  • Associate specific file extensions with my delphi app - any library for this?

    Hi, so far if I had to associate the file extension with my application I used to simply modify the registry. However I haven't been doing it for years, and I'm afraid the things might have changed a bit. I have no idea how to prevent registry access restrictions in Windows 7 / Vista (if there are any for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT). Thus I'm looking for some delphi library, unit, code snippet or whatever which works reliably under XP, Vista and 7. Is there any which handles "backup" as well? By backup I mean possibility to revert the changes to the previous association ... Thanks in advance, m.

  • Debugging a WCF service timeout on the server

    Hi, I've got a WCF service that I'm hosting in IIS 7, which I connect to from a .NET page. The service and page work fine when I test it locally from Visual Studio, but when I put it on my staging server I get a TimeoutException. Any suggestions on how I can debug this to work out what's going wrong?

  • Where c++ really shines?

    I know C and python, and I'm moving toward another language for learning purposes. My problem is that I like to learn things with something to do (for example contributing to some project or do something amazing, not boring plain algebra). I would like to hear suggestions about the fields in which C++ shines and where I can found interesting programming with C++. (for fields I mean networking/gui programming/algorithms/games ...)

  • python win32com EXCEL data input error

    Welcome, I'm exporting results of my script into Excel spreadsheet. Everything works fine, I put big sets of data into SpreadSheet, but sometimes an error occurs: File "C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\win32com\client\dynamic.py", line 550, in __setattr__ self._oleobj_.Invoke(entry.dispid, 0, invoke_type, 0, value) pywintypes.com_error: (-2147352567, 'Exception.', (0, None, None, None, 0, -2146777998), None)*** I suppose It's not a problem of input data format. I put several different types of data strings, ints, floats, lists and it works fine. When I run the sript for the second time it works fine - no error. What's going on? PS. This is code that generates error, what's strange is that the error doesn't occur always.   • Efficient Clojure workflow?

    I am developing a pet project with Clojure, but wonder if I can speed up my workflow a bit. My current workflow (with Compojure) is: Start Swank with lein swank. Go to Emacs, connect with M-x slime-connect. Load all existing source files one by one. This also starts a Jetty server and an application. Write some code in REPL. When satisfied with experiments, write a full version of a construct I had in mind. Eval (C-c C-c) it. Switch REPL to namespace where this construct resides and test it. Switch to browser and reload browser tab with the affected page. Tweak the code, eval it, check in the browser. Repeat any of the above. There are a number of annoyances with it: I have to switch between Emacs and the browser (or browsers if I am testing things like templating with multiple browsers) all the time. Is there a common idiom to automate this? I used to have a JavaScript bit that reloads the page continuously, but it's of limited utility, obviously, when I have to interact with the page for more than a few seconds. My JVM instance becomes "dirty" when I experiment and write test functions. Basically namespaces become polluted, especially if I'm refactoring and moving the functions between namespaces. This can lead to symbol collisions and I need to restart Swank. Can I undef a symbol? I load all source files one by one (C-c C-k) upon restarting Swank. I suspect I'm doing it all wrong. Switching between the REPL and the file editor can be a bit irritating, especially when I have a lot of Emacs tabs open, alongside the browser(s). I'm looking for ways to improve the above points and the entire workflow in general, so I'd appreciate if you'd share yours. P. S. I have also used Vimclojure before, so Vimclojure-based workflows are welcome too.

  • Wordpress php: Way to test if pages are children of a parent page?

    Hi - Working on my first Wordpress site so I'm sure this is a really basic question. I'm struggling to write a conditional php statement that performs a certain action when a page is a child of a parent page. For example, rather than just specifying one page, as below, I'd like to specify all pages that have the 'About Us' page as a parent: <?php if (is_page('About Us')) echo 'Hello World!'; ?> I've tried the "child_of" function but it wasn't as straightforward as I'd hoped. When I use the below, I get a syntax error - probably just me not knowing how to use the function: <?php if (child_of('About Us')) echo 'Hello World!'; ?> Any suggestions? Thanks!!

  • Prevent <xsi:nil="true"> on Nullable Value Types when Serializing to XML.

    I have added some nullable value types to my serializable class. I perform a serialization using XmlSerializer but when the value is set to null, I get an empty node with xsi:nil="true". This is the correct behaviour as I have found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ybce7f69%28VS.80%29.aspx Is there a way to switch off this option so that nothing is output when the value type is null?

  • CS Education, where was it? Where is it now? Where is it going?

    I'm planning on doing research into Computer Science education for my senior project and I could think of no better group of people to consult than the SO community. So, what do you think about the state of CS education in the United States (and the rest of the world, though I had planned on focusing on the US)? What do you feel are necessary topics? What topics are superfluous? Objects first vs. Objects early vs. Objects later? ALSO, if anyone has or knows of any blogs, studies, etc., those would be very helpful as well.

  • Real life usage of the projective plane theory

    I'm learning about the theory of the projective plane. Very generally speaking, it is an extension of the plane, which includes additional points which are defined as the intersection points of two parallel lines. In the projective plane, every two lines have an interesection point. Whether they're parallel or not. Every point in the projective plane can be represented by three numbers (you actually need less than that, but nevemind now). Is there any real life application which uses the projective plane? I can think that, for instance, a software which needs to find the intersections of a line, can benefit from always having an intersection point which might lead to simpler code, but is it really used?

At my class, I set a member var: NSString *m_movieName; ... @property(nonatomic, retain) NSString *m_movieName; At viewDidLoad method, I assign a default name to this var: -(void)viewDidLoad{ NSString *s1 = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"Forrest Gump"]; self.m_movieName = s1; ... [s1 release]; [super viewDidLoad] } At some function, I want to give a new name to this var, so I did like: -(void)SomeFunc{ NSString *s2 = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"Brave Heart"]; //[self.movieName release]; // ??????? Should perform here? self.m_moiveName = s2; [s2 release]; } I know, NSString* var is just a pointer to an allocated memory block, and 'assign' operation will increment this memory block's using count. For my situation, should I release m_movieName before assigning a value to it? If I do not release it (via [self.movieName release]), when and where will the previous block be released?   • BigInteger.ToString() returns more than 50 decimal digits.

    I'm using .NET 4 System.Numerics.BigInteger Structure and I'm getting results different from the documentation. In the documentation of BigInteger.ToString() Method It says: The ToString() method supports 50 decimal digits of precision. That is, if the BigInteger value has more than 50 digits, only the 50 most significant digits are preserved in the output string; all other digits are replaced with zeros. I have some code that takes a 60 decimal digits BigInteger and converts it to a string. The 60 significant decimal digits string didn't lose any significant digits: const string vString = "123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890"; Assert.AreEqual(60, vString.Length); BigInteger v = BigInteger.Parse(vString); Assert.AreEqual(60, v.ToString().Length); Assert.AreEqual('9', v.ToString()[58]); Assert.AreEqual('1', v.ToString()[0]); Assert.AreEqual(vString, v.ToString()); All the asserts pass. What exactly does the quoted part of the documentation mean?

  • Is C really a subset of C++?
