebraman
Basically my task is having to sort a bunch of strings of variable length ignoring case. I understand there is a function strcasecmp() that compares cstrings, but doesn't work on strings. Right now I'm using getline() for strings so I can just read in the strings one line at a time. I add these to a vector of strings, then convert to cstrings for each call of strcasecmp(). Instead of having to convert each string to a cstring before comparing with strcasecmp(), I was wondering if there was a way I could use cin.getline() for cstrings without having a predefined char array size. Or, would the best solution be to just read in string, convert to cstring, store in vector, then sort?

  • Why does my Delphi program's memory continue to grow?

    - by lkessler
I am using Delphi 2009 which has the FastMM4 memory manager built into it. My program reads in and processes a large dataset. All memory is freed correctly whenever I clear the dataset or exit the program. It has no memory leaks at all. Using the CurrentMemoryUsage routine given in spenwarr's answer to: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/437683/how-to-get-the-memory-used-by-a-delphi-program, I have displayed the memory used by FastMM4 during processing. What seems to be happening is that memory is use is growing after every process and release cycle. e.g.: 1,456 KB used after starting my program with no dataset. 218,455 KB used after loading a large dataset. 71,994 KB after clearing the dataset completely. If I exit at this point (or any point in my example), no memory leaks are reported. 271,905 KB used after loading the same dataset again. 125,443 KB after clearing the dataset completely. 325,519 KB used after loading the same dataset again. 179,059 KB after clearing the dataset completely. 378,752 KB used after loading the same dataset again. It seems that my program's memory use is growing by about 53,400 KB upon each load/clear cycle. Task Manager confirms that this is actually happening. I have heard that FastMM4 does not always release all of the program's memory back to the Operating system when objects are freed so that it can keep some memory around when it needs more. But this continual growing bothers me. Since no memory leaks are reported, I can't identify a problem. Does anyone know why this is happening, if it is bad, and if there is anything I can or should do about it?
