  • AutoCAD 11 and network file shares

    Small network of perhaps half a dozen engineers, currently working on local copies of AutoCAD project files, which are then copied back up to file server (2008 Standard, 1-2 year old Dell server hardware, RAID 5 SAS disks (10k? not positive)) at end of day. To me, this sounds horribly inefficient and error-prone, however, I've been told that "AutoCAD and network files = bad idea" and this is gospel. The network is currently 10/100 (perhaps this is the reason for the "gospel") but all the workstations are within 2 years old and have GbE NICs so an upgrade of the core switch is long overdue. However, I know certain applications don't like network access, at all, and any sign of latency or disruption brings the whole thing crashing down. Anyone care to chime in?

  • Load multiple commands to execute in AutoCAD command

    I am trying to load the .arx file for a particular program, once the User clicks on the customized tab in AUtoCAD. Requirements are: 1.When User Clicks on the customized tab, it loads the .arx 2.Runs the program 3.Unload the .arx file. I achieved Point 2 by acedRegCmds-(); I tried getting point 1 and 3 working, by using acedArxLoad(_T("C:\Example\Example.arx")); command, but it did not work. Any help with the same would be highly appreciated Also just curious, should loading multiple commands in LISP work for this?

    Using ObjectARX (C++) for AutoCAD 2010, can AutoCAD entities be serialized? We need to save the serialized entity in a field in a database (Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc., not AcDbDatabase). It'OK if you show me how to save them in disk, something like this: AcDbEntity * entity; ... std::ofstream ofs("c:\\filename.fil", std::ios::binary); ofs.write((char *)(entity), sizeof(entity)); ofs.close(); Thanks

  • Create Linework/Geometry Using Text Style in AutoCAD

    I'm working in AutoCAD using the ObjectARX .Net API. Is there a way to either create text using lines/curves/polylines, or explode an existing text object into lines/ect? Prefereable I would like to be able to generate linework based on an exsiting AutoCAD text style. Edit: I was able to find the source for the TxtExp command here . However its in AutoCADs own Lisp language, and I can't make heads or tails of it.

  • handle 50-100 million rectangle in AutoCAD

    I have huge problem when I try to get large array. For example, I have something like 10000x10000 or 5000x5000 rectangles. It is almost impossible to do anything because the screen just got frozen up. It is impossible to contain so many objects in one array. So I had 100x100 rectangle array as xref then array the xref again. It ate up about 12GB RAM. I guess this is the problem. Can anyone give me any suggestions can achieve the same structure but without freezing the computer?

  • Importing AutoCAD/Solidworks drawings/objects into winforms?

    Has anybody done anything like that? I need to import 3d objects, done in either AutoCAD or Solidworks, and draw them into a windows form. I only need the object to be viewed in 3D and moved around - no manipulation required. I am assuming I will need 2 libraries at least, one for a very simple 3D engine, and one to actually get what I need from the CAD/SW files. Autodesk has a SDK available for developing AutoCAD plugins using .NET, but I am not sure if you can use it the other way around - loading files into the .NET app. Any help, links, and ideas are appreciated.

  • Autocad 2014 - Positioning electrical objects for plans (icons and symbols, not actual objects)

    I am using Autocad to design my home. I am at a phase where I want to set the location for the switches, lighting fixtures, power sockets, communication sockets etc. I am thinking of something like this http://www.the-house-plans-guide.com/electrical-blueprint-symbols.html. I am not interested in placing specific lighting fixtures or rendering them, just putting the symbol and distances for the symbol. I can use Autocad Electrical, but that's a GIANT overshoot.     I am trying 3 years now installing autocad,3ds max and revit architecture on ubuntu with the help of wine!Every year i am very optimistic cause i see the new wine versions already improved.So, now i am starting again in a clean ubuntu install to install the autocad 2013 with the wine version wine1.4.I am not trying to have an answer only for me but i want all this ubuntu community try for this and finally we can achieve that!The winetricks have already net framework 4 to install which is the reason i have not already ran in the pas autocad.So, i would like to remove completely my windows 7 partition from my pc and go on a linux machine without loosing the powerfull architectural programms.I know all about blender and staff so i just want you to help find a solution on that because i know there is a solution!Maybe i will have to learn all the c++ or python etc staff.But i am sure that a solution can come with the help of all of us!Any suggestion about this problem will be very nice and helpfull.     I'm looking for the best AutoCAD 2010 alternative for Ubuntu. Wine's support for the 2010 version isn't polished so I'm looking for Linux based similar programs. I know that this can be subjective so I'd like to know what's the best Ubuntu alternative which has the most similar, and significant features as that of AutoCAD 2010? I'm not familiar with the program because I'm researching this for my sister who is studying Aeronautical Engineering. Any help is appreciated. I'm using 12.04 64-bit on my ThinkPad R61i with 3.8GB memory and 160GB hard drive.

  • A font like RomanS in appearance but with support for more characters (Autocad)?

    In a Autocad 2010 installation, the standard font used is RomanS. That font is so limited on characters, so when I use "text" command I cannot add "³" on text of cubic meters measures (a "?" is displayed instead of the "³" character - see isolated text on figure below and Font characters Latin Supplement range). When I use a dimension command, like multileader, Autocad "corrects" that issue using another font that support that missing character, resulting on an awful mixture (see text on multileader below - on multileader text properties, we can see 3m{\fArial|b0|i0|c0|p34;³}). I can easily change that font with another, like Verdana, Times New Roman... that have more characters than RomanS font, but I would like to use an alternative font more like RomanS in appearance. Any help?

  • installing and configuring Autodesk Suite for multiple users on a domain

    I was wondering if anyone has had any success installing Any/All of the Autodesk Suite (autocad, revit,inventor,3dsmax) and has set them up so that multiple users can log on to the domain without having issues with the applications trying to run from C:\users\usera\appdata...... I am trying to prevent the autocad initial setup using a profile (within autocad) but this didnt work either. I am using autodesk 2010. Thanks

    I need to create a simple app which can display geometries from Oracle Spatial in C#. These geometries are exported from AutoCAD Map 3D 2010 to Oracle Spatial. I need to pan, zoom, manage layers of these objects, events (like right click to popup a contextual menu, potentially different for every object), creating/deleting points (maybe also other polygons): a sort of simple AutoCAD interface. Should I look for an AutoCAD OEM license? Is there a drawing framework which can handle this or do I need to create my own?

The first CSC command line does not have an /resource options, the second has two /resource options on the command line.   • COM Interop between 32 bit and 64 bit applications

    I have a .NET windows forms application compiled as x84 – it needs to be compiled as x84 because it references 3rd party DLLs which are 32 bit. The application uses COM interop to automate Office applications and also AutoCAD. My question is: will my COM interop code work okay on a 64 bit operating system against the 64 bit versions of Office and AutoCAD? I’m going to try this out but I wondered whether someone knew of any problems?

  • Converting a DWG/DXF to CSV or Excel

    I'm using ZWcad and i need to get the coordinates of hundreds of blocks into a excel sheet or .CSV file so i can import that into the GPS hardware. I know there are plenty of tools for autocad, i probably can even write one myself but as far as ZWcad goes i seem to be out of options. However ZWcad saves to DWG too, and exports to all the other familiar cad extensions. So i was wondering if i would just save the blocks i need to export to a certain file there might be a tool/program to convert that directly into .CSV.

    Basically I don't know from where to start, I need to add a line script for my application that is not so complicated, just to execute pre-defined commands, for instance: command New Invoice -- create new invoice command customer profile -- open customer form where cust id = CustID command run End-Of-Day - run the end of day process command scr 1020 -- open form id = 1020 How can I start?
