  • SSIS - Access Denied with UNC paths - The file name is a device or contains invalid characters

    I spent another day tearing my hair out yesterday trying to resolve an issue with SSIS packages runnning in SQLAgent (not got much left at the moment, maybe I should contact the SSIS team for a wig). My situation was that I am deploying packages to a development server, and to provide isolation I was running jobs with a proxy account that only had access to the development servers. Proxies are an awesome feature and mean that you should never have to "just run the job as sysadmin". The issue I was facing was that the job step was failing. The job step was a simple execution of the package.The following errors appeared in my log file. I always check the "Log step output in history" for a job step, this ensures you get all the output from the command that you run. I'll blog about this later. If looking at the output in sysdtslog90 then you will have an entry with datacode -1073573533 and error message File or directory "<filename>" represented by connection "<connection>" does not exist.  Not exactly helpful. If you get the output from the console then you will also get these errors. 0xC0202070 "The file name property is not valid. The file name is a device or contains invalid characters." 0xC001401E "specified in the connection was not valid." It appears this error is due to the use of a UNC path and the account runnnig the package not having access to all the folders in the path. Solution To solve this you need to ensure that the proxy account has access to ALL folders in the path you are accessing. To check this works, logon as the relevant proxy user, or run a command window as the specified user. Then try and do net use \\server\share and then do a dir for each folder in the path and check you have access. If these work and you still have the problem then you have some other problem, sorry.   • SQL MDS - Updating the Name attribute of member using Staging Table

    Creating member is usually done by populating the Member Staging Table (tblStgMember), during this process you assign a value for member code and member name. Now if you want to update the member name attribute you can do this by adding record in Attribute staging table (tblStgMemberAttribute) with Attribute Name = "Name".   • Parsing language for both binary and character files

    The problem: You have some data and your program needs specified input. For example strings which are numbers. You are searching for a way to transform the original data in a format you need. And the problem is: The source can be anything. It can be XML, property lists, binary which contains the needed data deeply embedded in binary junk. And your output format may vary also: It can be number strings, float, doubles.... You don't want to program. You want routines which gives you commands capable to transform the data in a form you wish. Surely it contains regular expressions, but it is very good designed and it offers capabilities which are sometimes much more easier and more powerful. Something like a super-grep which you can access (!) as program routines, not only as tool. It allows: joining/grouping/merging of results inserting/deleting/finding/replacing write macros which allows to execute a command chain repeatedly meta-grouping (lists-tables-hypertables) Example (No, I am not looking for a solution to this, it is just an example): You want to read xml strings embedded in a binary file with variable length records. Your tool reads the record length and deletes the junk surrounding your text. Now it splits open the xml and extracts the strings. Being Indian number glyphs and containing decimal commas instead of decimal points, your tool transforms it into ASCII and replaces commas with points. Now the results must be stored into matrices of variable length....etc. etc. I am searching for a good language / language-design and if possible, an implementation. Which design do you like or even, if it does not fulfill the conditions, wouldn't you want to miss ? EDIT: The question is if a solution for the problem exists and if yes, which implementations are available. You DO NOT implement your own sorting algorithm if Quicksort, Mergesort and Heapsort is available. You DO NOT invent your own text parsing method if you have regular expressions. You DO NOT invent your own 3D language for graphics if OpenGL/Direct3D is available. There are existing solutions or at least papers describing the problem and giving suggestions. And there are people who may have worked and experienced such problems and who can give ideas and suggestions. The idea that this problem is totally new and I should work out and implement it myself without background knowledge seems for me, I must admit, totally off the mark.

