  • Check if current Command Prompt was launched as the Administrator

    - by Canadian Luke
I am looking to write a script that takes user input, then makes system wide changes. I need this to be very generic, but simply put, at the top, I need it to check to see if it's being run 'As an Administrator'. If it's not, then I want to display a message to tell them that; if it is, I want it to continue on. Is there a constant way to verify this? I am not looking to start a new session as the Administrator, I just want to detect if it's currently run as admin

  • can't execute scripts compiled with shc

    - by serilain
I'm trying to use SHC to compile a shell script so that I can set the SUID bit on it and obfuscate what it's doing (I'm attempting to have it run as part of all new users' .bashrc). As a test, I wrote a script that's simply: #!/bin/bash env And compiled it using shc -r -f script.sh However, when I try to run the resulting script by simply doing ./script.sh.x, even after setting it to 777 (just for testing purposes), I get "Operation not permitted; killed" unless I run it as sudo (which I don't want to have to do). Am I running afoul of some Ubuntu permissions that won't let me run binaries created by shc? Thanks!

  • Windows 8.1 killed my wifi

    - by char1es
Was running Windows 8 on a Lenovo G780 and updated to windows 8.1 Wifi does not work anymore, i always receive a dns server not responding error. I have tried using public dns servers from Google but with still no results. I've restarted my router with no results. All other devices on my network are having no trouble at all. I've tried updating the wireless driver but the manufacturers website claims that the Win8.1 driver should be updated with the update from windows. So i cant find a wireless driver... Anyone else having this error and does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?? EDIT: here are the driver details: Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter Provider: Microsoft Driver Date: 2013-05-31 Driver Version: 6.30.223.102 Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Thanks

  • SSD cache to minimize HDD spin-up time?

    - by sirprize
short version first: I'm looking for Linux compatible software which is able to transparently cache HDD writes using an SSD. However, I only want to spin up the HDD once or twice a day (to write the cached data to the HDD). The rest of the time, the HDD should not be spinning due to noise concerns. Now the longer version: I have built a completely silent computer running Xubuntu. It has a A10-6700T APU, huge fanless cooler, fanless PSU, SSD. The problem is: it also has (and needs) a noisy HDD and I want to forbid spinning it up during the night. All writes should be cached on the SSD, reads are not needed in the night. Throughout every day, this computer will automatically download about 5 GB of data which will be retained for about a year, giving a total needed disk capacity of slightly less than 2 TB. This data is currently stored on a 3 TB noisy hard disk drive which is spinning day and night. Sometimes, I'll need to access some data from several months ago. However, most times I'll only need data from the last 14 days, which would fit on the SSD. Ideally, I'd like a transparent solution (all data on one filesystem) which caches all writes to the SSD, writing to the HDD only once a day. Reads would be served by the cache if they were still on the SDD, else the HDD would have to spin up. I have tried bcache without much success (using cache_mode=writeback, writeback_running=0, writeback_delay=86400, sequential_cutoff=0, congested_write_threshold_us=0 - anything missing?) and I read about ZFS ZIL/L2ARC but I'm not sure I can achieve my goal with ZFS. Any pointers? If all else fails, I will simply use some scripts to automatically copy files over to the big drive while deleting the oldest files from the SSD.

  • How can I set Google Chrome Canary as the default browser on Windows 8?

    - by Oak
Normally, Google Chrome Canary cannot be set to be the system's default browser - it shows the following message in its settings: This is a secondary installation of Google Chrome, and cannot be made your default browser. They have good reasons, but nevertheless I want to use it as my default. How can I set Google Chrome Canary as the default browser on Windows 8? I found numerous solutions online about previous Windows versions, all revolving around editing the registry, and unfortunately none of them were able to solve this for me.

