  • Most efficient algorithm for merging sorted IEnumerable<T>

    Hello, I have several huge sorted enumerable sequences that I want to merge. Theses lists are manipulated as IEnumerable but are already sorted. Since input lists are sorted, it should be possible to merge them in one trip, without re-sorting anything. I would like to keep the defered execution behavior. I tried to write a naive algorithm which do that (see below). However, it looks pretty ugly and I'm sure it can be optimized. It may exist a more academical algorithm...   • How would you validate a checkbox in ASP.Net MVC 2?

    Using MVC2, I have a simple ViewModel that contains a bool field that is rendered on the view as a checkbox. I would like to validate that the user checked the box. The [Required] attribute on my ViewModel doesn't seem to do the trick. I believe this is because the unchecked checkbox form field is not actually transmitted back during the POST, and therefore the validation doesn't run on it. Is there a standard way to handle checkbox "required" validation in MVC2? or do I have to write a custom validator for it? I suspect the custom validator won't get executed either for the reason mentioned above. Am I stuck checking for it explicitly in my controller? That seems messy... Any guidance would be appreciated.     We are migrating our web sites from Win2003/IIS6 to Win2008/IIS7. Our .NET code is in a WAP form with compiled binaries. I do dev work on a Win7/IIS7 box so had to learn early how to set up HTTP Handlers in this newer environment. So, I changed the precondition clause to: preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv2.0,bitness64" Now I get this instead: 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. Any ideas of what I should be doing, where I should be looking? TIA

  • How do I implement Hibernate Pagination using a cursor (so the results stay consistent, despite new

    Hey all, Is there any way to maintain a database cursor using Hibernate between web requests? Basically, I'm trying to implement pagination, but the data that is being paged is consistently changing (i.e. new records are added into the database). We are trying to set it up such that when you do your initial search (returning a maximum of 5000 results), and you page through the results, those same records always appear on the same page (i.e. we're not continuously running the query each time next and previous page buttons are clicked). The way we're currently implementing this is by merely selecting 5000 (at most) primary keys from the table we're paging, storing those keys in memory, and then just using 20 primary keys at a time to fetch their details from the database. However, we want to get away from having to store these keys in memory and would much prefer a database cursor that we just keep going back to and moving backwards and forwards over the cursor to generate pages. I tried doing this with Hibernate's ScrollableResults but found that I could not call methods like next() and previous() would cause an exception if you within a different web request / Hibernate session (no surprise there). Is there any way to reattach a ScrollableResults object to a Session, much the same way you would reattach a detached database object to make it persistent? Are there any other approaches to implement this data paging with consistent paging results without caching the primary keys?

    I am working on rolling a bit of my own version of linux for my real time car application. I plan to base it off of minimal ubuntu (only needsd 32 MB of memory). I am not the most skilled person with linux so not really sure how to assess components when adding them to my system. What I am looking for is a lightweight windows manager to replace gnome and it has to support the gtkmm library. Does anyone know of one?

  • Create fake subdirectories with htaccess and php AND keep existing directories as is.

    I have a website, which has numerous subdirectories already. (All existing in server's filesystem) I want to create new "virtual" sub-dirs with htaccess, but I only want the htaccess rule work for directories, listed in DB, and not existing in filesystem. i.e. File system has: /dir1/ & /dir2/ MySQL database has record for 'dir3' & 'dir4' And I want: A: mysite.com/dir1/ and mysite.com/dir2/ display existing old content B: mysite.com/dir3/ and mysite.com/dir4/ display content from MySQL provided by PHP sctipt via redirect like: mysite.com/myscript.php?dir=dir3 C: mysite.com/dir5/ display 404 error (Dir does not exist in DB nor in Database) Basically I want .htaccess to work like this: IF DIR Exists in DB - apply the rewrite rule and show content from myscript.php?dir=DIR ELSE don't apply any rule. I can create a separate php script, which can return 0/1 when given dir name exist in DB or not, but how do I make mod_rewrite get the data from that script? Is it possible with htaccess/PHP at all?

    Hi ! I'm currently using NSMutableArrays in my developments to store some data taken from an HTTP Servlet. Everything is fine since now I have to sort what is in my array. This is what I do : NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray arrayWithObjects:nil] retain]; [array addObject:[NSArray arrayWithObjects: "Label 1", 1, nil]]; [array addObject:[NSArray arrayWithObjects: "Label 2", 4, nil]]; [array addObject:[NSArray arrayWithObjects: "Label 3", 2, nil]]; [array addObject:[NSArray arrayWithObjects: "Label 4", 6, nil]]; [array addObject:[NSArray arrayWithObjects: "Label 5", 0, nil]]; First column contain a Label and 2nd one is a score I want the array to be sorted descending. Is the way I am storing my data a good one ? Is there a better way to do this than using NSMutableArrays in NSMutableArray ? I'm new to iPhone dev, I've seen some code about sorting but didn't feel good with that. Thanks in advance for your answers !

  • Cure for puzzle piece programming habits?

    Even though I went to a decent CS school, I was still taught with the mentality of programming with puzzle pieces. By puzzle pieces I mean, looking up code segments at each step of the development process and adding them together as needed. Eventually gathering all of the pieces and having a properly working program. So as an example, if in my program the next step is to tokenize a string, I go to google and search "how do I tokenize a string in language". All instead of critically thinking about its implementation. I personally don't think its a very good way to program and I always seem to forget everything that I have searched for. So how can I get out of this puzzle piece mode of programmer that I was taught.

I've been following a tutorial and a sample application, namely 5 Days of Wicket - Writing the tests: http://www.mysticcoders.com/blog/2009/03/10/5-days-of-wicket-writing-the-tests/ I've set up my own little project with a simple shoutbox that saves messages to a database. I then wanted to set up a couple of tests that would make sure that if a message is stored in the database, the retrieved object would contain the exact same data.   • Compose path (with boost::filesystem)

    I have a file that describes input data, which is split into several other files. In my descriptor file, I first give the path A that tells where all the other files are found. The originator may set either a relative (to location of the descriptor file) or absolute path. When my program is called, the user gives the name of the descriptor file. It may not be in the current working directory, so the filename B given may also contain directories. For my program to always find the input files at the right places, I need to combine this information. If the path A given is absolute, I need to just that one. If it is relative, I need to concatenate it to the path B (i.e. directory portion of the filename). I thought boost::filesystem::complete may do the job for me. Unfortunately, it seems it is not. I also did not understand how to test wether a path given is absolute or not. Any ideas?

  • Excel 2007 - Worksheet is larger than the window

    Hi This is an odd problem but frustrating none the less. I have a worksheet saved which is larger than the Excel 2007 "workarea". This means when I open the worksheet I cannot access the corners of the worksheet to reduce the size and the worksheets title bar area (with move,size,minimise etc) is hidden beneath the ribbon , even if I remove the ribbon , I still can't see the title bar. In Excel 2003 I've had a similar effect but I've always been able to hit the "alt" key to access the "Move" option. However in Excel 2007 , hitting "alt" brings up some shortcuts for the ribbon etc but I can't access the worksheet options. Has anyone else know how to access the worksheet drop down when this happens?

    I'm curious about people's opinion's and thoughts about this situation. The reason I'd like to lazy load javascript is because of performance. Loading javascript at the end of the body reduces the browser blocking and ends up with much faster page loads. But there is some automation I'm using to generate the html (django specifically). This automation has the convenience of allowing forms to be built with "Widgets" that output content it needs to render the entire widget (extra javascript, css, ...). The problem is that the widget wants to output javascript immediately into the middle of the document, but I want to ensure all javascript loads at the end of the body.
