• Qt: How to use QTimer to print a message to a QTextBrowser every 10 seconds?

  Hello, I have working at this for hours and cannot figure it out nor can I find any help online that works. Basically the gist of what I am trying to accomplish is to have a Qt GUI with a button and a QTextBrowser. When I push the button I want it to diplay a message and then keep printing this message every 10 seconds. I figured I would use QTimer because it makes sense to have a timer to diplay the message every 10 seconds. When I originally implemented this into my buttonClicked() SLOT it caused the program to freeze. I looked online for a solution and found QApplication::processEvents(). So basically in my function I had something like this: while(1) { QTimer *timer; connect(...) //omitted parameters for this example timer.start(10000); ui->diplay->append("Message"); while(timer.isActive()) { QApplication::processEvents() } } I figured it would break out of the timer.isActive() while loop but it won't it simply stays in there. So I figured this is a threading issue. So I figured out how to use QThreads but I still can't get it to work. Basically when I create a thread with a timer on it and the thread tells the timer to start, the program closes and the console says "The program has unexpectedly finished". • Launching python within python and timezone issue

  I had to make a launcher script for my django app, and it seems it somehow switches the timezone to GMT (default being +2), and every datetime is two hours behind when using the script. What could be causing that? • Memory allocation in Linux

  Hello! I have a multi threaded application where I allocate buffers with data, which then wait in queues to be send via sockets. All buffers are reproducible because I use only buffers of fixed size in whole program (1024, 2048, 2080 and 5248 bytes). I noticed, that my program usually use up to 10 buffers of each length type at the same moment. So far I always manually allocate new buffer and then free it (using malloc() and free ()) where it's not needed any more. I started wondering if Linux is enough smart to cache this memory for me, so next time I allocate new buffer system only quickly receive a buffer I have already used before and not perform heavy operation of allocating new memory block?

  Hi I am going to make a simple application that uses a database. I could need some guidance on how to structure it. I shall make question program. What I have in mind is. One table with questions One table with the difficulity of the question One table with the category of the question However, what do I do with the answers? Have them as seperate columns in the question-table? It sounds like a bad practice.(Also, where do I have the correct answer) Each question will have 5 answers where only one of them is correct.

• Simple addView problem

I have a Nib with a view that has a class identity set to TestView In my view controller, I use the following code: CGRect myRect = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320,240); TestView *myTest = [[TestView alloc] initWithFrame:myRect]; [self.view addSubview:myTest]; I have a NSLog in the TestView class's initWithFrame that fires when the above code is executed, but the view doesn't appear in the view controllers view. • Windows 7 equivalent of "Add-WindowsFeature"

  I'm wanting to script the "Turn Windows Features On of Off" functionality for my development group so that we'll have a means of ensuring that everyone is running on the same configurations. We are running Windows 7. Is this possible without DISM.exe? It doesn't necessarily have to be scripting. Windows Features is just one of serveral configurations that developers are responsible for modifying personally. It would also be nice to ensure (for example) that IIS and certain services are configured properly on a given developer's machine. If there's a larger scale tool that could give us this functionality, I would be interested in that too.

• Exim queue in WHM

  Hi fellas, I've got the centos server with WHM. The mail server is exim. I need exim put all messages in queue and not sending directly.Though I've added the queue_only option to exim configuration and the messages are collected in the queue now. Afterwards I've found out that someone is calling exim -q to process the queue every once in a while. I've found the following cron job: 0 6 * * * /scripts/exim_tidydb > /dev/null 2>&1 which I beleive has been used to process the exim queue. Also I suspect that script was installed alongside with WHM. Surely I've commented it out and was expecting everything to work just fine. But that didn't happen. I still get the exim queue processed once in a while. Am I missing anything? What may cause my exim queue to process? Here is cat /etc/exim.conf | grep queue queue_only deliver_queue_load_max = 3 Thanks

• I want Lotus Domino to only send one email to users that are both recipients and members of a cc'ed lotus group.

  Lotus Domino 7 and now Lotus Domino 8.5 The scenario: A@mycompany writes an email to b@internet and cc's it to group@mycompany. A@mycompany is a member of group@mycompany. With the initial email Domino is intelligent enough to not send the email which a@mycompany just wrote to a@mycompany again. But when b@internet answers to all (a@mycompany + group@mycompany) then a@mycompany gets this email twice, because he is not only the author but also a member of group@mycompany. During the smtp session the email is sent once with the recipients set to a@mycompany and group@mycompany and a single esmtp id. So Domino should well be able to see that the mail should only be sent to a@mycompany once. Can I make Lotus Domino behave in this sane fashion?

• Add user in CentOS 5

  I created a new user in my CentOS web server with useradd. Added a password with passwd. But I can't log in with the user via SSH. I keep getting 'access denied'. • What is a good replacement for StumbleUpon's Share feature?