  • USB Wireless keyboards not registering Ctrl Alt Delete when computer boots

    - by Donovan
I've recently installed a new PC at work. Its a Dell Optiplex 9010. I bought a USB wireless keyboard and mouse from Dell and subsequently from Logitech to use with this PC. The Dell keyboard is a model KM632 and the logitech is an mk260. Both units work properly and have decent range. The issue is when the PC boots they keyboard (neither model) will register a Ctrl+Alt+Delete to the PC. I can say for sure the keyboards are still functional as the media keys will still produce a result (notably the sleep key on the mk260). My gut reaction is I'm dealing with an issue in the PC or Windows. I'm not sure where to start though. If I unplug and reinsert the USB dongle both units will work. Also, I don't use both they keyboards at the same time I bought the Logitech fearing the Dell unit was bad. Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • How can I access my desktop computer from my Android phone?

    - by Qurben
Is it possible to access a computer connected to the internet through an Android phone? (the internet goes through the phone by tethering) I want to use ssh to connect to the computer (from a different computer in the same network), but I am not able to access the computer. Is it possible to portforward, use some kind of transparent proxy or to use DMZ? My phone is rooted and I have Cyanogenmod installed and I can use iptables. EDIT: The changed title completely changed the question! My setup is the following: I have an android phone connected to a computer through the usb cable tethering internet from the phone, I wanted to ssh into the computer behind the android phone from another computer in the same network as the android phone. This was not possible, because the android phone creates a separate network for the connected computer, effectively shielding it from any incoming signals. It turned out to be quite simple to fix by just using iptables.

  • Hablamos de Formación en la Conferencia Total Training en Lisboa

    - by Julio Rodriguez

  • Does Altova StyleVision support generation of these specific Word XML Word ML List Numbering Bullet Markup? Extend with custom external XSLT?

    - by Alex S
Does Altova StyleVision support generation of these specific Word XML Word ML List Numbering Bullet Markup? Extend with custom external XSLT? PS: I know is specific to Altova and their Dev Tools, but just like Eclipse and Visual Studio it is one of the widest used toolkits for XML related development & programming. So, please do not hate, ban or give negative. Linked below is a section of information for Word ML XML and its numbering, list, bullet etc. The markup is pretty extensive. I am wondering if this can be replicated via StyleVision or is this a limitation that needs to extended with an external XSLT? Quote: Key links to the Markup Documentation: http://officeopenxml.com/WPnumbering.php http://officeopenxml.com/WPnumberingAbstractNum.php Also: /WPnumberingLvl.php Short outline of the Documentation there: *Numbering, Levels and Lists* - Overview - Defining a Numbering Scheme - Defining a Particular Level ++ Numbering Level Text ++ Numbering Format ++ Displaying as Numerals Only ++ Restart Numbering ++ Picture or Image as Numbering Symbol ++ Justification ++ Overriding a Numbering Definition If StyleVision supports the above, where and how inside StyleVision can I access or use these properties/ attributes for the markup? From what I've gathered, I think it does not. In the past, I have written XSL-FO and XSL-WordML by hand. So I could write an add-on external XSLT containing Word specific markup for this purpose. *Given the limitation exists, the questions now: * Where and how do I create and linked inside of StyleVision so as to APPLY and EXTEND these capability limitations of StyleVision. AND How could I make it apply only for Word ML / Word XML output styling and be DEACTIVATED/ DISABLED for HTML and PDF output?

  • Automatic Appointment Conflict Resolution

    - by Thomas
I'm trying to figure out an algorithm for resolving appointment times. I currently have a naive algorithm that pushes down conflicting appointments repeatedly, until there are no more appointments. # The appointment list is always sorted on start time appointment_list = [ <Appointment: 10:00 -> 12:00>, <Appointment: 11:00 -> 12:30>, <Appointment: 13:00 -> 14:00>, <Appointment: 13:30 -> 14:30>, ] Constraints are that appointments: cannot be after 15:00 cannot be before 9:00 This is the naive algorithm for i, app in enumerate(appointment_list): for possible_conflict in appointment_list[i+1:]: if possible_conflict.start < app.end: difference = app.end - possible_conflict.start possible_conflict.end += difference possible_conflict.start += difference else: break This results in the following resolution, which obviously breaks those constraints, and the last appointment will have to be pushed to the following day. appointment_list = [ <Appointment: 10:00 -> 12:00>, <Appointment: 12:00 -> 13:30>, <Appointment: 13:30 -> 14:30>, <Appointment: 14:30 -> 15:30>, ] Obviously this is sub-optimal, It performs 3 appointment moves when the confict could have been resolved with one: if we were able to push the first appointment backwards, we could avoid moving all the subsequent appointments down. I'm thinking that there should be a sort of edit-distance approach that would calculate the least number of appointments that should be moved in order to resolve the scheduling conflict, but I can't get the a handle on the methodology. Should it be breadth-first or depth first solution search. When do I know if the solution is "good enough"?

