Javascript / Jquery Tree Travesal question

Suppose I have the following <ul> <li>Item 1</li> <li>Item 2 <ul> <li>Sub Item</li> </ul> </li> <li>Item 3</li> </ul> This list is auto-generated by some other code (so adding exclusive id's/class' is out of the question. Suppose I have some jquery code that states that if I mouseover an li, it gets a background color. However, if I mouseover the "Sub Item" list item, "Item 2" will be highlighted as well. How can I make it so that if the user mouses over "Sub Item" it only puts a background color on that and not on "Item 2" as well?

Using Googlemaps API to guide a user to a location (Android)

I'm having trouble trying to find a way to guide a user from one point on a map to another. I can add the locations I want to the overlay. I want the user to be able to pick a location and be guided through the streets to that location. Does anyone know how to do this, or is it even available in the api?

How do I send data from Java to Flash locally?

I have a website with a Java applet and a Flash application. I want the Java applet to send data to the Flash application locally. What's the best way to do this? The data I want to send are potentially large images (possibly up to 1MB in size). This means sending a base64 string to javascript and then to Flash would probably be too cumbersome. I don't want to have to contact external servers or anything; all of it should be possible locally and offline. Is there some easy way to just send this sort of data around? If I saved the file locally first, Flash wouldn't be able to access that, would it?

Using MATLAB's plotting features as an interactive part of a Fortran program

Although many of you will have a decent idea of what I'm aiming at, just from reading the title -- allow me a simple introduction still. I have a Fortran program - it consists of a program, some internal subroutines, 7 modules with its own procedures, and ... uhmm, that's it. Without going into much detail, for I don't think it's necessary at this point, what would be the easiest way to use MATLAB's plotting features (mainly plot(x,y) with some customizations) as an interactive part of my program ? For now I'm using some of my own custom plotting routines (based on HPGL and Calcomp's routines), but just as part of an exercise on my part, I'd like to see where this could go and how would it work (is it even possible what I'm suggesting?). Also, how much effort would it take on my part ? I know this subject has been rather extensively described in many "tutorials" on the net, but for some reason I have trouble finding the really simple yet illustrative introductory ones. So if anyone can post an example or two, simple ones, I'd be really grateful. In 9.10, any external usb devices such as an iPod or an external USB hard drive are automatically detected when plugged in while the OS is running. This doesn't seem to be happening anymore with Ubuntu 10.04. What should I change to restore that previous auto mounting behaviour?

does upgrade from Windows XP (32 bit) to Windows 7 (64 bit) re-formats the hard drive?

I understand I'll need to re-install all the applications, but will upgrading from Windows XP (32 bit) to Windows 7 (64 bit) automatically format my hard drive removing out all my stuff? Or I'll just need to install all the appls but my files (like pictures and documents) will remain on that hard drive? (Trying to figure out if I really need to get 500GB spare space anywhere to copy my data temporarily to.)
