  • is NATURAL JOIN any better than SELECT FROM WHERE in terms of performance ?

    Today I got into a debate with my project manager about Cartesian products. He says a 'natural join' is somehow much better than using 'select from where' because the later cause the db engine to internally perform a Cartesian product but the former uses another approach that prevents this. As far as I know, the natural join syntax is not any different in anyway than 'select from where' in terms of performance or meaning, I mean you can use either based on your taste. SELECT * FROM table1,table2 WHERE table1.id=table2.id SELECT * FROM table1 NATURAL JOIN table2 please elaborate about the first query causing a Cartesian product but the second one being somehow more smart

  • Initial conditions with a non-linear ODE in Mathematica

    Hi, I'm trying to use Mathematica's NDSolve[] to compute a geodesic along a sphere using the coupled ODE: x" - (x" . x) x = 0 The problem is that I can only enter initial conditions for x(0) and x'(0) and the solver is happy with the solution where x" = 0. The problem is that my geodesic on the sphere has the initial condition that x"(0) = -x(0), which I have no idea how to tell mathematica. If I add this as a condition, it says I'm adding True to the list of conditions. Here is my code: s1 = NDSolve[{x1''[t] - (x1[t] * x1''[t] + x2[t] * x2''[t] + x3[t]*x3''[t]) * x1[t] == 0, x2''[t] - (x1[t] * x1''[t] + x2[t] * x2''[t] + x3[t]*x3''[t]) * x2[t] == 0, x3''[t] - (x1[t] * x1''[t] + x2[t] * x2''[t] + x3[t]*x3''[t]) * x3[t] == 0, x1[0] == 1, x2[0] == 0, x3[0] == 0, x1'[0] == 0, x2'[0] == 0, x3'[0] == 1} , { x1, x2, x3}, {t, -1, 1}][[1]] I would like to modify this so that the initial acceleration is not zero but -x(0).   • It's easy to set a breakpoint when debugging VBA, but how about a "startpoint" or a "skippoint"?

    I'm debugging a subroutine in my VBA code. I want to ignore the first half and just run the second half. So, is there a way to set a 'startpoint'? Also, is there an easy way to ignore a specific line of code other than commenting? If not, I'll just continue commenting out all the code I don't want run. The problem with this, of course, is that I have to remember to uncomment the critical code before I send it on to Production.

    I have a problem. The thing is that I am using Visual Studio 2005 and .Net Framework 3.5 sp1. I have created the app and I want to have the .Net Framework prerequisite installed before however I can only select 2.0 . This wont go well since some columns in some of my grids will be arranged differently along with other problems. Is there any add-ins or something I can use to included .Net Framework 3.5 sp1 in my prerequisite list?

    I'm just beginning to use Linq-to-SQL and it's just wonderful to use. The problem is, this software is going to be run on a lot of machines and each machine will have a unique connection string. Is there a way for me to manually set the connection the Linq-to-SQL (.dbml) uses? The way I'm doing things now is creating the .dbml file, and in the graphic designer I'm dragging tables from the Server Explorer to the white board of the .dbml.

  • List of private iPhone APIs?

    . . Hi there, everybody. . . I need to do an app to be distributed ad hoc (it doesn't need to go to the store) but I need to get the information about the "data usage" (gprs/3g traffic). It is available on the system, but there is no official API call to get that info. One app made it through Apple testing (it's called "Download Meter"), though, and I emailed the guys to see if they would share the call, but they were not in that mood. . . Is there any list of private APIs or anything like that? Does anyone have any ideas of how could I get that info? Again: the app doesn't need to go to the store, but I need to install it on stock iPhone (ad hoc will do). . Thanks.

    Hello, I'm trying to execute a shell command from a java application, on the GNU/Linux platform. The problem is that the script, that calls another java application, never ends, although it runs successfully from bash. I tried to debug it: (gdb) bt #0 0xb773d422 in __kernel_vsyscall () #1 0xb7709b5d in pthread_join (threadid=3063909232, thread_return=0xbf9cb678) at pthread_join.c:89 #2 0x0804dd78 in ContinueInNewThread () #3 0x080497f6 in main () I tried with: ProcessBuilder(); and Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd); Looks like it waits for something to finish.     When i use this code <!--[if IE 6]> <link rel="stylesheet" href="ie6.css" type="text/css" /> <![endif]--> <!--[if !IE]> <link rel="stylesheet" href="not_ie.css" type="text/css" /> <![endif]--> IE 6 does correctly use the specified stylesheet but all other browsers ignore both when they should be using the one that basically states, use this stylesheet if you are not IE. Any ideas?

  • Writing to network share failed

    I have outlook files stored on a network share and accessed by clients directly. Outlook is version 2003, clients windows XP and server is 2003. The files are quite big at around 3GB. One of the common problem that happens is that I get 'delayed write failed' and this happens only on these PST files. When this happens I have to run scanpst.exe to fix the PST file. I did not find any entries in even logs that I could relate to the issue. What would you suggest to change to fix the issue or where to look to further diagnose it? EDIT: No loss on ping and ping times within normal for LAN.

  • Lots of artifacts while streaming HD content with VLC 0.9.9 on CentOS

    I'm trying to stream (multicast) a x264 encoded file using VLC. This in itself succeeds, but the stream has a huge lot of artifacts. This seems to suggest that the data cannot be transported fast enough. If I check network usage, though, it's only using about 15 mbit. I have a similar SD stream which functions perfectly. I think I could improve stream performance by not streaming the raw data, but I cannot seem to get this working. It seems that on keyframes all artifacts are removed for a short while (less than a second). This is the command I use: vlc -vv hdtest.mkv --sout '#duplicate{dst=rtp{dst=ff02::1%eth1,mux=ts,port=5678,sap,group="Testgroup",name="TeststreamHD"}}' --loop Which is all one long line.

  • Can't remote into Virtual PC

    I used to be able to remote into my Virtual PCs. It has been working for at least a year. Yesterday just stopped working... I cannot figure it out... Things I have triple-checked: 1. My Virtual PCs have "Allow Remote Access" checked. 2. My Virtual PCs have an account in the Administrator group that is password protected. 3. My Host's entry in the registry for the Terminal Services Port is still the default of 3389. So here is the strange thing. I can't even remote into the Virtual PC from it's host much less another PC... From the host, I can ping the Virtual PC and get a response but when trying to remote into it from the host I get the following error: Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: 1)Remote access to the server is not enabled. 2)The remote computer is turned off 3)The remote computer is not available on the network My host is running Windows 7. Virtual PCs are running XP. Thank you for looking at this!
