  • What is the motivation behind "Use Extension Methods Sparingly?"

    I find them a very natural way to extend existing classes, especially when you just need to "spot-weld" some functionality onto an existing class. Microsoft says, "In general, we recommend that you implement extension methods sparingly and only when you have to." And yet extension methods form the foundation of Linq; in fact, Linq was the reason extension methods were created. Are there specific design criteria where using extension methods are perferred over inheritance or composition? Under what criteria are they discouraged?

  • How Do You Get the bufspec While Using Vimdiff Through Git

    I've read Vimdiff and Viewing differences with Vimdiff plus doing various google searches using things like "vimdiff multiple", "vimdiff git", "vimdiff commands" etc. When using do or diffg I get the error "More than two buffers in diff mode, don't know which one to use". When using diffg v:fname_in I get "No matching buffer for v:fname_in". From the vimdiff documentation: :[range]diffg[et] [bufspec] Modify the current buffer to undo difference with another buffer. If [bufspec] is given, that buffer is used. If [bufspec] refers to the current buffer then nothing happens. Otherwise this only works if there is one other buffer in diff mode. and more: When 'diffexpr' is not empty, Vim evaluates to obtain a diff file in the format mentioned. These variables are set to the file names used: v:fname_in original file v:fname_new new version of the same file v:fname_out resulting diff file So, I need to get the name of bufspec, but the default variables (fname_in, fname_new, and fname_out) aren't set. I ran the command git mergetool on a linux box through a terminal. [Edit] A partial solution that bred more questions. I used the "filename" at the bottom of the buffer. It's only a half answer, because occasionally I get a file does not exist error. I believe it's consistently the remote version of the file that "does not exist". I suspect this has something to do with git and indexing. How do you get the bufspec value consistently while using vimdiff through git-mergetool?

  • Loop through text nodes inside a div

    I am trying to do a text replace, but to do so, i need to loop through the text nodes of a div. Each Div upon clicking, loads via ajax it's appropriate content. But then I need to do text-replacing inside any of the text nodes inside there. My current code, after loading the ajax content, loops through all text nodes of the whole page, and therefore is too resource intensive. I have been looking for hours trying to find out how to both loop thru a div, and get the text nodes... and this has to work in firefox, google chrome and ie6. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Hi, I am having issues with JSF/ADF/PPR on refreshing the page incorrectly. I have a selectManyCheckBox with 5 options in it, one of the option is 'All'.     I have a number of links which I would like to get some information by using ajax calls and display the information as tooltip. I have bind the function that make the ajax call with the event on mouseover of the link something like: $('#div a').bind('mouseover', function () { //sending the ajax call } everything looks/work fine except, when the user unintentionally move the mouse pointer over all the links, I saw that there are many ajax calls. so my question how can I prevent the ajax call unless the users hover the mouse pointer on the link for at least 3 or 4 seconds first.

  • rewritten mysql query returning unexpected results, trying to figure out why

    I created a messy query in a hurry a while ago to get a list of product codes. I am now trying to clean up my tables and my code. I recently tried to rewrite the query in order for it to be easier to use and understand. The original query works great, but it requires multiple search strings in order to do one search because it uses UNIONS, and it has a few other issues. My newly modified query is easier to understand, and only requires one search string, but is returning different results. Basically the new query is leaving records out, and I would like to understand why, and how to fix it.   • Is it possible to load an assembly targeting a different .NET runtime version in a new app domain?

    Hello, I've an application that is based on .NET 2 runtime. I want to add a little bit of support for .NET 4 but don't want to (in the short term), convert the whole application (which is very large) to target .NET 4. I tried the 'obvious' approach of creating an application .config file, having this: <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true"> <supportedRuntime version="v4.0" /> </startup> but I ran into some problems that I noted here. I got the idea of creating a separate app domain. To test it, I created a WinForm project targeting .NET 2. I then created a class library targeting .NET 4.     Hi: I'm start using cakephp and i made a demo app using AjaxHelper $ajax->link('title', 'url', array('update' => 'mydiv')) Now i want to migrate that to cakephp 1.3 and AjaxHelper is deprecated on cake 1.3 and will be removed, so i want to accomplish the same with JsHelper which is replacing the functionality of AjaxHelper and JavascriptHelper I just can't find how to do that. I want to upgrade the versions to use jQuery out of the box with cakephp 1.3 and get rid of Prototype javascript library. so, any help ? I've already read the migration guide and nothing found yet.