  • JasperReports: is it possible to use multiple data sources, or if not, to use collections in paramet

    It seems that the reporting idiom is that a report consist of a single list of items, with some additional data (parameters). Are there ways to include several unrelated lists in a report, or would this go against the idiom to such an extent that a different tool should rather be used to generate the output? Suppose, for instance, you have a list of Persons that lives in a Building, with names, phone numbers and so on. This list would be the main datasource. Additionally, on the same report you want to show various other information about that Building, such as address, number of floors and so on. The number of items in this information might vary between Buildings, so that you cannot simply put it into static parameters, but would need a map or a list. This is of course a contrieved example, but should serve to illustrate the problem. In short: can you use several unrelated lists in a report?

  • Displaying desired properties from search results with grails compass

    Hi, I've been stumped with the problem of displaying a selected set of properties returned as a result via a Compass query in grails. I have 300 columns in my domain class and what I'd like to do is to return ONLY THOSE values I specify (around 10 - 15 properties/fields/columns). All the 300 columns have been indexed, btw. I know I can do this using Lucene by cycling through returned hits and selectively calling a=getField(column_name), et c.   • What's the best way to manage a multi-user project on github?

    I'm looking to host a new project on github. This project will be worked on by two coders. One of these coders will also be the project manager who will have overall control over the github repo. I've followed the instructions regarding forking a github project at http://help.github.com/forking/. This all works fine and I'm working on the basis that the main repo is controlled by the lead coder, with the secondary coder working on a fork and submitting pull requests to the lead. A problem arises with this, however, when changes are made to the main branch and not pulled by the secondary coder into their fork. The secondary coder could then make changes to their own fork and submit a pull request to the lead, only for their patches to not match up with the main branch. What's the best way to manage this? I've not committed too much time to git/github, so I'm totally up for checking out other hosted solutions if they're better. Simplicity is the key!

  • How to handle null {id} on route?

    What if a user hits my site with http://www.mysite.com/Quote/Edit rather than http://www.mysite.com/Quote/Edit/1000 In other words, they do not specify a value for {id}. If they do not, I want to display a nice "Not Found" page, since they did not give an ID. I currentl handle this by accepting a nullable int as the parameter in the Controller Action and it works fine. However, I'm curious if there a more standard MVC framework way of handling this, rather than the code I presently use (see below). Is a smoother way to handle this, or is this pretty mush the right way to do it?   • MongoDB architectural question

    I have to store 4 Models. Let's say a Post that has many and belongs to many Categories. Category on the other hand has many Qualities. At the moment I'm of the opinion, that Post and Categories are Documents. Qualities becomes an EmbeddedDocument of Categories. We're coming to the root problem: There are a lot of Votes on Qualities that belong to a Post. I thought about embed Votes in Post and give it a quality_id. I am really expecting a lot of Votes and there has to be a possibility to filter them (e.g by Username / Usergroup / Date voted). I worked with MongoMapper and I think the missing existence of find methods for EmbeddedDocuments could become a killer. On the other hand I'm wondering about performance issues. What if I want to provide a Post without all the Votes, but only a few. Or, what if I define an own Document for Votes and have tons of Vote-Documents? Wouldn't that become a performance killer?

  • Caching the response of an ASP.NET HTTP Handler server and client side

    Is it possible to cache the response of a http handler on the server and on the client? This doesn't seem to be doing the trick: _context.Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public); _context.Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.AddDays(7)); The _context is the HTTPContext passed as an argument to the ProcessRequest method on the IHttpHandler implementation. Any ideas? Update: The client does cache images that are loaded through the httphandler, but if another client does the same call, the server hasn't got it cached. So for each client that asks for the image, the server goes to the database (and filestream). If we use a aspx page instead of a httphandler together with a caching profile, then the images are cached both on the client and the server.

    Hi, I'm working on a online quiz client where we use a dedicated custom-made linux distro which contains only the quiz client software along with text editors and other utility software. When the user has started the quiz, I want to prevent him/her from minimizing the window/closing it/switching to the desktop or other windows. The quizzes can be attempted using only the mouse, so I need the keyboard to be completed disabled for the period of the quiz. How could I do this, using Qt or Mono?
