  • xcopy and timeouts

    Related to this question and this answer http://serverfault.com/questions/48839/backup-on-disc-using-truecrypt-corruption-problem/50829#50829 I want to copy the backup to my HD. However the timeout seems to be a problem. I see many single files then i see File creation error - Data error (cyclic redundancy check). and its currently trying to copy the next file. When i click my computer i see nothing and it also locks up for some seconds (30 maybe) So TrueCrypt is not a good solution if i must be able to copy files back from a volume with a corrupted sector? (answer in other thread please). Is there any way for me to change the timeout? I look here for some flags and didnt see any http://www.scriptlogic.com/support/CustomScripts/XCOPYCommandLineParameters.html

    I wanted to get a quick report of some log entries I saw on a server, so I ran: Get-Eventlog -logname system -newest 10 -computer fs1 | fl I got events back however the descriptions were all wrong.   • Bring OS X Error Message window to the front

    In OS X, when an application crashes, a window with an error report will appear. That window is by default unreachable by Command+Tab nor does it appear in the Dock. Of course, if by error or on purpose one clicks another window, the error report will go to the background and hide behind the other windows. This is really annoying, because in order to see it, I will have to use Exposé and scan through 20+ Windows in order to find it. (Not to say, that I don’t like Exposé anymore since Snow Leopard made the window sizes all confusingly equal.) Any ideas on how to make the error reports Command+Tabbable?

  • Windows 7 Printing Issue

    I am using Windows 7 RTM x64. From Control Panel Devices and Printers, I have three printers listed; Fax, XPS Writer, and a Lexmark. I can print a test page through the printer properties with no problem. I can print a text file from Notepad with no problem. I can't print from Safari. When I press Ctrl+P, it displays the Print dialog, press OK and nothing happened. I can't print from Adobe Reader. When I press Ctrl+P, it complains that it there is no printer installed. I can't print from Office applications. When I press Ctrl+P, it crashes immediately. Running Office Diagnostics does not help. I can't print from IE8. When I press Ctrl+P, it displays the Print dialog, complains that I have to select a printer from the list, selected any of the three printers, the Print button is disabled. Any help? Update (01/11/2009): The default printer is the Lexmark. I'm testing on this one as well. I was about to reinstall Office (as this is the first application that has the problem), but then I tried other, some behave similarly but not identical (maybe caused by different printing implementation). On those applications that is able to display printer selection dialog, I tried the Lexmark and XPS. Neither printed anything (paper for Lexmark, file for XPS). Update (01/12/2009): It seems that my Windows installation is botched. A colleague have similar hardware/software combination (it's the same workstation model and Windows 7 x64) and his can print perfectly fine. I tried adding the printer from his share, no joy. I can test print from the printer property, I can print from Notepad, but not from any other application.

Here is the code for validators.js function isBlankString(value) { if (value.replace(/\s/g, "") == "") { return true; } else { return false; } } In other js file I have defined function for validating user name like this. function validateUsername(element) { var username = element.value; if(value.replace(/\s/g, "") == ""){ //nothing to validate return; }else{ //validation logic } } Now as it is obvious i should have used isBlankString(value) method to check string length. But I am clue less about how can i use the function defined in other file?

  • jQuery UI: How to change the color of a ProgressBar?

    I've set up a simple jQueryUI progressbar: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("#progressbar").progressbar({ value: 35 }); }); </script> <div id="progressbar"> </div> Now, I'd like to color the of the bar based on it's value (e.g. <10 red, <50 yellow, 50 green).   • Odd Drag and drop sorting error Rails for nested attributes

    I've got this weird bug when trying to use drag and drag for two models (one nested within another). I've a category model which has many apps. In my category index page, I tried use "content_tag_for" to sort categories and apps within each category. But for some odd reason only the first element has drag, drop enabled. I can drag and drop categories all I want, but I can't drag the app in the second category, just the first category. Copy and paste gets ridiculously hopeless with HAML, so here's a Pastie instead. I made a sample app on heroku for you to check out here. Drag and drag work for both category and app, so I'm guessing it has to do something with the ul or li. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • How costly performance-wise are these actions in iPhone objective-C?

