• Should I learn WPF? Is it a good time investment? [closed]

  First I should say this is a copy of this question. I am a C# developer, not an expert, but still learning and growing. I want to learn WPF so I can creat application with nice UI. However I am afraid that, after I spend my time learning it, it is gonna be obselete, you know with windows 8 and metro application and stuff, so my question is: At this pint of time, would it be a good time investment to learn WPF? or will I be better off learning Metro?   I want to redirect any URL that is Https and hasn't start with "system_" to the same URL with http. for exapmle for this url : https://exsite.tld/some/thing/that/not/start/with/pattern to : http://exsite.tld/some/thing/that/not/start/with/pattern but this url: https://exsite.tld/system_aas3f4 Shouldn't redirect. I try: RedirectMatch ^/?((?!(system_)).*) http://exsite.tld/$1 but it won't work. I don't know what's the problem.

  My TP-LINK-8901 modem does not connect to internet with "always on" (automatic) connection. I have to put it in bridge mode and make a connection in Windows to connect to internet. Also, there is no configuration problem. What I did: Reset modem Update firmware Is there any way to solve the problem myself, e.g. through hardware or software? I can't have it repaired because the warranty already expired.

  I have postfix installed and running. The problem is only root can send email. other users failed to do. Here is the log for user www-data which is a web server application.   How we can create secure tunnels multicast with socat? Assume we have a list of ip address, CIDR network addresses that we want to create secure tunnel to them. I found this socat STDIO UDP4-DATAGRAM:224.1.0.1:6666,range=192.168.10.0/24 but I want a secure tunnel and different adds with net addrs I want to create script that give the IPs and net addresses and create secure tunnel ./myscript IP1 NetAdd1 IP2 NetAdd2 .... how can i send this parametersw to socat? • file downloaded via firefox and curl have different size

  When I download a file from this link by Firefox its size is 74580 B, But when I download it by curl with exactly all of header was sent by Firefox its size is 79891 B (I copied all header from Firefox and paste it in curl command). what is the problem? • File uploading in asp.net permission error (Access denied to path x)

  I'm trying to upload some image files in my asp.net web app. Server OS: Windows server 2003 and IIS 6 I granted write permission in IIS to root and destination folder and granted FullControl Access to this users IUSer_Mashinname, Asp.net user, network services,Everyone, and all other users to the web app root folder and upload destination folder, but there is "Access denied problem".

• CDI, Hibernate JSF on jetty

  I am trying to make Weld, hibernate, jsf combination work on Jetty. The best approach I found on internet was http://www.laliluna.de/articles/2011/01/12/jboss-weld-jpa-hibernate.html . It was a pain to clean up the dependencies, but I managed to go through that. Now it works for me except the initialization part of the EntityManagerStoreImpl. It seems the weld listener for jetty does not produce a ContainerInitialized event, so the init method which observes this event is never called. Could you tell me please what is the best way to bootstrap this class in the jetty environment? thanks!

• Java Executor: Small tasks or big ones?

  Consider one big task which could be broken into hundreds of small, independently-runnable tasks. To be more specific, each small task is to send a light network request and decide upon the answer received from the server. These small tasks are not expected to take longer than a second, and involve a few servers in total. I have in mind two approaches to implement this using the Executor framework, and I want to know which one's better and why. Create a few, say 5 to 10 tasks each involving doing a bunch of send and receives. Create a single task (Callable or Runnable) for each send & receive and schedule all of them (hundreds) to be run by the executor. I'm sorry if my question shows that I'm lazy to test these and see for myself what's better (at least performance-wise). My question, while looking after an answer to this specific case, has a more general aspect. In situations like these when you want to use an executor to do all the scheduling and other stuff, is it better to create lots of small tasks or to group those into a less number of bigger tasks?
