  • Advanced Where Statements in Linq to Entity Framework

    Hi, I am wanting to create a Where statement within my Linq statement, but have hit a bit of a stumbling block. I would like to split a string value, and then search using each array item in the Where clause. In my normal Sql statement I would simply loop through the string array, and build up there Where clause then either pass this to a stored procedure, or just execute the sql string. But am not sure how to do this with Linq to Entity? ( From o In db.TableName Where o.Field LIKE Stringvalue Select o ).ToList() Hope you can help. Thanks in advance!

  • MySQL Query Select using sub-select takes too long

    I noticed something strange while executing a select from 2 tables: SELECT * FROM table_1 WHERE id IN ( SELECT id_element FROM table_2 WHERE column_2=3103); This query took approximatively 242 seconds. But when I executed the subquery SELECT id_element FROM table_2 WHERE column_2=3103 it took less than 0.002s (and resulted 2 rows). Then, when I did SELECT * FROM table_1 WHERE id IN (/* prev.result */) it was the same: 0.002s. I was wondering why MySQL is doing the first query like that, taking much more time than the last 2 queries separately? Is it an optimal solution for selecting something based from the results of a sub-query? Other details: table_1 has approx. 9000 rows, and table_2 has 90000 rows. After I added an index on column_2 from table_2, the first query took 0.15s.

  • How to add a new Stage to my default stage?

    I want to add a new Stage called field to the default stage (i need to place different elements on it later). And then i want to add a bitmap called myBitmap to the field. But nothing happens.   • Does Socket open another thread? Does it return something?

    In the client application I call new Socket(serverIP,serverPort). As a result the client application sends a request to the server application to open a socket. Does it start a new thread? I mean which of the following is true? Client application sends a request and immediately starts to execute following commands (not weighting for the answer). Client sends the request and weights for the answer. As soon as the answer is obtained, the client application continues to execute following commands. The second case seems to be more realistic and logical for me. However, I do not understand what happens if the server does not open a socket and it does not say that it does not "want" to open the second (it can happen if the server does not exist or network is broken). What will happen in this case? Will server weight forever? In general it would be nice for the client to know what is the result of its request for the socket. For example I can imagine the following situations: The socket is opened by the server. The server refuses to open a socket. So, server exists, it got the request from the client but it says "no". There is no response from the server. I know that new Socket(serverIP,serverPort) does not "return" this kind of information. But it throws exceptions. One of them is "UnkownHostException". When it is thrown? When the server is not responding for a while (for how long)? ADDED: I just found out that UnknownHostException is thrown to indicate that the IP address of a host could not be determined. So, it is unrelated with the above described situations (server is not responding, server refuses to open a socket).

  • Use this. to access internal class members?

    On the internet I see a lot of code which uses this. to access local members of a class, like this: private String _whatever; public String Whatever { get { return this._whatever; } set { this._whatever = value; } } public void DoSomething() { String s = this.Whatever; this.DoSomething(); } (don't expect the code to do something sensible. I just wanted to show a few different uses for "this.") I wonder why to do this? To add more clarity to the source? Or is it just a waste of space?

  • Zend framework helper intellisense

    Not so much a programming problem, but more a productivity problem. We've got quite a few custom view and action helpers in our project. Working with around 7 programmers. Now when someone, creates a helper or if one would want to use a helper, it all goes through the brokers. This means we do not get intellisense for those helpers, which can be real time consuming, having to go look in the docs or the code files. This is ofcourse true for both build in and custom helpers. Does any1 share this pain? Does any1 have a solution for this?

  • jquery tabs with form help

    Hello, I am implementing jQuery tabs on mysite, one of the tabs holds a form and this is my problem, the form is loaded in via ajax as it is used multiple time throughout the site. My issue is that when the form is submitted the page leaves the tabbed area, whereas I need to stay within the tabbed system.   • Facebook Game Development - Which Programming languages?

But i am also comfortable in C++ and Java. I don't want to use Flash as the graphical frontend since i don't like it. So i guess i'll go with ASP.NET + Silverlight. What do you think?

(This is the the instance being improperly loaded.) If, however, Province is not loaded as a transparent proxy, the Province instance which is part of RegionalFees' RegionalFeesId property has null Code and Region values, although the Id value is set correctly. It looks to me like I have a problem in how I'm joining the Province class - since if it's lazy loaded the id is set from tblRegionalFees, and it gets loaded independently afterwards - but I haven't been able to figure out the solution.