    This is really a few questions in one, I'm wondering what the performance cost is for these things, as I haven't really been following a best practice of any sort for these. The answers may also be useful to other readers, if somebody knows these. (1) If I need the core data managed object context, is it bad to use #import "myAppDelegate.h" //farther down in the code: NSManagedObjectContext *context = [(myAppDelegate.h*)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext]; as opposed to leaving the warning you get if you don't cast the delegate? (2) What is the cheapest way to hard-code a string? I have been using return @"myString"; on occasion in some functions where I need to pass it to a variety of places, is it better to do it this way: static NSString *str = @"myString"; return str; (3) How costly is it to subclass an object i wrote vs. making a new one, in general? (4) When I am using core data and navigating through a hierarchy of some sort, is it necessary to turn things back into faults somehow after I read some info from them? or is this done automatically?   • jQuery: how to produce a ProgressBar from given markup

    So I'm using the ProgressBar JQuery plugin (http://t.wits.sg/misc/jQueryProgressBar/demo.php) to create some static progress bars. What I want to achieve is to from this markup: <span class="progress-bar">10 / 100</span> produce a progress bar with maximum value of 100 and current value of 10. I am using html() method to get the contents of the span and then split() to get the two numbers: $(document).ready(function() { $(".progress-bar").progressBar($(this).html().split(' / ')[0], { max: $(this).html().split(' / ')[1], textFormat: 'fraction' }); }); That doesn't work, any suggestions? I'm pretty sure the problem is with $(this).html().split(' / ')[0] and $(this).html().split(' / ')[1], is that a correct syntax?

  • Removing file from Mercurial MQ Patch

    I have large MQ patch applied in Mercurial. What has happened is I have done qrefresh and included files in my patch that I do not want to include. Is there a way to remove the changes to these file from my patch with out manually editing it? In this case if I was just working without MQ, all I would have to do is hg revert.

    Hello, I need IMMEDIATE Help on a computer crime that I was arrested for. It may involve my computer, my ip, and my ex-girlfriend being the true criminal. The police do not tell you much they are very vague. I was charged though! So my questions are: -If someone did use my computer at my house and business and post a rude craigslist ad about a friend of my girlfriend at the time from a fake email address, how can I be the ONLY one as a suspect. Also how can I be charged. I noticed the last few days there are many ways to use other peoples computers, connections, etc. Here are a few things I found: You can steal or illegally use an ip addresss or mac address. Dynamic Ip is less secure and more vulnerable than static. People can sidejack and spoof your Mac, Ip, etc. There is another thing called arp spoofing. I am sure this is more things, but how can I prove that this happened to me or didnt happen to me. -The police contacted Craigslist, the victim, aol, and the two isp companies. They say they traced the IP's to my business and my home. My ex was who I lived with and had a business with has access to the computers and the keys to bothe buildings. My brother also lives and works with me. My business has many teenagers who use the computer and wifi. My brother is a college kid and also has friends over the house and they use the computer freely. So how can they say it was me because of an angry ex girlfriend.

  • Screencasts vs Articles - which do you prefer?

    Recently, I've noticed that I've lost all patience with programming articles, and started watching screencasts instead. For example, the ASP.NET MVC site had lots of screencasts, so I watched those and got coding in no time. I was therefore wondering what the community thinks about screencasts and articles, particularly as I'm considering contributing material, and am pondering the format.   • Need help with text animation within UITableViewCell

    I'm trying to implement a simple text animation in a custom UITableViewCell without having to go into editing mode which automatically brings up the delete button on the right. What I'm trying to accomplish is that when the label is updated by a button within the UITableviewcell, the text in the label is updated but with some smooth animation like sliding to the right since the updated text is prepended to the string. Any sample code would be great. thanks