  • Is there an alternative to javascript for the web that can do multi-threading and synchronous execution?

    - by rambodash
I would like to program web applications as I do with desktop programming languages, where the code is synchronously executed and browser doesn't freeze when doing loops. Yes I know there are workarounds using callbacks and setTimeout, but they are all workarounds after all and they don't give the same flexibility when programming in the orthodox way I've been looking at Dart as a possibilty, but I can't seem to find where it says it can do either of these. The same with haxe, emscript, and the hundreds of other converters that try to circumvent javascript. In the end it gets converted to Javascript so you ultimately have to be conscious about asynchronous/multi threading.

Here is the code below for the MySet and driver classes public class MySetTester { public static void main(String[]args) { MySet<String> strings = new MySet<String>(); strings.add("Hey!"); strings.add("Hey!"); strings.add("Hey!"); strings.add("Hey!"); strings.add("Hey!"); strings.add("Listen!"); strings.add("Listen!"); strings.add("Sorry, I couldn't resist."); strings.add("Sorry, I couldn't resist."); strings.add("(you know you would if you could)"); System.out.println("Testing add:\n"); System.out.println("Your size: " + strings.size() + ", contains(Sorry): " + strings.contains("Sorry, I couldn't resist.")); System.out.println("Exp. size: 4, contains(Sorry): true\n"); MySet<String> moreStrings = new MySet<String>(); moreStrings.add("Sorry, I couldn't resist."); moreStrings.add("(you know you would if you could)"); strings.removeAll(moreStrings); System.out.println("Testing remove and removeAll:\n"); System.out.println("Your size: " + strings.size() + ", contains(Sorry): " + strings.contains("Sorry, I couldn't resist.")); System.out.println("Exp. size: 2, contains(Sorry): false\n"); MySet<Integer> ints = new MySet<Integer>(); for (int i = 0; i < 100; i++) { ints.add(i); } System.out.println("Your size: " + ints.size()); System.out.println("Exp. size: 100\n"); for (int i = 0; i < 100; i += 2) { ints.remove(i); } System.out.println("Your size: " + ints.size()); System.out.println("Exp. size: 50\n"); MySet<Integer> zeroThroughNine = new MySet<Integer>(); for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { zeroThroughNine.add(i); } ints.retainAll(zeroThroughNine); System.out.println("ints should now only retain odd numbers" + " 0 through 10\n"); System.out.println("Testing your iterator:\n"); for (Integer i : ints) { System.out.println(i); } System.out.println("\nExpected: \n\n1 \n3 \n5 \n7 \n9\n"); System.out.println("Yours:"); for (String s : strings) { System.out.println(s); } System.out.println("\nExpected: \nHey! \nListen!"); strings.clear(); System.out.println("\nClearing your set...\n"); System.out.println("Your set is empty: " + strings.isEmpty()); System.out.println("Exp. set is empty: true"); } } And here is the main code. But still read the top part because that's where my examples are. import java.util.Set; import java.util.Collection; import java.lang.Iterable; import java.util.Iterator; import java.util.Arrays; import java.lang.reflect.Array; public class MySet implements Set, Iterable { // instance variables - replace the example below with your own private E[] backingArray; private int numElements; /** * Constructor for objects of class MySet */ public MySet() { backingArray=(E[]) new Object[5]; numElements=0; } public boolean add(E e){ for(Object elem:backingArray){ if (elem==null ? e==null : elem.equals(e)){ return false; } } if(numElements==backingArray.length){ E[] newArray=Arrays.copyOf(backingArray,backingArray.length*2); newArray[numElements]=e; numElements=numElements+1; backingArray=newArray; return true; } else{ backingArray[numElements]=e; numElements=numElements+1; return true; } } public boolean addAll(Collection<? extends E> c){ for(E elem:c){ this.add(elem); } return true; } public void clear(){ E[] newArray=(E[])new Object[backingArray.length]; numElements=0; backingArray=newArray; } public boolean equals(Object o){ if(o instanceof Set &&(((Set)o).size()==numElements)){ for(E elem:(Set<E>)o){ if (this.contains(o)==false){ return false; } return true; } } return false; } public boolean contains(Object o){ for(E backingElem:backingArray){ if (o!