• SSIS to copy data from one table to another, where not in destination table

  I'm in the process of creating an SSIS package on a server (server1) that looks at the data in a sql db on another site (server2) and copies relevant rows across. The SQL statement required is: SELECT * FROM server2.ordersTable WHERE OrderID Not In (SELECT OrderID FROM server1.ordersTable This selects data from server1 which isn't in the table on server2 (based on order id) I then need to insert the result into a table on server1 How would I approach this? What components do I need etc...?

• Using Option all over the place feels a bit awkward. Am I doing something wrong?

  As a result of articles I read about the Option class which helps you avoid NullPointerException's, I started to use it all over the place. Imagine something like this: var file:Option[File] = None and later when I use it: val actualFile = file.getOrElse(new File("nonexisting")) if(actualFile.getName.equals("nonexisting")) { // instead of null checking } else { // value of file was good } Doing stuff like this doesn't feel all that "right" to me. I also noticed that .get has become deprecated. . Is this sort of stuff what you guys are doing with Option's too, or am I going the wrong way?

• Is Zabbix the right tool for me?

  I just want to monitor a small handful of servers (less than 10). From reading various places it sounds like the top leading contenders (for open source at least) are: nagios munin zabbix From what I have read a lot of people tend to use munin and nagios together -- munin for history and graphs, and nagios for alerting. On the other hand it sounds like Zabbix is a more complete solution and easier to configure than either of the other two. So I was thinking of going that route. My thoughts right now are: What are the general disadvantages of Zabbix? Does Zabbix have a small footprint on boxes it is monitoring? Do I really need to setup an entire other server for it? I currently have a server that is under very light load -- can I dual purpose it?

• Is there a feature in Nagios that allows Memory between checks?

  There are various instances where there are values I want to monitor with Nagios, and I don't care as much about the value itself, but rather how it compares to the previous value. For instance, I wrote one to check the fail counters in OpenVZ. In this case, I didn't care about the value that much, but rather I cared if the value increased. Another example might be switch ports, I would be most interested to get alerted about the change of state of a port (Although perhaps a trap would be better for this one). For my OpenVZ script, I used a temp file, but I am wondering if there is a better way? Maybe Nagios has some variables that plugins (check scripts) can access that are persistent across checks?

  Hi all, I have got a strange problem about in_array recently which I cannot understand. e.g. $a = array('a','b','c'); $b = array(1,2,3); if (in_array(0,$a)) { echo "a bingo!\n"; } else { echo "a miss!\n"; } if (in_array(0,$b)) { echo "b bingo!\n"; } else { echo "b miss!\n"; } I ran it on my lamp,and got a bingo! b miss! I read the manual and set the third parament $strict as true,then it worked as expected.But does that mean I always need to set the strict parament as true when using in_array?Suggestions would be appreciated.   Would you start J2EE project nowadays if you have other alternatives? UPDATE: I think little clarification is needed: Is it worth investing in J2EE if practically everything it claims to offer can be achieved by using other technologies? To be honest, J2EE scares me by its monstrosity and I foresee substantial maintenance and/or evolution costs.

• Can't send key to window with SendMessage

  I'm writing a C program under Windows that should send an ENTER key to a dialog box to close it automatically. I retrieve the handle to the top level window I'm interested in (by means of EnumDesktopWindows()) and then try to send an ENTER key using SendMessage (note also that closing the window by sending WM_CLOSE works fine). None of the following works: SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_CHAR, VK_RETURN, 0 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_CHAR, VK_RETURN, 1 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_KEYDOWN, VK_RETURN, 1 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_KEYUP, VK_RETURN, 1 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_KEYDOWN, VK_RETURN, 1 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_CHAR, VK_RETURN, 1 ); SendMessage( hTargetWindow, WM_KEYUP, VK_RETURN, 1 ); and so on... As a possibly simpler scenario, I also tried to send an ascii key to, say, notepad. How is this supposed to work? Thanks in advance

  Yesterday I got this error The processing instruction target matching "[xX][mM][lL]" is not allowed when I investigated, it was caused by whitespace at the very start of my XML document. Not difficult to solve, but I was struck with how unhelpful that particular error message was to identifying the actual problem. So what other examples of obscure errors do people have, and are you willing to admit to some of your own making.

  Hi Guys, We are in the process of encrypting all the SSN columns (had to do it now due to security audit). We already built the DBML and now we have to change it. Can you guys let me know if there is a good way of handling this in LINQ to SQL? We use stored procedures for Insert, Update and Delete but use LINQ to SQL for all our selects (ease of use).   Can anybody help me with retrieving some elements from the following example text: sdfaasdflj asdfjl;a AB-12/34 BC-/85 CD-//8 DD-77 DE-78/9 EE-78-98 asdf; asdjf It is necessary to get the following elements: AB-12/34, BC-/85, CD-//8, DD-77, DE-78/9 When I'm using a regular expression like this: \s*(?<elements>\b[A-Z]{2}-[/0-9]+\b) everything works fine - all the necessary elements are being retrieved (except for the EE element are amonth them, but it doesn't matter). The problem is that this line is a part of a more complex regex, so when I'm trying to apply a regex like this: (?s).*\sas.*? \s*(?<elements>\b[A-Z]{2}-[/0-9]+\b)*.* .*as It only returns me just the first AB-12/34 element and nothing else. How to correct the regex to get all the elements? TIA.

  Hi there, From the Jobeet tutorial provided in Symfony website, I found out that I can load fixtures data each time I run unit test by using this script: Doctrine_Core::loadData(sfConfig::get('sf_test_dir').'/fixtures'); However, I want to delete and reload all records from database each time I run a unit test. Currently, I'm doing this manually (Run symfony doctrine:build --all before each test). Can someone provided me a correct way to do this?

  I am mocking a repository that should have 1 entity in it for the test scenario. The repository has to return this entity based on a known id and return nothing when other ids are passed in. I have tried doing something like this: _myRepository.Expect(item => item.Find(knownId)).Return(knownEntity); _myRepository.Expect(item => item.Find(Arg<Guid>.Is.Anything)).Return(null); It seems however the second line is overriding the first and the repository always returns null. I don't want to mock all the different possible IDs asked (they could go up to hundreds) when the test scenario is only concerned with the value of one Id.

• Animating inline elements with JQuery

  I am trying to show and hide an inline element (eg a span) using jquery. If I just use toggle(), it works as expected but if I use toggle("slow") to give it an animation, it turns the span into a block element and therefore inserts breaks. Is animation possible with inline elements? I would prefer a smooth sliding if possible, rather than a fade in. I have no control over the generation of the xml nor over the parser that coughs on empty attrs. So what I want to do is a pre-processing step that simply removes all empty attributes.