  I've been using Firefox + StumbleUpon's Share feature with my friends for years now. It is a perfect way of sharing links directly with your friends. You first need to be Following each other and then on the SU toolbar, you can "Share" with your list of friends. You can even include a personal message. The friend will receive a notification with # of pending shares in their toolbar (bold & red). They click the stumble button and it will navigate to the site plus show a yellow bar with your message. I literally use it daily. But then Chrome came along and beat the tar out of Firefox (and other browsers) in terms of usability and performance. But it doesn't (and never will according to Google) allow toolbars. StumbleUpon's solution in Chrome is a fake toolbar (html) that gets injected into the page you're viewing. It's buggy and performance is low. Overall it's not an acceptable solution. I'm looking for a replacement with something that is just as easy to send/receive links. I was thinking of Twitter DM's and using a bookmarklet, but I wanted to survey the collective for other options Thanks in advance for your input!

• dig lookup different from system lookup

  Hello, I am running dd-wrt and I configured it's dns server to resolve a few hosts inside my network. When I use dig to lookup these hosts, they are resolved OK, but when I try to ping those hosts I always receive an unknown host error message. • How can I enable Javascript in Firefox, or what is stopping it from being enabled?

  XP3 Firefox 3.6.9 The Superuser and other sites state that I don't have Javascript enabled. I also am unable to view certain videos on the web and they say that I must have Javascript enabled. I have searched the net and followed instructions as to enable this, but still no joy. Can anyone point me to a solution? • Remote Desktop svchost (networkservice) & lsa.exe high cpu usage, hangs on welcome screen

  We have deployed an RDS Farm with 12 virtual RDS servers using Hyper V. Currently some users are not able to log on. After passing credentials to the connection broker, the session hangs on the "Welcome" screen. Using resource monitor we've seen that svchost (with the "networkservice" service) has a CPU usage of 50%, when viewing the wait chain on the process it displays that it's waiting for a lsa.exe to finish. We can't kill any of the users processes, even when trying with taskkill /f. Suspending lsa.exe did work but didn't have any effect. The networkservice also couldn't be restarted. Also, if this happens, the current users logged on to the RDS server can't be displayed. Task manager crashes when viewing the users, RDS service manager crashes when viewing the users (even remotely) and the cmd command "query session" doesn't work. No antivirus is installed on the RDS server. The only thing we can do is rebooting the server, which is not an option because of the fact that other users are in active sessions. Does anyone have ANY idea what's going on? We didn't encounter this in our pre-production setup.

After working a bit lately with Netgears ReadyNAS's units, I have become really spoiled with how easy it was to set up network shares and giving a specific user different levels of network access to a specific share (forbidden access, read, read/write). • Concerning persistence size in the Linux Live Creator

  Message : Hello everyone! I have ,for the last several months, used the Linux Live USB Creator which it is a very useful app to make portable OS on to flash drives. I mostly use this application to test and try out new OS's as they are released, before I decide to make a hard disk installatio on to the computer. In many cases, the application developers will allow the “persistence” feature in the flash-drive-installed OS, which is just another way of saying that after multiple boot-ups and shutdowns, all the changes made to the OS will be saved in the flash-drive. But I have a question about the limit of the Persistence size in Linux Live USB Creator (currently version 2.6). I install Super OS 10 on to a partition on my external drive which has 30 GB. I wanted to reserve 10 GB for the persistence so that I can install more applications and space will not run out as I update the installed applications or when I do system updates. But why is it that only 3950 MB can be put for persistence? It would be great if, when desired, as much more persistence space could be set aside so that the space will not run out soon. Also, as I have installed the OS on a 30 GB drive, I tried to see how much space is left. But it seems only the remaining of the Persistence space is displayed when I click on the File System folder. For example, after I have just installed it now, there is 3.5 GB of free space. Where can I access the remaining 26 GB or so drive space which is in the same drive? How do I access it Sir?? It would be helpful if any one could explain and help me with this. Most importantly, it would be a big relief if the persistence can be somehow expanded by a work-around so that I can continue using my SuperOS 10.04 (now heavily customized) OS, which unfortunately has just over 576 MB of space left now, after I removed OpenOffice.org and installed the Libre Office earlier today. This is what remains from the maximum allowable 3950 MB of space for persistence at set-up. Thanks in advance!

• Change user login in Windows 7 (after a misprint in username)

  I have an install of Windows 7 that I've already put a few days into. Today I realized I've made a mistake in the username and it's driving me nuts (my personal OCD). While changing the physical folder name is perhaps possible, though quite involved, I do not want to open that can of worms. What I want to do is simply change the username I give when the login prompt shows up. I thought it's possible by just renaming the user account in the User Accounts but that didn't work. Is it possible to do then? Or is the only way to create another user and spend hour migrating everything I'd already customized to that user?

• Third party biometric software.

  Most of us with fingerprint readers and such devices probably use the software provided by the vendor, to enable biometric OS login or single sign-on functionality. However, I've recently wondered if there is any third-party software that will do the same thing? This would be similar to how you don't need the manufacturer's software to use a scanner, printer, or webcam - you just use their drivers and your choice of software. Is there anything like this for fingerprint readers or other biometric devices? Free or Open Source projects are preferred, but I'd be interested in learning about any existing solutions regardless. I personally am particularly interested in Windows-compatible software, but I'll leave the query open for any OS.