  • What is cached on a client machine when using https.

    I have an application that is working on https for everybody and on http for all but two users. The two users get a JavaScript error when trying to "edit" a page while on http but can edit the page on https. The problem is for occurs for both IE6 and FF3.6 for one of these users. Others have no problem using any browser. I have used Charles Proxy to look at the server response and no request is being made to https when on http and all browser requests return successfully. I have cleared all caches known to me on the clients (browser, jvm). Are http and https caches stored in different locations on the clients computers. Could a cached encrypted file be being read on the unencrypted port.

  • How to name multiple versioned ServiceContracts in the same WCF service?

    When you have to introduce a breaking change in a ServiceContract, a best practice is to keep the old one and create a new one, and use some version identifier in the namespace. If I understand this correctly, I should be able to do the following: [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://foo.com/2010/01/14")] public interface IVersionedService { [OperationContract] string WriteGreeting(Person person); } [ServiceContract(Name = "IVersionedService", Namespace = "http://foo.com/2010/02/21")] public interface IVersionedService2 { [OperationContract(Name = "WriteGreeting")] Greeting WriteGreeting2(Person2 person); } With this I can create a service that supports both versions. This actually works, and it looks fine when testing from soapUI. However, when I create a client in Visual Studio using "Add Service Reference", VS disregards the namespaces and simply sees two interfaces with the same name. In order to differentiate them, VS adds "1" to the name of one of them. I end up with proxies called ServiceReference.VersionedServiceClient and ServiceReference.VersionedService1Client Now it's not easy for anybody to see which is the newer version. Should I give the interfaces different names? E.g IVersionedService1 IVersionedService2 or IVersionedService/2010/01/14 IVersionedService/2010/02/21 Doesn't this defeat the purpose of the namespace? Should I put them in different service classes and get a unique URL for each version?

  • Why is this file hidden when you run ls?

    For a few weeks now I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to delete this one particular file. As root I can, but my shell script runs as a different user. So I go run ls -la and it's not there. However, if I call it as a parameter, it shows up! Sure enough, the owner is root, hence I'm not able to delete. Notice, 6535 is missing ...   • Debugging EXC_BAD_ACCESS that occurs only on release target for an iPhone app?

    I'm developing an iPhone application. I have an EXC_BAD_ACCESS that occurs only in the release target; when I build the debug target the exception does not occur. However, when I set the NSZombieEnabled environment variable to YES, I still get the EXC_BAD_ACCESS with no further information. Is it even possible for NSZombieEnabled to work when executing the release target? I don't see why not, since gdb is running in both cases...   • Using a database with C#

    I have been trying to do something that I think would be really easy but have never used C# before and am having trouble with the details. I simple want to use a sql database with Visual C# Express 2008. For testing purposes I have a datagrid on my form that can reflect changes to the db. If i use this: codesTableAdapter.Fill(dataSet1.codes); The datagrid(dataset) will fill with the info from the sql database. If i then do something like this: codesTableAdapter.InsertQuery(txtCode.Text,txtName.Text); codesTableAdapter.Fill(dataSet1.codes); codesTableAdapter.Update(dataSet1); dataSet1.AcceptChanges(); The datagrid reflects the changes but if close the program and go to the database the changes are not there. When I open the program again the changes are not there. I have a feeling this isn't too clear as my understanding here is very low so please let me know what other info is needed. Thanks

  • jQuery UI Dialog Button Icons

    Is it possible to add icons to the buttons on a jQuery UI Dialog? I've tried doing it this way: $("#DeleteDialog").dialog({ resizable: false, height:150, modal: true, buttons: { 'Delete': function() { /* Do stuff */ $(this).dialog('close'); }, Cancel: function() { $(this).dialog('close'); } }, open: function() { $('.ui-dialog-buttonpane').find('button:contains("Cancel")').addClass('ui-icon-cancel'); $('.ui-dialog-buttonpane').find('button:contains("Delete")').addClass('ui-icon-trash'); } }); The selectors in the open function seem to be working fine. If I add the following to "open": $('.ui-dialog-buttonpane').find('button:contains("Delete")').css('color', 'red'); then I do get a Delete button with red text. That's not bad, but I'd really like that little trash can sprite on the Delete button as well.