=null && o.equals(backingElem)){ return true; } } return false; } public boolean containsAll(Collection<?> c){ for(E elem:(Set<E>)c){ if(!(this.contains(elem))){ return false; } } return true; } public int hashCode(){ int sum=0; for(E elem:backingArray){ if(elem!=null){ sum=sum+elem.hashCode(); } } return sum; } public boolean isEmpty(){ if(numElements==0){ return true; } else{ return false; } } public boolean remove(Object o){ int i=0; for(Object elem:backingArray){ if(o!=null && o.equals(elem)){ backingArray[i]=null; numElements=numElements-1; E[] newArray=Arrays.copyOf(backingArray,backingArray.length-1); return true; } i=i+1; } return false; } public boolean removeAll(Collection<?> c){ for(Object elem:c){ this.remove(elem); } return true; } public boolean retainAll(Collection<?> c){ MySet<E> removalArray=new MySet<E>(); for(E arrayElem:backingArray){ if(arrayElem!= null && !(c.contains(arrayElem))){ this.remove(arrayElem); } } return false; } public int size(){ return numElements; } public <T> T[] toArray(T[] a) throws ArrayStoreException,NullPointerException{ for(int i=0;i<numElements;i++){ a[i]=(T)backingArray[i]; } for(int j=numElements;j<a.length;j++){ a[j]=null; } return a; } public Object[] toArray(){ Object[] newArray=new Object[numElements]; for(int i=0;i<numElements;i++){ newArray[i]=backingArray[i]; } return newArray; } public Iterator<E> iterator(){ setIterator iterator=new setIterator(); return iterator; } private class setIterator implements Iterator<E>{ private int currIndex; private E lastElement; public setIterator(){ currIndex=0; lastElement=null; } public boolean hasNext(){ while(currIndex<=numElements && backingArray[currIndex]==null){ currIndex=currIndex+1; } if (currIndex<=numElements){ return true; } return false; } public E next(){ E element=backingArray[currIndex]; currIndex=currIndex+1; lastElement=element; return element; } public void remove() throws UnsupportedOperationException,IllegalStateException{ if(lastElement!=null){ MySet.this.remove((Object)lastElement); numElements=numElements-1; } else{ throw new IllegalStateException(); } } } } I've been able to reduce the problems, but otherwise this thing is still causing problems.

  • Inserting HTML code with jquery

    - by J. Robertson
One of our web applications is a page that takes in a serial number and various information is returned and displayed to the user. The serial is passed via AJAX, and based on the response, one of the following can happen - An error message is shown A new form replaces the previous form Now, the way I am handling this is to use jQuery to destroy (using $.remove()) the table that displayed the initial serial form, then I'm appending another html table that contains another form. Right now I am including that additional form as part of the html source, and just setting it to display:none, then using jQuery to show it when appropriate. However, I don't like this approach because if someone views source on the page, they can see that table html code that is not being displayed. My next thought would be to use AJAX to read in another HTML file, and append it that way. However, I am trying to keep down the number of files this project uses, and since most pages in our project will use AJAX, I could see a case where there are multiple files containing HTML snippets - and that feels sloppy to me. What is the best way to handle a case where multiple html elements are being shown and removed with jQuery?
