If you want to run server software inside a virtual machine, you’ll need to change its network type or forward ports through the virtual NAT. It actually provides some security, as it isolates the virtual machine from incoming connections. • Beginner: How to Make Explorer Always Show the Full Path in Windows 8

  In older versions of Windows the Title Bar used to display your current location in the file system. In Windows 8 this is not the default behavior, however, you can enable it if you wish to. Display the Full Path in the Windows Explorer Title Bar Press the Windows + E keyboard combination to open Windows Explorer and then switch over to the View tab. On the right-hand side click on options and then select Change folder and search options from the drop-down. When the Folder Options dialog opens, switch over to the View options. Here you will need to tick the Display the full path in the title bar check box. That’s all there is to it. • Maximize Your Quadcopter’s Range with a Wi-Fi Repeater

  The majority of commercial quadcopters use Wi-Fi for remote control and suffer from a fairly limited range. This simple hack uses an Wi-Fi router as an extender to radically expand the range of your copter. There’s no heavy modification or code tweaking required, all you need is a power source for the router and the ability to set it up as a repeater. The extra signal boost provided by the repeater extends the range from an average of 50 meters to over 250 meters. Check out the video above to see it in action. If you’re looking for a more dependable but more labor intensive way to extend the range of your copter, you can also retrofit it with a traditional radio-controlled remote. • Curiosity’s Descent to Mars in HD [Video]

  Thanks to the Mars Descent Imager (MARDI) mounted on the fore-port side of Curiosity we’re treated to a high-resolution video of Curiosity’s descent to Mars. The video from MARDI, combined with the video editing of YouTube user DLFitch, yields the above video. He writes: This is a full-resolution version of the NASA Curiosity rover descent to Mars, taken by the MARDI descent imager. As of August 20, all but a dozen 1600×1200 frames have been uploaded from the rover, and those missing were interpolated using thumbnail data. The result was applied a heavy noise reduction, color balance, and sharpening for best visibility. The video plays at 15fps, or 3x realtime. The heat shield impacts in the lower left frame at 0:21, and is shown enlarged at the end of the video. Image source. • Microsoft Launches Outlook.com

  Microsoft announced the news in its Outlook blog, calling the new service modern email for the next billion mailboxes. The company is touting a fresh, clean user interface with fewer pixels in the header and no display ads; it should work well on portable devices. Another key point: it uses Exchange ActiveSync to synchronize your mail, calendar and social experience across your smartphone, tablet and desktop computer.   Ryan Gallagher, writing for Slate, put two and two together from a lot of no comments. He noted that back in 2007, German police forces said that they couldn't tap into Skype calls because of of its strong encryption and complicated peer-to-peer network connections; in fact, Skype bluntly stated at the time that, due to its encryption and architecture techniques, it couldn't conduct wiretaps.