  • Java webservice does not return all struct array

    Hi I wrote a webservice which runs correctly. In the webservice, there is a class which contains other classes' arrays and the webservice returns this class's instance. for example public class cls1 implements Serializable{ cls2[] cls2Arr; cls3[] cls3Arr; } I fill this arrays (cls2Arr and cls3Arr) correctly in service side. When I read this arrays from client, I see only last item of arrays. I checked on the service side before the webservice returns, and the cls1 instance and everything else looked good. What can be a reason ? Thx

  • Understanding a skeleton of jQuery plugin

    At a website, I found the following code to make a jQuery plugin: (function($){ // Our code here... })(jQuery); I don't understand how the code above works. What I understand is that the code executes immediately because the very last () in function(){}(). So the entire code says that is an anonymous function that is run immediately. But I don't understand why the wrapping needs to pass jQuery and that inside it needs $ to be passed. From my understanding, $ is an alias to jQuery, meaning practically the same. What is the meaning of $ and jQuery here? How does the overall code work as a jQuery plugin?

  • Recovery files from a damage VM?

    After search and search again, my VM still can't recovery. Does somebody know how to retrieve the files from the VM? My VM is XP, it can't boot up anymore after my forced quit. In the Mac OS 10.6.2, I try to "get info" the VM file, I can see it is still using 25G space. I try to mount it with VMDK mounter (just right click the VM file and chose open with), it can mount but nothing inside. I also try to use filesalvage to recovery the files after mounted the VM, it can recovery many many files, but the files name and some document become to be symbol. What can I do now? Pls help me, thanks!

  • Monitoring and terminating a hanged process in Linux

    Hi, I'm writing a script that runs many simultaneous processes that run the "dig" command. Once in a while (relatively rare, but happens in every run since I run dig many times) the dig command hangs with 0% CPU. Therefore, my script never terminates. I've created a monitor process for each dig command I run, which terminates it after a while, but I was wondering if there isn't a simpler and more efficient way to run a process with a pre-determined "expiration date", i.e. if the process runs more then X seconds it gets a signal that terminates it. Thanks!

  • is using Hosts for resolving a sql-server more performant?

    Hi, we have a legacy application which uses a access.mdb with hundreds of ODBC-connected tables on a sql-server. the access.mdb contains nothing else than these odbc-connections. Now we consider to use a virtual sql-servername for these odbc connections and resolve it in the local hosts-file with the ip-address of the real sql-server. Like this we can easy switch between a test-sql-database server and the the server for production in changing one single entry in the hosts. EVERYTHING works fine and now comes the question: Could it be that this is more performant because there is one single point on resolving the sql-server (name or ip-address)? Is there something like a network-cache / DNS-Cache? peace Ice

My name is Paula, I am an Online Marketing Specialist at Oracle University and this is my story. Having graduated from a technical profile college, it seemed almost normal to follow the same career path. But I said no. I wanted to try something else, so I took an Advertising Masters Program and I really became in love with this entire industry. Advertising and the new impact of the Internet through social networking is my current fascination. I knew I had to work to incorporate both my skills intro one dream job. I want to believe that I have come to work at Oracle as part of a great plan that life has for me. It’s not the most glamorous job in advertising or in the fashion industry, but it’s everything you need to start investing in your development and to build relationships. A normal day at work begins at 9.30 at our Oracle Office in Bucharest. After a short chit-chat, coffee and some conference calls, marketing gets to work! Some of the members of my team are working besides me but others are based all over Europe. This is extremely useful when coordinating the EMEA Marketing for Oracle University, because this way it’s easier to keep an eye on these various locations. Even though it’s a team play, you need to speak up and make your mark. I am the kind of person that never stands-by and waits to be given directions, I am curious and intuitive. But everything is up to you and it strongly depends on the type of personality that you have. I try to get involved in various activities, participate in Oracle Days Events, interact and meet all kinds of people. For those who are newly graduates or interns, Oracle has lots of trainings and webcasts you can attend to help you develop your career shape and to understand better the way the business works. You can also be awarded for ideas and setting the trends so that makes it worth it. What I like most about my job is the fact that I can come with ideas and bring them to life. For example Oracle University has a special seminar program called “Celebrity Seminars” where top industry speakers teach 1-day or 2-day condensed seminars. We thought of creating something exclusive and a video was the best idea. So my colleague and I became reporters for a day and interviewed this well-known speaker regarding his seminar. I think this is a good way to market this business. Live footage is a very good marketing tool so we are planning to use the video to target our online audiences via Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. This can even go in the newsletters that marketing sends regarding the Celebrity Seminars. This is what I meant when I said Oracle is a free spirited organization and you can surely find your place here among us. The best way to describe my job is WEB 2.0. The modern online approach comes to life while we are trying to sell our business. We need to be out there and we are responsible of spreading the buzz regarding our training offerings and our official courseware materials. There are so many new ways to interact with the target audience nowadays and I am so eager to discover the best online techniques!
